Hello everyone,

I have a question. If I'm going to swap out engines in my Q45, what should I go with?

Should I twin turbo a VQ from a G35/37, or a 2JZ? I can easily obtain one or the other from Pick-A-Part, and then have the bottom end rebuilt to support power. The challenges I can foresee would be to have as much of the F50 Q45 electronics still work, like the heat/ac, radio, navigation, etc.

I could also purchase another VK45DE and replace it. Just trying to come up with a plan that will be a little more exciting than just fixing/replacing.

All the best,
~HollywoodJackson~

Honestly, anything is possible depending on how big your excitement budget is.

Apart from the handful of supercharged ones, I haven't seen any F50s getting any powerplant tweaks. Even on the M45 side, Y34s barely get any attention, but the Y50 platform in general (both M45 and M35) has had a few exciting swaps.
  1. You might have heard of Chris Fosberg's drift missile.
  2. I have heard there is an LS swapped M, but no details have been forthcoming
  3. I know there is a 2JZ swapped one. It was running but very little followup - m45-with-a-nice-swap-t570885.html
  4. Then there is this VK56DE project - titan-vk56de-swap-in-progress-06-infini ... 14391.html
  5. Someone else is attempting to swap in the M56 drivetrain. VK56VD - topic620322.html
  6. Let's throw in the M35 that was converted to an M45. Basically a shell transfer - the-frankenstine-build-t604245.html
What I assume is that using a Nissan powertplant makes it easier to incorporate the electronics.
What I read is that using a V8 car takes better to a V8 engine swap as all it takes to run properly is redoing the ECU files as the plugs fit right on. I infer that it would be the same for a V6 project
What I know for a fact is that the Y34 and F50 had way more spacious engine bays. That should have many advantages.
