Post

A week in the G-35S and driving some 450 miles so far as normally as i can has produced some miserable under 20 mpg mileage. At what point does the MPG start to attain a norm ?

I guess I am spoiled driving my Lexus SC 430 2 seater with 20/27mpg and that is not an elder foot on the gas either..............can't wait to open the G up on the twisties with the paddles but I am holding off until at least 1000 miles on the clock

Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

hehehe. My G gets an average of 16.9 in town, and 22.5 - 23 on the highway. I drive it about as easy as one can.

The dealership tells me that at about 10,000 things improve, but I can't say for sure. Gs aren't known for their economy.

well first off welcome to nico...

and that gas mileage thing, well the G doesn't have that stellar gas mileage we all hope to have. It's one of the downsides of owning such a great car though...

you gotta give to get... see what i'm sayin?

Gas mileage fluctuates during the break in period, which is 1200 miles I believe...somewhere around there and from then on it should start to even out. However, you should expect to get at most 17 or 18 MPG in city driving, 23-26 MPG on the freeway (23 around a city with acceleration/braking, ~25 cruising at 80). The Lexus isn't a sports car, the G is.

Yes, the Lexus SC430 is a sports car

And as far as gas mileage, it really depends on your driving style. I average around 19 in the City. about 23-25 on the Highway...and I drive pretty hard.

The Lexus is not a sports car...if you tell me that a car with a V-8 producing 288 HP is a sports car, I dunno. Its a tourer, but not a sports car.

And the Lexus is rated at 16/23 MPG.

That 430 is very effecient. It can get well over 25 mpg on the highway. At 80 it only idles at about 2k rpms Most of our Gs rev at over 3k rpms.

the motor is only .8 of a litre bigger than the G35. But that lexus has something like 360 lbs ft tq. makes it fast off the line!

and sport it is. Very fast and fun car. You get lots of looks with the top down too!

That is still my favorite Lexus

On the MPG subject! I get about 23-27mpg. In the city i get about 22mpg and on the highway i get 26-29 mpg. If you drive it nice you can get good mileage! I have 41k miles on mine. I bought it with 25k miles and it was always been the same since i bought it.

Falcon 1;

Every G will get better gas mileage at diferent times. It all depends on when the car feels broken in or not. diffrernt driver behavior would account fro this. So, be patient. The design philosophy for a g-35 is fairly different from the design philosophy of a Lexus. Both a sports cars but with different attitudes made for different demographics.

And as far as opening up your G, I can tell you with confidnce that once you are done with the break in period of about 1,500 miles, start flogging the car. Trust me, Infiniti engines are unusually good at being driven hard on first day. The earlier the car starts adjusting to being flogged, the longer the car will last and the less problems you will have in the future with the car. All G-35s are prone to issues and problems when they are babied. It maybe the same for other cars as well---I dunno. A part reason for this is that the design of infinitis and more recently, Nissans, are more and more being based on the design philosophy and thought process used in the design of the Nissan Skylines. The skyline is feared and respected for its reliability under abuse. such a car was not designed for babying. BMWs and Mercedes Benz's are sought of like that. So you know, I once saw a Mercedes C230 with 230,000 miles put on it in 3 years with minimal-to-no routine maintenance, and the car still ran very well. The owner was a dufus head who made such a classy car look like a taxi. He lived in one state and worked in the other. That is how good these cars are if they are run hard and extensively.

By the way, before the federally mandated ethanol gas hit our gas stations, under normal driving, with the modifications i have on my car, I think I was probably achieving 25 - 27 miles per gallon on the highway, while I achieved 19 - 22 MPG in city driving, under normal driving. I have the spacer, JWT short ram cold air intake, Mrevv2, and Stillen TD cat back exhaust. The mods did help improve gas mileage.

Is there a test or something to back that up? The G hasn't been out for a long time, how could you test such a thing? My G runs perfectly fine, yet I don't flog it all the time nor do I baby it all the time. 230,000 miles over 3 years is like 210 miles/day...that's a 3 hour drive at 70 MPH every day...who does that?

