Where did you work in high school to afford and keep the 240? I'm trying to find work but no one's really hiring...

Also what were your insurance rates like... I have heard it's at least $2000/yr for anyone under 25.

Thanks.

I worked at a auto shop 9th and 10th grade and then 11th and 12th at a Trucking Company washing trucks and cleaning the shop...by the end of my senior year I was doing clutch jobs and such. I got about 25 hours a week at $8.00 an hour. I then quit to get into a higher paying job once I graduated.

My insurance rates while in HS was $56.00 per month for liability insurance, now that I am out of HS it's gone up to $77.00 because I no longer can get the student discount...it pisses me off that it's so high! Okay so it's not really insanely high but It's pretty bad....

I work installing glass and tinting windows for 9$ an hour plus commission.

My insurance rates are 115 bucks a month for liability only and that's with no tickets and good grades. (on my own insurance)

2000 bucks a year? thats more than twice what I paid for my running 240....

the most I paid was 157(at 18) a month for base insurance, after 3 accidents and literally nuking my mustang in a firey death.

thats 1884 for 12 months? how can yalls be so high?

a 3 years later and now Im down to 96 bucks a month . guess IVe been a more careful driver....... or there are less deer where I live now.

I'm currently 17. I work at a fish store, making $200/month. My insurance is around $1800/year because I have full coverage (comes in handy when getting a car stolen).

When I was in HS I worked at an Eat'N'Park (Restaurant) about $6/hr and my Geico insurance is about $56/month and that's with multiple tickets and I wrecked my mom's van through the garage door one night. I report everything I don't know why my insurance never went up, but I aint complainin.

There is always someone hiring somewhere, you gotta work some crappy jobs but more experience and learning new trades helps to get better jobs down the road.

I'm gonna be 19 on the 30th so I still qualify for this thread.

I paid 67 dollars a month on my 240, that is before my 35 over the speed limit ticket I just got.

As for work. 67 dollars a month isnt anything. And now that gas is lower in price. Its easy to own a 240.

Also I think we should add in here whether your parents help you at all or not...like whether you payed for everything yourself (i.e bought car with your money and pay for your insurance and gas yourself) That's how it was for me....

No I didn't know him, I was out looking for a job and one day I was sitting in McD's filling out some applications and he noticed what I was doing and started talking to me, then he offered me a job and I took it. The shops insurance wouldn't allow me to be under a car when it was on the lift but other than that it was fine...we did engine swaps, transmission swaps, clutches, brakes, oil changes, anything and everything. That's where I really learned how to work on cars.

I left that job because of the 07 flood that wiped out our shop with 10 feet of water. The shop never recovered.

Worked as a sales associate at Staples making around 8 bucks and hour and paying around 2500 for insurance because NJ is terrible, not to mention purchasing the car and gas and mods all on my own.

Now I have to try to cling onto the money I have saved to afford the car while I am away at college.

I have always worked for my dad making around ~10 an hour. (construction)

Then i picked up a job roofing 2 years ago making ~18 an hour.

and I work doing landscaping/other yard work for ~12 an hour.

Unfortunately instead of saving some money, I spent it all on my vehicles.

When I was 18 I worked at Domino's Pizza making $6.50/hour, I made about $700 a month. I worked my azz off for four months a finally saved up enough to buy my 89 S13. I worked there for a year and had the car painted, bought Skunk2 lowering springs for it, and some SE wheels. At the same time I was helping my mom out with some of the bills.

This thread make me feel stupid. I'm 29, have had my 1st 240 for four years now, I make almost 3x as much as most of you guys and I still can't get these cars finished! Well, at least they're both running good.

I definently want to give a pat on the back to you guys (and girls) that are making it happen on really limited resources.

I forgot to say how much my insurance was, I use to do this back then not anymore. When I was 18 and had just bought my 89, I put it under my dads name(my dad doesn't live with me). That way, the car's insurance is under my dad's name(I pay less insurance), he doesn't have to put me under his insurance because I don't live with him, and if the cops stop me all I say is that he lent me the car. I was paying $55/month under his name. Since I bought my 91, it's completely under my name, I pay $120/month for it.

I've never been in a car accident.I've never had any traffic tickets.
