My idea on how to teach my fiancee seems to be working. If only I can get her to try again.
It's kindof silly.the Plan:A)get her to try againB)put her in the driver's seat, car off, and have her push the clutch in and out a few times. The clutch in my Civic DX is pretty stiff and one problem we had was when she put it in gear and tried to drive it, she didn't have the clutch in all the way. She thought it was like the gas where you don't keep it pressed in all the way. So have her push it in and out to have her get a feel for it.C)Put in the clutch (she did get that part) and turn the car on. Put car in neutral, let out clutch. Have her rev the engine to a specific RPM. First 1500, then 2000, then 3000. Show her how to maintain a steady RPM.D)Car in neutral, do the clutch thing again, but this time with emphasis on how to let it up SLOWLY, until she gets it right.E)Put it all together. Have her pull it out in first. Give her the right launch RPM (~2000 or so on my Civic) and pray.
Hopefully it all goes better than how I learned clutch. I was in the alleyway. Dad pulled the car out into the alley, and we switched. Unfortunately he had the wheels ****ed over ALL THE WAY right. I popped the clutch and the thing shotgunned. Right into the gas meter. Now I can say I caused the fire department to come to my home.
But I am glad I stuck with it instead of curling up into the safety of his auto CRV. Like my uncle said, if you can drive a stick, you can learn to drive anything that moves.
