O'Reilly Auto Parts, NAPA, and a random "Hill-Billy" gas station I came across while driving along a 2 lane road in western Missouri.

*side note* It's good to see my very first post is still alive and well (sniff)...really tugs at the ol' heart strings.

*more important side note* SeaFoam also makes an automatic transmission cleaner. I'd be interested to see how well it works...anyone with the required transmission care to try it?

A thousand apologies for bringing this back from the kinda dead. But I just got some SEAFOAM and was gonna run it but dont know how to get ahold of a new O2 sensoe should i need one. Is it easy to get a hold of one? I just don't want to run the foam and then have my computer freak out and be stuck...

thanks...

dragon, get AMSoil, worth the time, GL-4 only

i might suggest using straight up trans fluid, cheap *** murrays brand red automatic transmission fluid will do the same thing pretty much as far as blowing out the carbon, i havent doen this on my 240 yeat and im not familiar with the vac harness but on my spirit r/t i just teed a vac line in from a line off the throttle body and stuck it in a bottle of the trans fluid, pinch the line (while the car is running, set a brick to hold the revs at 3000 rpm or so) pinch the line going into the bottle of trans fluid so it doesnt suck too much in and bog the motor, and regulate it til a good 3/4 of the bottle is gone (by this time you will have a HUGE white cloud of smoke rolling down the street) believe it or not the trans fluid will eat up most if not all of the carbon in the motor and it will run like new afterward, id imagine you could dump some into the gas tank as well with a fullt ank of gas and it would probably clean everythign out as ive never tried it before, but its alot cheaper then the seafoam, make sure you change the 02 sensor and oil and oil filter after doing this BTW.

thought id throw that in real quick, old mullet trick (ive got a 64 lincoln continental)

Will cleaning out the carbon from your engine using seafoam etc. damage your catalytic converter? Can't help thinking that all the smoke coming out of the exhaust might clog the honeycomb in the cat.

um, is it good enough to just pour the Seafoam down the throttle body instead? I can't find the break booster hose that fits your description. Or the line coming from my short ram intake good enough?

I used a squirt bottle (like the squeeze ketchup bottles at cheap restaurants) and did that right into the throttle body. If your throttle body is horizontal, some may drip out so do it slowly or have plenty extra.

I cant find the Seafoam carbon cleaner anywhere. I checked NAPA, which only had the TB cleaner "Deep Creep" (is this the same formula just with a spray nozzle?) and auto transmission cleaner, Autozone, and Kragen. Nobody has it. NAPA said they used to carry it, but nobody was buying it so they sent it back =(

Berryman B-12 Chemical stuff looks to be very similar, anyone know if this is the same thing?

Ok this seems like a good idea for my car.. but I was wondering something. I dont know if my piston rings are worn or if its my valve seals but my car burns some oil, not that much but still... So do you think doing this will make it worse? If yes, I wont do it cuz my engine runs pretty good except the small oil burning. btw it has 207k km (about 130k miles).you guys are a great source of info!!thanks for the help

I did this same deal to my car....running a top engine cleaner through the brake booster line.

It made a HUGE difference on my 123k mileaged S14, and my engine is actually rather clean in the first place.

For those who can't find the brake booster line....it's actually really obvious. :) You know that circular box that is on the driver's side of the firewall? See the vacuum line held on by a little clamp? That's it. Just pull it off (it'll make a satisfying popping-whooshy sound as the air is released) and go to town with your cleaner.

The restored power and peace of mind at having clean fuel injectors and less carbon deposits in your engine is well worth the very minor effort of this task.

You guys all talk about this magical Sea foam product, but I have yet to see it ANYWHERE. Please post a direct link so people like me can buy it online. :)

Anyone looking for Seafoam go to NAPA, Pep Boys, Shucks, or any dedicated car parts dealer of this magnitude. They should have this stuff, if you don't see it, ask. They might have run out. If they don't carry it then see if you can special order it. You should be able to....

You might also try a marine repair/parts shop if there is one near you. The product lable says Seafoam auto & marine, so it might help.

the words "carbon cleaner" should be bold in the list of uses on it.

and it doesnt have a spray nozzle.

Im pretty sure that the Deep Creep is a lube.. doesn't it have a spray nozzle on it? Anyway, the Auto/Marine one is the one you want. It should also have a Red Label... (Deep Creep is blue?) and a regular screw on style cap.

When you put it through the vac line remember to keep the car at a high idle for a while (1500-2000). I let mine run for 20 min with the AC on, keeping idle at ~1000rpm. It wasn't enough. When I was going to leave I blew cloud of crap onto my friend's Tacoma and left a trail 1/2 a mile down the road before it stopped completely. Great way to get attention:rolleyes

Thor! you mention about:"1. Pour it into your valve cover - as if you were adding oil. This only effects the oil...change the oil and oil filter."

about the valve cover....is it the whole that usually add the engine oil you talking about?and you say change the oil and oil filter...... when? after drive sometime or change it right away?

Yes thats the hole.

and you say change the oil and oil filter...... when? after drive sometime or change it right away?

From his post it looks like you want to do it when you have gone through about 1 tank of gas, so timing things to your normal oil change might be beneficial.

I left mine in for a little longer than a tank, but I didn't use as much seafoam as Thor said. It says to use less on the bottle, but I think its just to protect themselves from people leaving it in for 3000 miles.

I used it and my car feel s like it runs smoother now.

I did it with only 90,000 mile on my car I think thor had well over 150k. The difference after using it wasn't "night and day" (the car is in amazing shape) but I feel it did make a difference. As far as gas milage... I have a heavy foot so it's hard to tell, but I'm sure it has been helping.

on my ka24de, i have had trouble finding the RIGHT vacum line to pour it down, some guy told me to pour it down this black line that is hooked up around the base of my air intake (as in closer to the throttle body) BUT i just want to make sure/doublecheck before i put it down the wrong line.....

Does anyone have a pic of their ka24de? so they can point out the vacum line to me?

The throttle body is what your intake tube connects to.

that pic is of the SOHC motor.

Its the thickest black tube that runs along near the back, from the brake fluid area to the base of the intake. Can't miss it.

SKY....

The vacume line you want to use is attached to the passenger side of the brake booster. It is the largest vacume line going to it.
