........ Is lexus better than Infiniti?? Do they last longer, and have less problems....... If so, what are some common problems with them.......??

The only thing that makes me wonder about this, is I could get my 94Q, put 5000 into it to make it IMMACULATE, and still have money left over...... And get a ~92 LS400 and it would probably need about that much to make it perfect......

Is their value in the public's perception of quality??

The thing is...... Infiniti is better in almost every way..... They perform better, they handle better, and they last every bit as long, and they cost about the same to maintain (lexus may be a touch cheaper)...... The only thing that seperates them is Lexii ride a little softer, and their styling is different (not better, but different)

There are obviously other differences, but those are the big ones.........

I can GUARN-TEE (thats what we say in indiana :D ) that if someone drove up in a lexus, and then someone else drove up in an infiniti (assuming their in similar condition), the person in the lexus would get more comments than the infiniti owner.....

I knew I should have thrown this phrase in

"To the untrained, NICO-ized eye"

I can tell you one thing, before I became a Qman, I thought lexii were better!

I would have to say yes.

Although the tides seem to be turning with the G35 coupe and sedans, Infiniti still hasn't gotten it right.

The new Q45 is a vehicle that looks any distinction. From a mile away I keep mistaking it for Buick or :Gasp: a hyundai. It looks neither attractive or butt-ugly, just plain. Great engine but performance isn't a quantum leap over competitors as Nissan FALSELY touted.

The new M45 is another car that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Commercials revolve around a theme of muscle cars yet the car doesn't hold a candle to the real luxury muscle cars ie the M5, E55, Audi RS6 and Jaguar S-Type. The improvements in performance are not enough to merit it a true muscle car as Infiniti so claims. Also, how does the introduction of a car that's essentially a better-looking Q45 with lower base price bode for the flagship vehicle of the line? I'd say new Q owners aren't too happy.

Throught out its history, Infiniti has languished in mediocrity with bold flashes of brilliance (first gen Q, G35 coupe and sedan) but the lineup as a whole does NOT standout whereas you could pick any car from the Lexus lineup and each car has been successful in its intended purpose. Lexus did not set out to reinvent the wheel but focused its efforts in putting quality behind its cars.

Things are picking up for Infiniti but this company still has a way to go before it really starts to challenge its stronger japanese counterpart.

When people (normal, untrained) hear or think LEXUS, they think "ooh, fast, expensive, NICE", when they think INFINITI, they are like "eh, thats nice, but look at that lexus!! Get one of those!"

Ahem, I remember Nissan press releases touting the Q45 as being able to reach 60 from a standing start in 5.2 seconds. In fact I have the press release CD. A high 6 second 0-60 run is on the optimistic side for this car. Nissan only change the numbers when all the cars turned out slower magazine times than expected.

Dennis has mentioned some common problems with the early LS400. P/S pump fails routinely, hood struts fail promptly at 60K, they have a timing belt that after two replacements costs as much as a guide job, had an old-style distributor/wire setup, the valves needed adjustment, etc...

I think the big plus was a more reliable tansmission. He did an analysis of the ownership costs of the LS400 vs. the Q, and it was amazing how efficient the used car market is in reflecting the true value of the cars.

That being said, they really are very different cars that seem to appeal to very different market segments - unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your perspective) Lexus appears to have latched on to the more profitable market segment. Bland soup vs. gumbo.

Thats because Infiniti has not done that advertising or anything to get their name out. Some people I've talked to haven't even know what an Infiniti was. If Infiniti came to become a more recognized name(I don't know how that would be accomplished), their sales in all levels would pick up.

Personally I think so few Q's are sold because most lots have 1, or maybe 2. they have a majority of I30's and J30's. ANd people only see those and are kinda dissuaded(i think i made that word up? the opposite or persuaded)

edit: yes. almost a chat room. a post a minute for like that past 10 minutes

Lexus NEVER touted their car as being a sub 6-second 0-60'er despite the fact that the LS430 is faster than the new with LESS power.

Personally.....From my experience with infiniti's...Most people haven't even heard of them....I love em...and then whenever someone asks what is that? I tell em all about how its the greatest car ever....But the MAJORITY of the general public could not tell the difference between a Maxima and a Q45.

