Anything can be had for enough money...it's just that costs accelerate quickly as tolerances decrease linearly. I assume racing engines are built to tighter tolerances. For a straight rebuild, a lot of the difficulty is in measuring what you have, since factory parts are available (they do the hard stuff). Think bearings for instance. The fact that 3 conrod bearing sizes are available from the factory, each .0001" apart from one another, doesn't do you any good if your measurement accuracy is .0002". .0001" is hard to fathom in the real world....about 1/35th paper thickness. In most manufacturing fields, measuring tighter than .001" feels kind of like measuring cost in fractions of a cent.

He says it was the suspension. Unless you launched smoothly, the arse-end would step sideways and then enter the "death sway", back and forth until it either:

a) caught tractionb) you backed off like a pussc) spun out

I like those kinds of choices. For what it's worth, the stock transmission held up to quite a bit of track time and lots of daily driving (6 months).

FYI - We need to research the feasibility of some "extensions" for the injector wires (like 3-6" each). This may be a simple as some ghetto splicing and heat shrink, unless someone has a better idea.

the death sway.. nice.

The best is psycho steer.. it happened on old caddys.. I forget where I saw the pic.. it was like oversteer, understeer, and then PSYCHO steer..

I dunno how you could expect it to do anything but the death sway.. 380RWHP is insane... The XJR with 300RWHP is fericous off the line, in 1st gear.

May be one case, where you actually want the 2nd gear start. Again, the XJR has this, and it makes it way more driveable around town and such.

Traction blues can always be cured with a nice FAT set of Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3s ;) . Something to fit say an 18x9.5" rim should do...

Greg, I take it the BAD Q was run on stock rims/stock tire widths, no?

Wonder why he'd take off the heads and not replace them? It's not like you can run down to NAPA and buy modified heads and cams for a VH45DE.... Hmmmmm..... Strange.

Here is Troy's response on his Q45 mod....I sent him a link to our website asking him to check us out to help spread the wealth of knowledge on modding the Q....I don't know if he is referring to the SC or the Turbo....to me is sounds like he "turbo" the Q

"i used a supercharger off of a nissan 300zx installed with some seriously intense fabricating of the intake and exaust system ... as for relaibility i do not know as of yet as we are waiting for some finialized parts ... im expecting a bhp rating os somewhere in the mid to upper 400's. i would not attempt this mod again or suggest it to anyone alive! but the car has started and ran responsive during the inital test, which also yeilded the need for a stronger bracket system to be made which is what im waiting on now .. thanx for your intrest "

I still don't understand the removal of the heads....

Sounds like a turbo setup to me as well...

It definitely is a turbo setup... but a turbo is a a type of supercharger.

In any case, the increased heat can't be good for his engine if it's going to be used as a daily driver. Very interesting project nonetheless. Might this be the first turbocharged North American Q45?

He says he will be joining NICO shortly and detailing his project further... I can't wait to hear some more about it!
