I'm at 600 miles on my '14 SL - getting 14.3 mpg, around 220 miles per fill up (15.9 gallons). All of this is city driving, much of it in the snow, short trips averaging 2 to 3 miles... really hope this improves once it warms up and the snow is gone

I'm similar to you, only a 2 mile drive to work everyday in the bitter cold. I've been getting about 17mpg. I've taken a few highway trips and it jumps into the high 20s. I'm confident that longer trips and warmer weather will help the gas millage improve.

Went on a 200 mile round trip this weekend. Doing 70-75, trip computer was showing 30.5, a little disappointing, however it was kind of windy. The tank ended up being 29.3 I think. The last two days the weather has been really nice. 50's in the morning to high 70's during the day.

It seems to be bumping up because of the warmer though. The last two mornings have been 32.2 and 31.7 and 36 on the way home each day, so this could be my best tank yet... will have to wait and see though. I also am going in for my first oil change on Friday.

Last week I took a round road trip from Boston to Miami to Boston, and I can report that I averaged 24.6 gals. Avg. speed 70 mph. The HVAC was not on for about half of the trip. I personally expected to get at least 30 mpgs

You were doing 70 and wonder why you mpg was so poor? The ratings are based on driving no faster than 55 mph.

According to studies backed by the department of energy, the average car will be at its advertised MPG at 55 mph. But as the speed increases:

- 3% less efficient at 60 mph
- 8% less efficient at 65 mph
- 17% less efficient at 70 mph
- 23% less efficient at 75 mph
- 28% less efficient at 80 mph

See the graph below (from fueleconomy.gov):

How many miles total? Just curious. I have noticed in my 5800 miles so far that it really depends on the wind as well. I have taken a couple of 200 mile trips so far, and the trip computer shows ( I usually don't fill up till around 350 miles or so) about 31-31.5. This is usually going 65-70 depending on what the speed limit is. Doing the same thing in our 2013 Accord, I usually get about 36-37, which is 1-2 MPG better than EPA HWY for my perticular model

JLD94, congratulation on 29mpg overall.
There are a bunch of apps for your smartphone that calculate and record your mileage. I use fuelog.

At 7000 miles, 90% highway in snowy upstate NY I've averaged 24.5, calculated by fuelog.
The only time I get 30mpg is at 65mph and a 20 mile per hour wind at my back on a level highway.
Same driving habits with a 2009 Caravan (heavier vehicle, larger engine, more drag, 185,000 miles) average calculated gas mileage was 22.
Not very much improvement!!!
Go to fueleconomy.gov to learn about epa estimates and fuel economy.
Manufactures estimate fuel economy. EPA verifys 10-15% of new models.
I love my 2014SV. It is the best equipped SUV under $25,000 (List was $26,700).

I agree with you here. I'm sure the highway ratings are on a flat highway at a perfect constant speed. Obviously isn't going to include strong wind, hills, braking and accelerating a lot.

Thanks. This weekend I went to the same place Sat and Sunday, a 90 mile round trip. First day I went was going about 70...on HWY and it showed 30.4, with some wind. Sunday I was running a little late so went on a toll road where the speed limit is 80, and it dropped to 26.9 on the first leg. Second leg was back up to almost 28 I think, can't remember.

dealership completed my first oil change last weekend and I had them reset my fuel economy indicator - mpg for city driving shot up from 14.6 to 18.8. I also did a hwy run of around 30 miles averaging 65mph and got 30.1 mpg on that trip. this is a welcome change from what I was averaging a few weeks ago.

Curious how many miles you had on it before it was changed? Also did you notice what oil they put in?

It is really easy to reset it yourself, the manual will explain it, I don't know if I would do a good job of trying to explain it here.

this was the 1st scheduled oil change, 3 months since purchase which they did for free. I was only at 900 miles - they used Valvoline 5W-30

Took 150 trip today of only highway, and hit about 30mpg. My average daily short commute is only about 18mpg, but at least I know solid numbers are out there.

I've got almost 1200 miles on the new Rogue, so far I'm getting 28.1 mpg (last tank was 29.3, while the Rogue fuel efficiency said I got 31.0). I'm pretty happy with that. If someone could tell me how to link the fuelly info to the bottom of my post I'll do it (I searched the forum and couldn't find any instructions on how to do it).

Under your fuelly account on the right hand side of the screen there is a think that says "share your MPG" click on that and decide which one you want, copy the address, then come here and under the user control panel here, go into 'edit signature' and paste it. That should do it.

My wife has a 2010 AWD and only gets 20 mpg for 70% highway and 30% city driving. Pretty poor mileage for a car this small with a 4 cylinder engine.

I'm up to 1200 miles and I'm averaging 27/28mpg combined city/highway. On just highway stints I get 33mpg. After my first oil change , which will be soon I expect even better mileage when I put Mobil 1 05w30 into the Rogue. I used this oil in my 2013 3.5 SL Altima and got close to 40 mpg highway, so the oil you use does make a difference.