I would much rather have a Infiniti over a Lexus.Heck I'd rather have aNissan over a Lexus.LOL Lots of people think that Lexus makes a great car but those same people dont like Toyota???? LOL I say if the comman person who doesn't know that a Lexus is a dressed up Toyota then let them have at it.I'll stick to Nissan/Infiniti. I got my 2k2 Altima 3.5se loaded because... A) It has style. B) It has power. C)affordable luxury. The only car that I would even think of getting instead would be a M45/Q45/FX45/G35. ;)

Wow! Bold statement. But coming from a Nissan/Infiniti board member, I'm not surprised.

95 LS400 is an arse-ugly car. Big goofy headlights (plastic), dull, slab-sided styling, and the cheapest taillight treatment on any luxury car in years. And didn't age HALF as well as our cars...

I agree the new Q missed the mark, but to be honest, infiniti's marketing department should be hanged at dawn. I've ranted on about this before, but they have shot themselves in the foot more times that you can count. Think back to the early 90's:

Infiniti = Rocks, streams, weird music, and trees.Lexus = An LS on a dyno roller at WOT with a pyramid of wine glasses on the hood.

Brilliant, and the first of many arse-whuppin's doled out in the advertising wars. One can only hope those guys wise up before its too late.

This time I have to disagree fundamentally with Aztek72 for these reasons.

[quote=" Aztek72 The new Q45 is a vehicle that looks any distinction. From a mile away I keep mistaking it for Buick or :Gasp: a hyundai. It looks neither attractive or butt-ugly, just plain.

While not a copy, especially with the gatling gun headlights, it does follow function over form for branding's sake. Only an untrained eye would mistake it for a Hyundai or a Buick. Same people who thought a first generation Q was a Taurus or an XJ.

The new M45 is another car that doesn't quite know what it wants to be. Commercials revolve around a theme of muscle cars yet the car doesn't hold a candle to the real luxury muscle cars ie the M5, E55, Audi RS6 and Jaguar S-Type.

The M45 will run and hide from any non-supercharged S-type, or Audi 6, and do well against normally aspirated E430s and 540i for thousands less.

The improvements in performance are not enough to merit it a true muscle car as Infiniti so claims. Also, how does the introduction of a car that's essentially a better-looking Q45 with lower base price bode for the flagship vehicle of the line? I'd say new Q owners aren't too happy.

The third generation Q45 owners to whom I speak are very happy and think they have made a particularly astute choice.

Throught out its history, Infiniti has languished in mediocrity with bold flashes of brilliance (first gen Q, G35 coupe and sedan) but the lineup as a whole does NOT standout whereas you could pick any car from the Lexus lineup and each car has been successful in its intended purpose.

Except for the ES250 which was a camry dog with poorly applied mascara. It was as bad as the LS400 was good.

Lexus did not set out to reinvent the wheel but focused its efforts in putting quality behind its cars.

And so has Infiniti, often matching Lexus in many quality measures, occasionally besting them. Too bad it's a secret to most, but good for the cognoscenti.

Things are picking up for Infiniti but this company still has a way to go before it really starts to challenge its stronger japanese counterpart.
It is worth noting that few on this board own a Lexus also, and usually it is an SUV. Never an ES300. The owners here have voted with their money and their heart. There is little debate for them.

Who cares what other people think, if you like driving a Q, drive one. If your a Lexus type, drive that, if your a Ferrari type, keep the revs up. Its all about personal preference. All cars have been designed by guys and girls that try to make a car what they hope people want. This is 2003, all cars are made pretty damn good, their getting ready to fly. Early Infiniti cars were quite ahead of their time and this is a good brand. Infiniti cars are still cutting edge and I love the high end performance mode that we are living in right now. Everyone is building fast, fun cars. Have you seen that little Mitsubishi and that Subaru, all wheel drive, sub 5 second, sub 12 second cars for under 20k... . I still think the Nissans/Infiniti are the best, how about that convertible Z. I think its all about soul, my 90Q is my Teutonic soul mate. This is what it is for me at this point in time, enjoy driving this/your/any car today, right now and live in the moment (buckle up).

Awhile ago I would have taken a lexus over infiniti because they really didnt make any cars I liked. But since the G35 coupe came out I changed my mind. But I do like IS300's. Dont think I will ever care for the big grandma style boat cars though, even if they have massive engines
