I definently want to give a pat on the back to you guys (and girls) that are making it happen on really limited resources.
I hear you... I make about 3x as much as most in this thread as well. But when you think about it, we have more bills than most of them do. Half of them probably don't know what credit card debt is... Man I wish I didn't have that BS.

meh ill be 20 in a few days but ive always paid my own way for all my vehicles insurance gas and mods

i currently pay 170 a month for my cressida and 240; im thinkin of droppin the 240 for six months while i repair it to cut my premium down....

ive always worked 35-40 hours with school, and more in the summer doing all sorts of things; yardwork for neighbors, restaurant work (buss host etc)

got a job at a bank, still am a teller a few days a week but the pay sorta blows.

i got the hookups with my friends family who own a small restaurant in my town and i bank off of that...

its cash only so i do pretty well for myself and the bank is now just extra money basicall (lousy 9.27 and hour)

oo i cook at the cafe sometimes too, but mostly serve.

idk where the OP is from, but when you turn 18 try taking a course for bartending, and do that

mad money-for real

or if you live in a big city try getting a valet job- did that when i was in philadelphia for school awsome rich people cars ftw

Im 19 and i am currently making $8 an hour, 35 hours a week at a local market. In the summer i work at a garage making $10.

I pay for EVERYTHING myself. my car, gas, registration, insurance, cell phone, food!, clothes.

Now that im 18 my parents dont buy me anything. Thats fine, ive always been independent.

My insurance only costs $45 a month (liability only )

Soon i should be able to dump some cash into the s-chassis, i hoping to have it look how i want by summer

Im 19 and work at mcdonald's full/part time....

Insurance is like 90 a month with no accidents, liability

Bought my hatch for 1000$ with some money I had saved up when I totaled my awd dsm, (I wish I had that for this winter!)

Saving for a wedding and building my hatch slowly, suspension first.

Also go to college full time as an auto mech student, should have a job in a shop by late Janurary early Feburary.

19 and have been doinging highrise window washing 11$ and 40 hours a week.

but if your interested you can start a small buisness kinda like mowing lawns...just go around and just go into places and offer to wash there windows twice a month for X amount.....a store with a a few windows inside and out can get you 30$ or so depends on alot of stuff but once you start getting fast the money comes in quick......i mean i can do a restarant or w/e in like 20 min...speed=money......but im paid by the hour....so it doesnt matter...and i also am mostly on big buildings....so yep

if high rise is an option for you then do it. most states start at 20-25 an hour and have "hazard pay" witch is X amount per story you go up. but VA sucks and doesnt support that. you need some major gonads to start but you will get use to it fast....or at least u better hope you do.

i wish i had a 240 when i was in hs. i was stuck with a big gas guzzling 70's ford pick up. but i got my first 240 when i was 20, it was a beater and it met its demise when a drunk lady crashed into it when it was parked. and my current 240 i bought about a year ago. and it still amazes me that a 240 being a (economy car) and an old car at that, can have a higher rate than my (sports car) 3000gt. the 240 is like 90/month and my mitsu is only 78/month! i guess the insurance guys got a hold of some option volumes and decided that they would make more money sticking it to the guys with old FR cars!

having a 240 in high school is the best, knowing you have one of the best 3 cars in the parking lot is hilarious esp when the only better cars are an evo and an 89 mustang gt with a full catless exhaust including headers. and btw a 240 is considered a sports car cause of the rwd drivetrain =]

The kouki used to grab a lot of attention when i was in HS. Even the honda kids liked it.

Back on topic, when I 18 I was working at the Board Of Education as an Administrative Assistant (@ $8.00) Which was enough to buy me my first car (p.o.s dodge neon. screwin transmission gave out) and my second car teh koukz lol.

But now i'm jobless and depend on my parents for any source of income it sucks.

if you have a family member in the usa military that has USAA insurance then its a better idea to get connected with them and finding insurance that way unless you are in the military already. better and cheaper than gieco.

I wouldn't necessarily call the 89 Fox body a better car... Atleast I don't think it is..

I'm 17 and it's my last year of high school. For work I scored a ballin job at this local company making like $13/hr as a Project Manager/Designer/Engineer/Drafter like guy. And my insurance is like $693 dollars a year or some crazy low crap like that, I have USAA and I get the Driving School Discount and a Good Student Discount (4.5427.... GPA FTW!)

the foxbody belongs to one of my good friends its nice, he had the clutch all the way out in first gear barely touching the throttle then floored it and spun wheels all the way down a road, it has torque and alot of potential. personally i think 240s have the most potential out of most cars out there. oh and the honda kids in my parking lot despise me. even the honda kids at another school in my county because ive already beat their fastest civic so gg basically. oh and my grandad paid 3200 dollars cash for my s13.

I'm 17 and I dropped about 1.3 k for suspension goodies for my 1990 s13 coupe. My dad bought it for me in July 2008 and he pays for all my gas and insurance. I pay 200 a month for liability insurance and I don't work yet because I'm being certified as an EMT and that's like 12 hour days 5 days a week.

Sadly my job and pay are the same from when I was 18. Making $7.50 an hr at a dealer ship cleaning cars. Insurance is around $420 every 6 months. I pay for everything on the car. I can't wait until I sign the papers to get into the military.

a 3 years later and now Im down to 96 bucks a month . guess IVe been a more careful driver....... or there are less deer where I live now.
should add,

paid for my 240 in cash after the mustang was totalled

paid for my swap in cash

paid for all the parts on my car in cash

have nearly an 800 credit score

my parents stopped even buying me food at 15, at 15 I had to start working to support myself, so I had to learn real quick.

when i was 20 when i got my 240 i was paying 700/6 months for liability thru geico. this was with like student discount and having a clean record since 16. it also doesn't help that i live in NYC (one of the highest rates probably).

now i just went under my dad's name and i'm paying <400$/6 mo. also 22 now too.