While the 3.5VQ in the v6 Altima is spec'd for 5W30 (as it is an older engine design) the revised QR25DE in the new Rogue (and 4 cylinder Altima) is spec'd for 0W20. It will not damage your engine, but using 5W30 will give you worse fuel economy and will not let your engine operate as it was designed.

See page 389 and 393 in the PDF of your owner's manual
https://owners.nissanusa.com/content/te ... manual.pdf

Higher viscosity oil will make your fuel economy worse. In fact, the MPG improvement claims Mobil 1 put in their marketing are based on switching from higher viscosity oil to a lower viscosity oil, rather than anything specific to their oil. To quote their fine print:
"Comparison based upon 2% potential fuel economy improvement obtained by switching from higher viscosity oils to a 0W-20 or 0W-30 grade"

[quote="CapeCodChips"]I have a grey 2014 SV AWD. I'm not getting the nice MPG's most of you are. Stats:
Mileage: 2114, 9 fillups, 92 gallons, average of 23 MPG. This is over 80% highway at 72 mph.
Best tank was 27 MPG, driving at 67 with a 30 mph wind at my back for 120 miles.

As a comparison my 2009 Caravan 183,000 miles got 21 MPG in Nov-Dec.

I will see the dealer in a couple of weeks and get it checked out.

Revised:
Now at 4,000 miles
Last 3 tanks have averaged 25.5 MPG, 90% highway

March 29th, I've owned the 2014 Rogue exacty 3 months.
Stats:
Just went over 11,000 miles
40 fillups
24.31 calculated MPG (every fillup recorded)
90% Highway at 70 MPH
The trip computer is not accurate, off by 8%.
Nissan USA REFUSES to talk about it...

I am getting an average of 25.1. I got ~29 on the way down from Johnson City to Atlanta and ~27 on the way back, 99% freeway driving both ways. Those numbers are decent considering I was going 70 most of those trips. City MPG is very not good though, usually between 16-22mpg for city driving trips even when I drive it very economically. Are most of us with the lower than expected MPG having the AWD version? I am curious.

I wonder if the factory puts in a synthetic 0W-20 oil when they ship the vehicle. This switch in oil weights has a lot of previous owners wondering about the benefits. Also my 2008 Rogue took 4.9 quarts of oil during a change, the manual now states 5 1/8 quarts so they must have changed something.

The revised QR25DE, which debuted in the 2013 Altima, is a significantly updated engine:
http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/ ... ery=altima

As it has and has been revised to use 0W20, you can be assured that they put 0W20 in the car from the factory. The reason being that switching to 0W20 makes a significant, measurable, repeatable improvement in fuel economy testing. This is a well known fact, based on fundamental physics, verified by multiple dyno charts, supported by manufacturer and government research, and not up for debate within the industry.
https://www.sae.org/search/?qt=0W20&x=0&y=0

However, you have to make some changes to an engine to make it the recommended oil (more expensive machining, finishing, coatings, seals, etc.), so if you paid the engineering/manufacturing costs associated with that, you would want to take advantage of that investment. While a ~2% or .5 mpg improvement may not sound like much, it is an important difference from a CAFE perspective and may be the difference between "best in class" fuel economy and also-ran. If Nissan is not putting it in the car, then they would not be delivering what they put in fuel economy testing and would be breaking the law.

However, they may not be using full synthetic. You can make 0W20 in a synthetic blend that meets specs and does not make a significant difference to fuel economy testing. It is almost as expensive to produce as full synthetic, so it doesn't make sense for the consumer market. However, for a manufacturer using a million gallons or so a year, that small cost difference adds up.

Using an non-recommended grade of oil is like not using the recommended premium fuel in the Juke. You will not damage the engine, but you will also not get the performance quoted by the manufacturer.

Im on my third tank of gas and each has been getting better. The last full up showed 27.4 mpg. Mostly freeway driving with a lot of varying speeds since it's still in the break in process. Hopefully it stays the same as he or even gets slightly better.

Not sure if everyone else is noticing a difference with the warmer weather, but I am here in Pennsylvania. Driving essentially the same drive to work everything, I've gone from 18mpg to 22mpg. I have a very short commute to work, so I'm happy with the numbers rising from the frigid cold. Highway driving has given me 30+ mpg.

815 Miles on odometer in two weeks. Average is now 26.5 - First two tanks averaged 25.3 and going up.

I have been sitting in slow moving traffic for over an hour on I90 towards Boston once, and did do many highway miles, but lot of it was up hill highway driving upstate ny. I did try to keep a steady pedal and get the best gas mileage and I'm pretty happy with what I've seen so far. It easily beats what I get on my 2005 CRV. If I get 25 to 28 range I'll be more than happy. Real world is always different from stated numbers.

When Highway is stated, you have to look more at down hill of flat terrains to get better mileage. No complaints with my mileage so far. The Rogue can really pull it's weight when necessary, but I always try to gently accelerate and keep my speed below 75 during the breakin period.
