sounds like a nice little light.

I mean really, for the size and the bang for the buck, it's hard not to have one of these little suckers clipped to a pocket or on a keychain.

hell, it's a search light that runs off a AAA battery :)

Great choice!

I would have gone with the ITP, but I got the L0D for that price.

I admit I am a member over on the candlepowerforums-- a pretty nerdy flashlight forum. I've only got a few posts there though haha so I'm not a total lost case.

I would strongly recommend taking a look at the Quark series by 4sevens if anyone is interested in a good light. I've got a few of them in a couple different sizes. The one I take to work is the Quark 123^2 R5, about 4" long and it pushes out 230 lumens on high (which is really freaking bright), and 0.2 lumens on low (nice moonlight mode). It is made out of titanium too, which is 100% bad a**. http://www.4sevens.com

Yeah, at the cost of the LED lifetime. You don't know what voltage range those things are rated for. And don't pretend like you do.

No doubt.

Ive had my Stinger LED for like 2 years now. Its been beat to hell 100 times over, and it still puts out 180 lumens of blinding white light. And its rechargeable. I have the charger wired into my truck, that way I always have light on hand.

I will never go back to cheap flashlights. Its $150 but I sware up and down by this flashlight. It will be the last one you buy and includes warranty. It is super bright serially, and also perfectly round and focused that spreads light evenly. Hi, med, low and strobe.. I love my streamlight. Buy one!

As of now all I have on my key chain is a laser pointer. I have had no use for it other then bother people with it.
LMAO @ "search light that runs off a AAA battery". Will it run off or rechargeable type AAA?

It will indeed run off a rechargeable AAA.

Honestly though, with the low usage of a keychain light I would recommend splurging and picking up some Energizer Lithium Ultra batteries. You won't ever have leaking issue, self discharging, or low capacity.

With normal keychain usage(maybe 10~30 seconds at a time) that one battery will probably last you 6 months.

*Note* that the Lithiums has a rated 10 year shelf life. So throw them in the draw or in your car and forget them until you need them.

Thats my flashlight right there. Love it.

Seriously, worth it. The light is rechargeable without removing the battery, you just click it onto the charger. Plus, the charger piggy back charges and maintains a spare battery if you ever run the one in the light dry. On high a full charge will run for 6 hours continuously, and almost twice that on low. That $150 doesnt just get you a light either, you get the light, 2 batteries, and a charger. And that is retail, I got my setup for just over $100.

To give you an idea of how bright this light is, Ive driven in pitch black, with no headlights, holding my light out the window. It is brighter, and throws light farther then the headlights on my S13. At 60 mph I really did not feel the need for more light.

Plus it has a no questions warranty. If it stops working, send it in, and they send it back fixed, no questions asked. That being said, Ive dropped mine in every automotive fluid conceivable, tossed it onto concrete numerous times, I've even dropped it from as high as 15 feet onto solid concrete with no more than a fresh scratch. And because its LED, you'll never replace the bulb.

Maybe I'm looking up the wrong model from Stinger, but if this light is brighter then your headlights you seriously need to remove the yellowing from your lens and/or change your bulbs out.

In conjunction with this ^ comment, would you all mind posting up model numbers if you haven't already done so? I could probably use a decent flashlight in the near future, and it would be nice to start pricing them out. Thanks!

Honestly, if you want a light that will always be with you I highly recommend the ITP that was posted on page one.

It is brighter then a 3d Incandescent MagLite and yet it fits on your keyring!

Yeah, I'm probably looking for two. I was thinking about the keyring light from the OP, but it would be nice to have a larger light as well. That is the one I'm struggling on selecting...

I have a Streamlight Stinger LED.

I urge you to check out the stinger series. Its big enough to be plenty powerful, while not being so small that it gets lost. I like it at work, because its just big enough to fit in my back pocket comfortably without sticking out too much. At any given time, there are 4 or 5 streamlights moving around my shop.

Don't get the L01 that james posted. The ITP is a little(5 lumens) brighter and yet only cost $25.

I thought so.

If you are saying that that is as bright as your headlights you really need to clean your lens and possibly change the bulbs(they get dimmer over time).

That light is good for ~180 lumens. Your headlights are either 700 lumens(H6054) or 1460/1700(H1/9005)

I kinda wish I knew about the ITP before I got the Fenix...ah well, it's a nice, well built light.

is the ITP an aluminum body? It looks like it but I could get good specs...though I think it had a MIL number...so maybe it's mil spec aluminum.

Honestly, when you're looking at a light go to the candlepower forum and search for it. Just read for like 15~30 minutes before you commit to the light. This will bring up a ton of reviews and comparisons so that you can properly weigh your options.

Yeah, I was too when I stumbled on it a couple years ago.

Be VERY careful though. If you read the right threads you will seriously get hooked.

There is just something about having a flashlight in your hand that is the size of a maglite, but it lights up the night like the headlights on a car!

Thank you Im glad someone is with me. I have dropped this myself a million times and is the most durable 1 I will ever own. Seriously seriously worth it. It is also really that bright. I think it could outshine or be equal to my HIDs

I had a problem with mine not turning on, got it fixed for free including a clean new lens, and got it back within a week. Thanks streamlight..

So once again, screw expensive heavy batteries that die in 2 weeks, screw incondescent bulbs that arent even that bright, and screw buying a new flashlight every couple months. Streamlight is the shizzz!!

Are you looking directly at the light when you say that it's that bright? Because that's not how you tell how bright something is.

This light is about 180 lumens. If the HIDs you are comparing this to are in a car they are probably 35w each. That typically means they have ~3500 lumens of output EACH! So I am very confused about what you're saying.

Dude, got get pissy.

I am not saying there is anything wrong with your light. Stinger makes GREAT products that are extremely durable.

I am simply saying that your comparison to your headlights is a little off.

You're being unecsary.

But PMQ, Ian might have a point although headlights create higher lumens output than flashlights...
Straight from CandlePower Forum:
Unicorn wrote:I believe that many (if not most) of the spotlights mounted on police cars are about 800 lumens, and a little over 100,000 candlepower. A measurement of lumens by itself is almost worthless, as bad as just candlepower. A 60 lightbulb produces 800 lumens, but it's not focused, a Surefire 6P makes 65 lumens, but is focused fairly tight so is a brighter light. You can't compare different manufacturs light by just the lumen rating since how it is focused will make a large difference. Even from the same maker things could vary. The Turboheads from Surefire for example. The 9P and the 9PT were both 105 lumens, but the turbohead was more tightly focused, and therefore the hotspot was brighter, but a little smaller.
In Ian's case I think the poor optics on his older S13 are allowing his streamlight to outshine the high lumens head light bulb.

I am very familiar with candela, lumens, and lux.

The problem is that he said the Stinger lit up the road better then the headlights.

The stinger, to be brighter, would have to be much more tightly focused. This would put a bright spot on the road.

The headlights might not be as bright as the stinger in that one spot, but they do a much better job of lighting the entire area on the road.

If Ian meant that it's brighter in that one spot, then yes, I agree with him.

When it comes to driving by a light though, you need lots and lots of lumens to diffuse over the entire road surface infront of the car.

Im not very fimiliar wwith the measurements of lumens so I cant tell you. But It looks like it could very well match the brightness of my headlights, just maybe alittle more focused. Im not measuring photons or anything but if you were to look at it directly, it would definantly burn.. trust me I no lol. Its also comparable to a police spotlight. I think the spotlight might overcome the streamlight but its not far behind.

And your not ganna see me tape 2 streamlights to my hood to act as headlights.

I can just say its f***ing bright and I would pay 150 any day. I need pics..
