Hey I know you have alot going on but I am curious if you would make a carbon fiber sunroof top to replace the glass. I would want it to have the seal on it. I have a 95 and my sunroof glass is fine but the fiberglass trim piece around it is cracked and it is a common problem so there is a market.

Progress has been slow but I'm going to try my hardest to get out and finish these.Like I said before the normal coil cover and the upper timing cover are complete and I've just been stuck on finishing the vented cover. If I drop the vented one's I can get this up and going in no time. The reason I haven't dropped it is because everyone is showing interest in the vented and not the normal one.

I can go for a plain (standard) instead of the vented, if it will help you.

This still excites me

any idea yet on how much the costs would be -- I'm interested in both covers. Prefer the vented, but would take the regular

Not selling any yet. But I can already see the sales cut in half if not more without the vented cover.

I think you wouldnt lose too much sales... I would prefer the non vented to be honest. The vented for sure will cost more and i dont have a money tree in my yard yet.

Well, the carbon pattern size/waste is almost the same for the 2 designs. What makes it more $ is the time to cut and drill the holes. Kevlar is NOT easy to cut or drill.Maybe I can make some covers that aren't cut for some people so it will be cheaper.

Its nearly 2 months since he last updated this and before that he was very active on this thread. He's a couple of tweaks and polishes away from a mini gold mine. I don't think he would abandon this project unless something really messed up has gone on in his life or something....I hope everythings ok.

Jeez, I've been so busy that I missed all the excitment . What a great idea and one that may really do something for the guy in a serious way. I wouldn't think the worst though, that would seem unnessissary at the moment. He may have had some legal counsil or something of that nature suggesting he not show too much else until he's done. Or who knows... Does anyone know?

As far as the factory covers go... really? No one willing to give him a couple, er... aahemm, ugh, not even one 26 cover? That's so freakin wierd! He coulda had both of mine for nothing. WTF am I gonna want with them anyhow? To get a jump start on cooking my new Splitfire-001's? No thanks! I'll go with the cool ones he's making, or none at all and call it a performance mod. lol

I was thinking just recently about taking my covers to the mill and machining some well placed slots in them with a 1/4" mill. Then I stumble on to this thread... and find it had been resting for the last few months.

I read through it from the begining and never expected it to end/pause like it has.

There's always this type of thing
rb26dett-carbon-fiber-covers-t479663.html
.... but, still gotta mill slots or vents in it...!

Hey everyone, sorry for the dropped off the face of the earth act. Long story short, I'm in the middle of a likely divorce and I'm away from all of my molds and composites. I haven't given up on these covers. They are sitting on a shelf ready to go and multiplied I just need to get another shop set up and running again.

AZhitman, I'm truly sorry for the huge delay and will try to get one to you asap.

Once again, I'm really sorry for the delay everyone and I WILL be reopening this thread and continuing my composites build.

Ditto! Good to hear your still around. Sucks to hear about family problems though...

This is what I did to one of the covers for the mean time. Seems like it worked pretty well. :) I got lots of compliments on how "custom" it was... lol. There just 1/2" milled slots.

^That looks pretty good, maybe I can make a mold like that to add to the choices.
I'm working on getting into a house and waiting for everything to clear, could be a week, could be a month. But a teaser, it has a shop with over 1500 insulated sq ft and has AC which means easy quality control and faster molding time since I can keep a consistent epoxy ratio. :bigthumb: Sorry for the bad phone pic.
