On my very first tank, 95% city driving I calculated my mileage at an amazing:

9.1L/100Km, which in American units is 25.8 miles per American gallon (31 miles per Imperial gallon).

This blows the EPA fuel efficiency estimates out of the water, and I haven't even come close to breaking in the engine yet. I drove paying careful attention to efficiency, easy on the throttle and brake, but I also opened it up from time to time and for some fast acceleration.

I couldn't be happier with this, and hope it gets even better with time.

Update:

Now at 7500km (4500mi).

8.8l/100km or 26.7mpg60% hwy, 40% city

Same here, miss my Jeep but like the 23-25mpg the trip computer tells me. Rogue is still on break in.

My actual gas mileage being split 1/3 highway 2/3 city was 22.0 (the digital estimate was 23.0). The gas gauge read 2 bars when I filled up and I toped off at 16.5 gals. I now have 800 miles on my vehicle.

23.4 and 24.5 on the first 2 fill-ups...calculated mileage. Under 700 miles on the odometer and the calculated mileage matched the car's MPG as well.

All driving: Hwy, city, country roads with 2 different drivers...I am not a drag racer, the wife is...

5/11/08: calculated 23.9 MPG, computer says 24.5, less Hwy driving this time and filled up with just over 1/4 tank left

Modified by RubenTheRogue at 3:19 PM 5/11/2008

5/18/08: calculated 22.8 MPG, computer says 23.7, no HWY driving all city/commuter traffic and driving with quicker takeoffs than normal, filled up with just over 1/4 tank left.

I'm on the first tank of gas, about half of it is used. Computer shows 13mpg. Does it make sense?

Have you been resetting your computer? Sometimes right after you do that it shows very low numbers but they gradually increase as you drive.

I reset computer at 30 miles, at that time it was showing 10mpg. Now I have 175 miles, the tank is 1/4 full and mpg is 13.8. Is that normal?

Wait until you are on your second tank of gas. Reset the trip computer then and see if it changes.

Now that summer has finally come to this god forsaken place called iowa, my rogue has warmed up a bit. The last 2 tanks i avg 26.5 and 27.3mpg driving 80% hwy and using 89octane 10% ethanol blend. I do my own calculations and I drive like an old lady when i'm driving to work 250 miles a week. Just went over 8000 miles on the odometer. I'm pleased with my rogue with the exception of the rust spots that developed in less than 6 months! The clay bar took them off, so we'll see if they come back.

Just took my first road trip to the Quebec/NY border from VA. Milage was phenominal when driven at under 2,000 RPM on the open highway. 28-30. Hit the moutains the milage droped to 25-75 on a combination of open highways and twisty mountain roads.

Filled up on Friday and have been doing short jaunts for shopping and honey-do chores all weekend. Averageing 22-24 mpg.

Have not put this foot into this car yet, waiting for a good break in period.

I was in Utah over the weekend and got 31 mpg on a tank (using manual calculation).

This was with an average speed of 36 mph on hot (upper 80's) days at an altitude of about 4,000-5,000 feet with pure 85 octane.

Got over 450 miles out of that tank.

Hi:

I just bought a 2008 Rogue Premium Package with no AWD.

About 3000 miles on it and have been manually tracking the gas mileage in addition to cost per KM. (yes I'm Canadian).

For our purposes I've converted over to US gallon.

The reality is it has been recording about 4- 5 MPG less than the EPA ratings and over the last 5 full tanks has averaged only 24 MPG.I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS.

Driving conditions are pretty consistent as our drive to work is 50% highway driving 50% city.

I've tried using premium octane but no difference is noted.

Any thoughts on this? Is it because of a break in period or could there be something wrong with the car? I feel like the gas mileage readings have been misrepresented.

Otherwise I don't mind the vehicle.

Greg.

I'll reply. Your mileage is EXACTLY what the EPA says you should get: A combined 24 mpg. I'm usually getting about 22, but get as low as 18 and as high as 30 depending upon the driving conditions. If you're getting 24 and are unhappy, perhaps you should give the car's sticker a good look over before you buy it, since it couldn't be any clearer. I also think 24 is a bit better than many people are getting in combined mileage calculations.

If you'd like to read my extensive review "Why I bought a Nissan Rogue" epinions.com, which discusses the car's mpg, click on the link:

You answered your own question. I have been noticing increased fuel economy as I passed the 7000km mark. Also, as reported by many members ; fuel economy with the CVT plummets quickly if you do alot of heavy acceleration. The CVT will have a tendency to hold higher rpm's for longer than a traditional auto transmission and burn more fuel as a result. Lighten up on the right foot and keep your highway speed below 120kph and you'll do much better. I average 28-29mpg or 8-8.5l/100km on my SL FWD.

Went through my first tank of gas on my new Rogue AWD SL. 435 miles on the odometer. Per manual calculations - 24.5mph . Per the computer in the car, 23.5mph. I was suprised that the computer came in lower the actual mpg and I was also surprised that the gas mileage was as high as it was on a brand new car. This was about 60% highway / 40% city.Pam

Pammy, your mileage is typical of a brand new Rogue. Give a few thousand miles (5000mi.) to break in and you should notice an improvement.

Latest mileage calc: 8.4l/100km or 28mpgDriving Mix: 25% hwy (120km/h), 50%rural (95km/h), 25% city (60km/h)Vehicle mileage: approx 10,000km or 6000mi.

1st tank (started at 19 on the Odo) = 32.4 mpg. 70/30 hwy/city. Max speed = 65mph. Max RPM = 4k. Auto CVT for hwy, manual shifting in city. A/C on 100%. Altitude - 5400 - 5900 MSL, WX = moderately hot. Traffic = light. Load = none. Tires = Contis 4x4 Contact, pressure at 40 (!!! goof by dealer before I got home to check it). Am switching to Avids so MPG might improve. MPG manually measured. No special tricks employed. This was real world driving.

I can live with that for first time out of the box.

BTW, thanks for this helpful site!

100% city driving. Stop and go, some heavy accelerating, but otherwise regular driving style. 9.89 km per liter, which equates to 10.1l/100km. In my opinion thats not too bad!!!

Um.

Using 91 octane in a car designed for 87 is a bad idea. It is not "better" for your car.

The numbers are actually a class system, regarding how much energy it takes for the gas to ignite. Placing fuel that takes longer to ignite in a system that needs it now (JG Wentworth, right?) can actually cause damage to the car.

Gas costs way too damn much...

Only buy high octane if you drive a sports car that requires it.

3rd tank - 35.7. No A/C this time. Same route, same fuel pump & nozzle, same WX. Likin' this ride!

Here is something interesting...

My last tank was 80% highway, 120km/h (75mph), and 20% city 60km/h (35mph). I got 540km on 52l of fuel for 9.6 l/100km or 24.4mpg. This is a drop of 1.3 l/100 or about 4mpg. I think I will heed my own advice again and ease off the gas.

You prolly thought of this already...but: Any significant differences in load, weather (especially wind), traffic conditions, your sportiness, brand of fuel, etc? 4 mpg is a pretty big drop!

Yeah, I normally only drive about 110km/h and I'm easy on the gas. This time, I've been driving much faster than normal. I still firmly believe the CVT decreases your fuel economy during heavy acceleration, and maybe more so than a conventional automatic.
