WHen I met the woman who is now my fiance she was already driving a stick shift. It just made me like her even more, I always thought it was sexy when she drove my 240.

well parking has nothing to do with driving a stick..it just has to do with driving period! :D

but hey maybe some girls just arent good at parking! but she might be good at driving a stick...or maybe she is a fast learner...

u just have to try... one day :D

You guys think you had it bad, i had it pretty bad too, me and my father tried to teach my mother how to drive our Accord 5 spd, i dont even remember how many times she stalled it and missed a gear, at the time she had threatened to ground me because she was more than duble my age and i knew how to drive a stick and she couldn't, but out teaching paid off she's good now except she needs to learn WHERE to shift. Practice helps a lot.

I taught my girlfriend at the time (my wife now) to drive stick on an old jeep with a worn clutch and a broken throwout bearing. She picked it up pretty quickly. She will drive my 5spd, but only if she has to.

I tried to teach my brother (15) to drive stick last month...he turned the key, and nothing happend, so I told him he had to push the clutch in to start it. He looked down at the pedals and said "clutch....clutch....clutch....then mashed the gas and turned the key....maybe next year

Lol Icepik240, my ssiter did the same exact thing, told he to push the clutch and she pushed the gas and tried it, then she pushed the brake. lol well finally after trial and error she finally got it, almsot drove off tho becasue she claimed she had the car in neutral but it was in 1st so i ahd to pull the brake. so yea maybe next year for her also.

yea at first i thought "no way, it's so confusing" coz i never even drove before, but then i thought to myself that it'd be so cool if i can drive a stick and not be a typical girl. so there i go, learned it.!!!

maybe u should motivate her more, tell her how cool it is for a chick to drive a stick, so men wont look down on them...etc..

Very true. My wife's philosophy with parallel parking hand the car keys to the valet. (She can do it, but hates it). I find it very easy.

i did try to teach my girl in a parking lot with my little 86 mazda 626 and i think we ran more with the car off then the car on.and in a few days she still didnt want to switch to second gear she said she got to confused after the first.we kept on it for few weeks and she got better but still struggles a little.my advise to anyone is to use a beat up car cuz if its your precious 240 that we all love...you can bend over and kiss ur *** goodbye

I taught my ex girlfriend how to drive a standard on my old 98 eclipse GSX. You just have to be really patinet. Pretend you are trying to get with her for the first time. Seriously. Girls are more emotional so they kinda have to feel their way though learning this type of stuff. Say "ok let the clutch out slowly and feel the car move.... good now give it a little gas to counteract it wanting to stall. " Speak sofly and encourage her a lot. She will get it.

My idea on how to teach my fiancee seems to be working. If only I can get her to try again.

It's kindof silly.the Plan:A)get her to try againB)put her in the driver's seat, car off, and have her push the clutch in and out a few times. The clutch in my Civic DX is pretty stiff and one problem we had was when she put it in gear and tried to drive it, she didn't have the clutch in all the way. She thought it was like the gas where you don't keep it pressed in all the way. So have her push it in and out to have her get a feel for it.C)Put in the clutch (she did get that part) and turn the car on. Put car in neutral, let out clutch. Have her rev the engine to a specific RPM. First 1500, then 2000, then 3000. Show her how to maintain a steady RPM.D)Car in neutral, do the clutch thing again, but this time with emphasis on how to let it up SLOWLY, until she gets it right.E)Put it all together. Have her pull it out in first. Give her the right launch RPM (~2000 or so on my Civic) and pray.

Hopefully it all goes better than how I learned clutch. I was in the alleyway. Dad pulled the car out into the alley, and we switched. Unfortunately he had the wheels ****ed over ALL THE WAY right. I popped the clutch and the thing shotgunned. Right into the gas meter. Now I can say I caused the fire department to come to my home.

But I am glad I stuck with it instead of curling up into the safety of his auto CRV. Like my uncle said, if you can drive a stick, you can learn to drive anything that moves.

I agree these are some funy stories. I dont think id ever try and teacha nyone in an alley way. Last night my g/f finally got the hang of it somewhat. She shifts rough, but we dotn stall, and she shifts at a consistant RPM(4500) in our Honda Accord until she gets to 4th gear going into 5th, for some reason she is "afraid" of the "speed" i guess so she ****s around 3400. O wel ill give her a few mroe days and shell ahve ti down. Hopefully.

You know, I kinda agree with when the others said to be patient and calm and guide them through it..I know I'd resent someone for just screaming and yelling at me when I have no I dea as to whats going on

the funny part is how us guys always give our g/f's the $hitty transmission or clutch that is already going out to learn on. haha,

I just dated a girl that drives a 240 (95 base model) and she got it just like 5 months ago and she sucks *** at driving. I mean, she's not THAT bad, but everytime she shifts she can't seem to do it NICELY its always gotta be slammed in second and then pops the clutch out real quick, although she can get it out of first (which is more than most girls) i just can't handle all the jerky driving...it drives me insane.

Yes same here, jerky driving makes me want to open the door and ROLL OUT OF THE CAR, and I dont think any of us are actually yelling at our g/f, just tryn to teach them and being stern about it.

you guys are dead on.. when i first learned how to drive, my mom would yell at me for every little thing: slow down, use your blinkers! hurry up!! STOP!! wait.. ok go, turn, STOP! it drove me nuts! at first, i would get kinda loud while teaching her, but then id remember how much i hated it and calmed down. after that my girl felt more comfortable and did a whole lot better. i guess its just about being patient and gentle with them. and they'll reward you for that ;)

Also don't forget that they are probliby terrifide of tearing up your baby. Most of them know how mutch we love our cars... and if they really love us then they will be very scared to actuially drive the car.

That is true in most cases, but not in our 07 Hodna Accord, could care less about it. But everything else is right on the money

The only manual I'd teach a girl on is my 12-speed Huffy. 'Unsprung ACT 6-puc' and 'learning' just don't belong in the same sentance... :)

I admit I myself am a little rough with my shifting. That and the 91 Civic DX has a real rough clutch (think the clutch springs are designed abit stiff, not sure)

Funniest time when I was learning to drive was I was still 15, and driving my parent's 97 CRV. We were heading back home, and I was on a major thoroughfare in town. I nearly missed my right turn onto my home street. Nearly. Right at the last minute I slammed the brakes and cut the right turn at about 20-25mph. Doesn't sound that fast, but it feels fast in that tall SUV.

Now here is the kicker. BOTH parents were in the car. Man I felt the backlash from that. They quickly pointed out that if I miss the home street I can take the back way in only one block down. oops.

When the **** do I get my 240Mark
