I'm similar to you, only a 2 mile drive to work everyday in the bitter cold. I've been getting about 17mpg. I've taken a few highway trips and it jumps into the high 20s. I'm confident that longer trips and warmer weather will help the gas millage improve.Von-T wrote:I'm at 600 miles on my '14 SL - getting 14.3 mpg, around 220 miles per fill up (15.9 gallons). All of this is city driving, much of it in the snow, short trips averaging 2 to 3 miles... really hope this improves once it warms up and the snow is gone

How many miles total? Just curious. I have noticed in my 5800 miles so far that it really depends on the wind as well. I have taken a couple of 200 mile trips so far, and the trip computer shows ( I usually don't fill up till around 350 miles or so) about 31-31.5. This is usually going 65-70 depending on what the speed limit is. Doing the same thing in our 2013 Accord, I usually get about 36-37, which is 1-2 MPG better than EPA HWY for my perticular modeliRogue wrote:Last week I took a round road trip from Boston to Miami to Boston, and I can report that I averaged 24.6 gals. Avg. speed 70 mph. The HVAC was not on for about half of the trip. I personally expected to get at least 30 mpgs
I agree with you here. I'm sure the highway ratings are on a flat highway at a perfect constant speed. Obviously isn't going to include strong wind, hills, braking and accelerating a lot.Rogue One wrote:You were doing 70 and wonder why you mpg was so poor? The ratings are based on driving no faster than 55 mph.
According to studies backed by the department of energy, the average car will be at its advertised MPG at 55 mph. But as the speed increases:
- 3% less efficient at 60 mph
- 8% less efficient at 65 mph
- 17% less efficient at 70 mph
- 23% less efficient at 75 mph
- 28% less efficient at 80 mph
See the graph below (from fueleconomy.gov):
Thanks. This weekend I went to the same place Sat and Sunday, a 90 mile round trip. First day I went was going about 70...on HWY and it showed 30.4, with some wind. Sunday I was running a little late so went on a toll road where the speed limit is 80, and it dropped to 26.9 on the first leg. Second leg was back up to almost 28 I think, can't remember.CapeCodChips wrote:JLD94, congratulation on 29mpg overall.
There are a bunch of apps for your smartphone that calculate and record your mileage. I use fuelog.
At 7000 miles, 90% highway in snowy upstate NY I've averaged 24.5, calculated by fuelog.
The only time I get 30mpg is at 65mph and a 20 mile per hour wind at my back on a level highway.
Same driving habits with a 2009 Caravan (heavier vehicle, larger engine, more drag, 185,000 miles) average calculated gas mileage was 22.
Not very much improvement!!!
Go to fueleconomy.gov to learn about epa estimates and fuel economy.
Manufactures estimate fuel economy. EPA verifys 10-15% of new models.
I love my 2014SV. It is the best equipped SUV under $25,000 (List was $26,700).
Curious how many miles you had on it before it was changed? Also did you notice what oil they put in?Von-T wrote:dealership completed my first oil change last weekend and I had them reset my fuel economy indicator - mpg for city driving shot up from 14.6 to 18.8. I also did a hwy run of around 30 miles averaging 65mph and got 30.1 mpg on that trip. this is a welcome change from what I was averaging a few weeks ago.
Under your fuelly account on the right hand side of the screen there is a think that says "share your MPG" click on that and decide which one you want, copy the address, then come here and under the user control panel here, go into 'edit signature' and paste it. That should do it.daltonvol wrote:I've got almost 1200 miles on the new Rogue, so far I'm getting 28.1 mpg (last tank was 29.3, while the Rogue fuel efficiency said I got 31.0). I'm pretty happy with that. If someone could tell me how to link the fuelly info to the bottom of my post I'll do it (I searched the forum and couldn't find any instructions on how to do it).
It worked! Thanks for the info!JLD94 wrote:Under your fuelly account on the right hand side of the screen there is a think that says "share your MPG" click on that and decide which one you want, copy the address, then come here and under the user control panel here, go into 'edit signature' and paste it. While the 3.5VQ in the v6 Altima is spec'd for 5W30 (as it is an older engine design) the revised QR25DE in the new Rogue (and 4 cylinder Altima) is spec'd for 0W20. It will not damage your engine, but using 5W30 will give you worse fuel economy and will not let your engine operate as it was designed.mag318 wrote:I'm up to 1200 miles and I'm averaging 27/28mpg combined city/highway. On just highway stints I get 33mpg. After my first oil change , which will be soon I expect even better mileage when I put Mobil 1 05w30 into the Rogue. I used this oil in my 2013 3.5 SL Altima and got close to 40 mpg highway, so the oil you use does make a difference.
The revised QR25DE, which debuted in the 2013 Altima, is a significantly updated engine:mag318 wrote:I wonder if the factory puts in a synthetic 0W-20 oil when they ship the vehicle. This switch in oil weights has a lot of previous owners wondering about the benefits. Also my 2008 Rogue took 4.9 quarts of oil during a change, the manual now states 5 1/8 quarts so they must have changed something.
