It lives!

Started it up tonight and let it go through one full heat cycle, then shut down and let it cool off.

Tomorrow I'll warm it up again and drive it!

I was quite please with how quickly it fired. Especially when I remembered to reconnect the coil wire. After that it took about 2 cranks and VRRROOOM....

Ok, I'll post more tomorrow sometime.

First off, I hate bleeding a 240 cooling system. OMG it can take forever!!!

Secondly, I have a couple things I found out on initial test drive.

1. An engine that's been lightened substantially (internals and flywheel) has virtually NO engine braking! Man, I went into a turn with a somewhat spirited momentum and lifted the throttle to slow down. Guess what...I didn't slow down! Brake upgrades will likely be soon to come.

2. Running twin 248 cams and 8.8:1 CR really sucks down low with the swirl control disconnected. Man, what a pig under 3k rpm! I'll reconnect that and see how she does later.

That's all for now.

I crank it until it starts to pop a little under load, at that low of an rpm it won't hurt anything. Then I back it off till she doesn't crackle anymore...lol. Honestly, I'd up it 5* and see if you have any problems.

That's exactly what I did this afternoon. I moved it about 5* and she straightened right up.

We'll see how it does tomorrow on about 10psi.

Board from kybridKA with multiple map storage and on-board switching. At any given time, I can run two maps, toggled via clutch-mounted switch. The board can store up to 4 maps at once.

As it stands now, I have the obvious base map and the "switch" map is a launch map, having very retarded timing and a 4k rpm rev limit. This makes for launch control (makes a little boost sitting on the line @ WOT...2-step) and flatshift.

Currently, I'm running the old 370 injectors for ease of tuning and diagnosing. I don't believe in adding tons of new setups to a brand new engine that's never been started before. It just makes things tough if you have problems.

However, next week, I'll be installing the STI injectors (535cc?) and adjustable FPR. The next week should be dyno week, but we'll see how work goes. Sometimes I have work projects pop up that just get in the way of blowing money on expensive hobbies.

I saw your post about it and later I'll do a full writeup on it, as well as my input on the SAFC2 (which I believe many people don't use to it's fullest potential).

One little thing that bugs me about this motor.

Cold start noise.

Everyone with whom I've spoken told me it would give a little piston slap upon cold starts, but it would go away once it warmed up.

Well, for some reason, in the back of my mind I decided "not mine." Unfortunately, my engine didn't listen to what my mind had planned. When I start it up cold, it sounds like a little diesel tractor for a while until it warms up.

I really hate that! But that's ok.

Oh, one other thing I'm bummed about -my FelPro rear main seal is leaking. GRRRRRR....

I have a new Nissan rear main ready to pop in there, but I'm seriously considering paying someone to do it. I have work all week and losing a day of work is more expensive than having someone replace the seal for me.

Anyhow, that's all for now.

Oh, and I cranked it up to about 10psi today...pretty fun!

Ok, now that all that ignitor chip garbage is over with, I plan on doing some tuning next week.

My chip burner should be here tomorrow, and I wrote a new tune for the 520cc injectors. I plan on working my way up to about 15psi this coming Monday. We'll see how she feels then.

After that, I'll stop and hit the dyno in a couple weeks or so for a full tuning session, working up to the 400whp mark.

Glad to hear all is well, how long did it take you to build oil pressure prior to start up?

Not too terribly long. Maybe 15 seconds of cranking?

Wow man those are really nice pictures and you really inspired me to do a KA.

Anyways, I was wondering... I have a 90 240, and a 95 motor... besides the ECu and wiring harness, can I use that wiring box thats in the 90?

And, you know that sensor thats connected to teh p/s line? If im eliminating the p/s can i just snip snip that wire?

Not sure about the fuse box issue, but I know you can snip the P/S sensor wire.

Thanks for the compliments. Feel free to hit me up anytime if you have questions or need info on your build.

Thanks a lot. Cause I def. did a snip snip by accident.

Whenever you dropped in your motor, you connected the transmission I'm assuming. Well in that case, when you connected the transmission back, was that part that spins freely from the driveshaft disconnected?

If you have aim my sn is Slos13drftr.

Other than that, I think that's all my questions... and there isnt 2 ECU's is it?

When I did the swap, I pulled the engine and trans out together, still connected. Then, I separated themon the garage floor, and bolted the trans to the new engine, and slid it all back in the car.

I disconnected the driveshaft at the carrier bearing (round rubber section about 10" back from the transmission) and let the rear section of the shaft rest on the ground (still connected to the differential). The front section just pulls right out of the transmission with ease.

One ECU my friend.

Cheers!

Ok, here's the final photo of the completed swap.

Also, click the links for some silly crappy shortclips as proof it lives. You can hear a little light compressor surge in the first clip. Nothing to worry about, though. It's just non-load surge.

And the 2-step workin'...

I'll try to get a few short launch clips this week. My camera only does like 30sec. clips (digital photo cam), and the quality isn't that great, but we'll see how it goes.

I'll dial up the 2-step to make about 6-7psi off the line and see how it does.

It's integrated into my daughterboard as part of a multiple map storage unit.

Additionally, it's fully programmable so I can make however much boost I want off the line.

Does the PLMS daughterboard work with that 2-step?

What's it take to get it working?

how difficult was it to learn how to use? ranging from 1-10, 10 being the maximum difficult.
