has anybody had to do this yet? car threw the code for camshaft sensor bank 1. the shop told me i should probably replace both camshaft and crank sensors because they work hand in hand. would yall do both? the shop quoted me around 500 for the replacement of both. but my guess is they were quoting me replacing all three positions. maybe if i just ask them to do one, it wont be as much...

i found them online for cheap. should i buy the part and just have the shop install them? problem with this solution is if it jacks up in 6 months they probably wouldnt warranty their work.

should i take it to the dealer and see how much they charge just to get another option?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

What codes did they read? All three of these sensors are hall IC type which is basically sensing the speed and position of the camshaft/crankshaft using magnets. If you trust the shop I say go for it but make them write down that amount and you sign off on it. It's labour costs. To replace the camshaft sensors you have to take the entire plenum assembly off. To replace the crankshaft you need to get under the car (it's near the oil pan on passengers side). Plus they need to clear the codes and test. I'm not sure of the logic behind replacing all three. The codes should be the key. Jump over to autozone and have them read the codes then post them here.
For example Camshaft are p0340,345 for phase meaning the square wave distances are not in sync with the two camshaft and crankshaft. The easiest is to replace all three, however they have to see if there are bits missing on the existing sensors because those bits can get stuck in the sensor gaps on the camshafts mucking up readings with new sensors.

yea autozone told me it is the cam shaft sensor and bank one. the shop told me that they highly recommend replacing both bank one and two. infiniti told me that is absolutely false, you dont have to replace both. so the shop quoted me 175 to replace just the one sensor and labor.

do yall recommend replacing both?

Please post the actual codes they read so we can provide you with better opinions. And to be clear the vq35 engine has two camshaft sensors bank1 and bank2 plus the crankshaft sensor. All three work together. I believe the v8 also has the same.

As I originally posted it could be a chipped sensor with peices lodged in the sensor gap. Have them provide you with a quote which you both agree upon which includes replacing all three sensors and a warranty. To be fair ask talk to the shop about this and ensure they'll clean it out if this is the case.

If yours is M45 then there's no camshaft sensor bank 1. Read these for a clearer picture.

Thanks i appreciate it. i'll admit i am terrible with the search function. i dont know why.

So if i read everything correctly, the VTC is the one that has the two banks.

the camshaft and crank sensor are are just two separate parts that dont have banks.

if i replace the camshaft sensor then i should also replace the crank sensor as well?

did i get that right?

Thanks again so much!

Yes. Replace the two to be sure. It's the same sensor anyway--dubbed crankshaft sensor.

^ if you're getting an oil leak from the cam sensors, then it's the small rubber gasket that sits around the sensor that might have gone bad. Or you may need to tighten the 10mm bolt that holds the sensor in place. are you getting any codes or ruff idle??

I've changed both Cam sensors and the crank sensor - very easy to do... I got my parts over at a local autoparts store...

@reggiebad1. It will be helpful if you could tell us what specific codes were pulled. Then again, it's usually safer replacing with oem sensors.

If you are talking about the 06 M45 in your profile, then you're probably barking up the wrong tree. The V8 has only one of each.
See this link: infiniti-v8-p0340-p0335-camshaft-and-cr ... 16654.html

But yes, posting the code and vehicle specifics is the best way to get help.

Codes man, we need the codes. We have no idea what we're attempting to fix here.

Guesswork gets expensive. Just look at the printout AutoZone should have given you and type up what the numbers are. It's a P followed by 4 digits most probably.

Then confirm what kind of car you're dealing with. V6 or V8
