Postponed! Prolly be another couple or three weeks. Gotta tie up some "other" projects (house and work stuff) so I can focus on this car properly. I was going to go ahead and push through, but I started feeling much anxiety about it...and that's no way to do a project at all.

As much as I can't wait to see the finished product, I would rather see it done right and last.

Haha, this is the exact opposite of what I am doing with the SAFC I keep emailing you for help with. That's funny.

Well, today I started the tear-down. Took me 2 1/2 hrs to get the engine/trans ready to hoist out. I'll be doing those tomorrow morning, then cleaning up that mess of an engine bay. Wednesday, the new mill goes in and she fires up.

I'll keep ya'll posted!

Spent about another hour and a half getting some wires and exhaust components loose and now she's out!

Today will be spent cleaning up that nasty mess of an engine bay and cleaning/transferring parts from one engine to the other.

Some pics!

WHAT A MESS!!! It's a wiring/vacuum abomination if I ever saw one!

To delete this little canister or not...I cannot decide for the life of me!

And here she is, in all her 200k mile glory! You must admit, she's pretty dry for a 200k motor. Most 100k motors are soaked in oil.

Turbo still lookin' good after about a year's beatin'. Aparently, sucking oil through from the PCV system doesn't bother it much!

Man, you've got some serious cleaning to do. 200K is a milestone, especially under boost for the last year. Coorect me if I'm wrong, but the current motor is still running well?

Actually, it's been boosted for 2 years.

Yes, the engine runs like a champ, but it smokes on startup, decel, accel and especially under boost (like a mosquito fogger under boost).

Other than being worn out, it's perfect! LOL

Ok, I'm off to go clean stuff.

That's monkey grass. It's only around the flower bed, which is not shown in the photos. That comment made me laugh pretty good!

Engine bay got a nice little facelift today. No need for paint, just some dishwashing liquid, a bucket, a sponge and a water hose. It's so much more gentle than a pressure washer and works just as well.

I don't have any photos right now (it's dark outside...very dark...and cold), but I'll snap some tomorrow in the daylight.

I also added a vacuum manifold, re-located my battery relocation terminal, cleaned up some nasty wiring mess, deleted some wiring, re-did some wiring and re-did some re-done wiring.

Tomorrow: Replace the blown HP power steering hose (freakin' $88!!!), clean/paint the stock intake manifold (explaination coming), hang the intake/exhaust manifold (turbo and wastegate mounted to it already) on the new engine, slap the valve cover on it (got bead blasted/painted) and bolt up the trans.

After that, install, re-connect, fill, fire.

ITB's will go on the engine after the installation and break-in. I don't want to be trouble shooting new designs if the thing doesn't run right upon installation. It's much more appropriate to install just like the current setup (stock intake mani), break-in and check vitals, then move on to the ITB's.

Besides, it won't be too hard to swap intake manifolds since all that vacuum / emissions stuff has been tossed aside.

Probably that'll be fine, WD. Lemme make sure this engine holds together for a week or so, then I'll be happy to ship the old one to you.

Well, that would rock...although, I have to compare the shipping cost to a junkyard special. I'm sure you understand.

More progress!

Today, I had to freakin' run my butt off getting some misc. things wrapped up (fab a hose, get some fittings, one of these, some of those, etc.). Took FOREVER!!!

Anyhow, here's what all I did today.

Despite how it looks in the photo, there really is quite a bit of re-wiring done here. I separated the injector wiring from the rest of the engine harness and gave the remainder a loom of it's own. Then, I split the MAF wiring from the rest of the engine harness and also gave it a new loom.

This is so I can tuck the engine harness UNDER the intake manifold, save for the injector wires. I hate having a giant mass of wires coming off the top of the engine and muckin' up the front side.

Also, the new MAF loom will come from under the intake manifold, and down the cold pipe for a blow-thru setup.

Passenger side all cleaned up, along with a custom brake shield/insulation.

I also relocated my positive battery post (from the relocation I did a while back). Now, it's mounted securely to the strut tower for easy access and a good clean look.

Also, in this photo, you'll see the new vacuum manifold, bolted to the strut tower. This will help keep the vacuum routing clean.

And here she is, ready to fly...

Custom made oil return line (hard fittings).

I plan on mating the trans to it and setting it into the engine bay tonight. More to come soon!

Geez, you could have atleast cleaned up the motor for the pictures...LOL.

Looks great man, rewiring is a PITA, but very worth the effort in the end.

As of 10:15pm ...it's in!

Now, all the reconnecting, refilling, etc. and it'll be ready to fire. Prolly fire it tomorrow morning. My neighbors might pitch a fit if I fire it tonight, let it warm completely, then shut down, drain, refill, fire again.

I'll keep ya'll updated. I'd take a pic right now, but it's super dark outside and the photo will suck.

Well, didn't get to fire it today, whatwith all the Turkeyday stuff goin' on, but I have made much progress. I have a ride tomorrow, so I won't be able to work on it until the afternoon. Hopefully I can fire it tomorrow evening.

Things left to do before firing:

Finish new IC pipesInstall spark plugs and wiresFill radiatorInstall overflow tankFill transmissionConnect battery

Here are some photos from today. You'll notice the extra loom over the top of the intake manifold near the injectors. That's the new loom I made by separating the injector harness from the rest of the engine harness.

Why is it over the top of the intake mani? Because I forgot to thread it underneath the intake mani while installing the engine! After it was mounted up and bolted down, I looked around and realized my mistake.

However, that's ok. This manifold isn't staying on there very long, and the new ITB setup will allow me to tuck those wires just fine.

Forgot to reroute the harness...LMAO. After all the rewiring, gonna have to add that to the "dumbass" list. My list is getting pretty long these days.

I want to hear some driving stories by Monday at the latest.
