Valentine 1 is def good.But.... its $500

Don't have $500 to spend on a radar. And if I did, it wouldn't be a on dash, stick on radar. It would def be a installed radar system.

I've been doing some research on them and this is the cheapest and best radar I could find.

Check out this ratings chart:http://www.007radardetectors.com/test.htm

The only difference between the 695 and the 690 is the multi color display a headphone jack and illuminated buttons. They both have the same internals.I'm not paying $40 extra for that crap.

I'm sure there's gonna be a whole bunch of nice camera's and people who know how to use them.

I'll have to figure out if i'm gonna drive all the way across the FL to meet up with you guys or meet in ATL. it's like 4 hours out of my way to meet before we all leave FL. I know i'll be coming and my buddy mark with his swap will be there too....just not sure if he's gonna bring the 25 swapped 240 or the 26 swapped 240! LOL

As I posted in the other thread from boosted98GST.. I'm sincerely hoping this does not affect us. also, need to email them about putting our group down on the calendar..
March14, 2010: The rock slide on US 129 is located between the Dragon and Happy Valley Road/Foothills Parkway. Removal is scheduled to take several weeks. The road will likely be blocked completely at times, but for now there is one lane open with flaggers. There is no guarantee the one-lane will remain open and as of today we know of no way to check ahead. The only alternatives are the Cherohala Skyway which got more snow this morning and US 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains. Remember it’s a long way to backtrack if the road is completely closed.Photo courtesy of Chris Pace
via http://tailofthedragon.com/news.html

I don't think this will drag out till Sept.I wouldn't worry about it.

Sickness- have you received any other bids from hotels?Which hotel put in the 1st bid?

When I can get some time I'm gonna make a couple calls and see what I can get.

About 38 people so far?

Then we can register our meet on the TOTD site. Once we get a couple different quotes.

As per the TOTD facebook post 3 min ago:

"As of right now Sept 1st is going to be the ESTIMATED opening date. The contract for clearing the slide will be awarded on Monday 3/29, at that time a morea accurate opening date will be posted. TNDOT does say that it should take several months to clear the slide."

Hopefully this date can be held or moved up!!!But.... on the brighter side of things..... this may be a good thing for us.

If we book our hotels NOW, maybe we can get some dirt cheap rates, since its not a definite date. They usually only take your info and give you a rate. There shouldn't be any charges till Check out.

I have no idea what the damage is out there, but I would assume that they could make the opening date of Sept 1st.

What do you guys think???

well, i do have a pretty serious question to ask...how often to these rock slides occur...I have to be COMPLETELY honest with you guys and say that this has made me somewhat paranoid about even drivng that road with any car let alone my pride and joy. whos to say that this particular slide was just a tiny one and a much larger one could be right around the corner...thats what scares me if you want to know the truth.

Things are looking a bit better for us.Below is a posting from Dealsgap.com

I'm also working on something to make this trip a bit more organized and more fun.

So when I post it up reply and throw some ideas at it.!!!!

"Wednesday March 24

WARNING FALSE INFORMATION BEING PUT OUT BY TDOT AND BEING REPORTED ON OTHER WEB SITES. Ok folks TDOT has confirmed that 1 Sep is NOT I say again NOT the expected reopen date for The Dragon. There twitter page is linked directly to there electronic message system for the highway. They have to put a date on it for the system to work so they just picked that one. I talked with them and they do not have a date. The contract will be awarded on Monday and that is when the Officale time schedual will be set. Again, 1 Sep is misinformation. I will post up the real info as soon as TDOT calls me."

http://picasaweb.google.com/lh...tlink

This person who I spoke to wasn't the most knowledgeable person and A bit on the slow side..

She said that there would be NO discount available.

I'm gonna call Fontana Village Mon morning.Hopefully we can get something good from them.I'm gonna ask about the following rooms:

Lodge RoomsDeluxe Room - (1 King or 2 Queens)Fireplace Room - (1 King and

Cabins The Laurels - 2 Bedroom (1 queen & 2 twins)The Hemlock - 2 Bedroom (1 queen & 2 twins)

Thanks for the help SIL240, I know i havent payed much attention to this thread, and i must apologize. I've been very busy lately. I sold my DD RX7 and got a 92 miata a couple of days ago. between that, work & school its been hectic.

I did get word that my RB head and block were mated on friday, so hopefully more good news will come soon. Waiting on a crank collar from rawbrokerage and then we can put the pump on.

They are pretty common in the smokey moutain area but only really happen in the spring time and are not usually this big. If you guys do not remember back in the late 80's 30 something people were killed on a tourest bus that was smashed by a rock slide , which then caught fire. There is still a area on the highway that marks the spot and list the name of people who died. Either way that is prolly one in a million, they do have rock slides every spring, but not do this leval.

John - No problemWhat hotel gave you that quote before? When you have a min give me a call anytime after 4:30We can go over this whole thing and organize it.

S14-NEO - I wouldn't worry about Rock Slides. From what I've read they occur from heavy rains and snow.Which when we are going it not the peak of their rain fall, and should not be snowing.

More Rock Slide Clean up news:Today the bidding is going on for the clean up company.

July 31 is the latest it will be done.It is expected to be done before, so we'll be plenty clear.

But that means everyone will be pushing there trip/meet back. So we gotta get this squared away.

The following are based upon group of ~40, Sept 3-6.

Checkout this thread!!!

Click on the HO-tell links and LMK which hotel you are interested inI'm more partial to Fontana Village. It looks like a nicer hotel and it's only a couple $ more.

Fixed the linkhttp://forums.nicoclub.com/zer...-2010

I want to get this Group Rate setup, so that everyone can just call up and book their own room at these discounted rates.