Thanks to all on your comments and suggestions on the MPG question. I did not buy the G-35 for an economy care that is for sure........FUN PER MILE is my mantra as 63 and always has been for most of my life.

I can see just at 500 miles that this G-35S is a winner in many respects and at a price I could have bought 2 of them fully equipped for what I paid for my departed Benz E500 Sport Sedan.

For those who have not driven a Lexus SC 430 it will be hard ot choose making the 600 mile trip down I-75 as to which car I take..........nothing comes close to the A/C, Stereo and power that Lexus puts out at 80+ on the blacktop...............on the twisties though the G will eat its lunch.

Thanks Again for your comments.

Smockers;

Yep! the guy was driving in the neighborhood of 4 hours a day to get to work. I know it sounds ridiculous, but this guy has been doing this all this time.

As for the g, try flogging it routinely and you will see how differently it behaves. Just give it a try.

I posted this in a thread before, but a friend of mine has always driven his cars harshly from the very first time he drove it. And he has never had any reliability issues. He has owned quite a few cars and he believes in driving it like its stolen from day one. I've used his approach on my first 3 new cars I've purchased and have been very satisfied. To each his own though. My friend waited almost 3k miles to open up on his WRX. I did a little browsing on the net and their are good voices for each side. When I went to test drive my G the sales manager let me take out 3 BRAND new G's with less than 5 miles on them. He said WOT was fine and they were not demo models.

Hmmmm I didn't know gas milage was affected by the break in period. Never had a new car. Guess I learn something every day here.

And at 288 hp i think that could be considered a sports car. Thats not too far off the specs of a GT mustang.

sorry champ, i dont care what you say, lexus has never made a sports car. i have driven their lineup of sedans including the IS350 and none of them had ANY personality. They all worked like appliances. If you call a sports car, any car that goes fast and is quiet at 80, then have met the latest Kia Optima? What about a Honda Accord? Those seem to fit the criterea very well. If the SC was a sports car, then why is it going after the orange crowd of florida, (traded in the 5th deville for something new)? Why do only women drive them? URGH. I. HATE. LEXUS even though the pops drives one. give me a used BMW anyday over a brandnew lex.

Im NOT on this one!

I have to disagree with you on this one! Have you seen the IS F... Guess NOT!

In High school i had an Is 300 and I had friends with 330ci BMW's that couldn't catch me! I would run circles around all the 3 series BMW's with my lexus. I also had over 100k miles on mine and my friends BMW's where New!

And the money you spend on a BMW to fix you could have bought two ISs'

I have to agree with the quailty of a lexus. And there is something to be said about the power at 80 of a lexus V8... I can't wait for the SC to have the 380 hp 460 motor. Lexus Just had much more tech behind everything they make!

I mean look at infinit and lexus. They will be getting like 380 out of a 5.0L motor... Lexus gets it out of a 4.6L.... and when you look at ford with 300 out of a 4.6L That is really Crap!

My G is a great car.. But the quality isn't as good as my lexus! I have 41k miles on mine and I have put in a transmission and 2 clutches. Never ever had a trans problem with my lexus.

I know fords are known for the first break down at 5-7k miles... Right about when the Lexus and Infinit is being broke in!

oh lexus, why wont you make a car i want to buy?!?! im sorry, the IS-F is a joke of a car. looks like it was sponsered by pepboys. that body kit? are you kidding me? plus, why would they settle on 417 hp from that 5.0L V8? seriously. the Audi RS4, MB C63, and BMW M3 are all in that ball park but with much better packages. Thanks for the effort lexus, but youve missed the mark.

not to mention that the SC has been heralded worldwide as one of the ugliest cars ever. the interior is nice, but man is the exterior ugly. reminds me of the old saying for some women, "beautiful body, with a face to guard it."

I am no fan of Lexus. I actually hate Toyotas. But I would never drive a Bmw either. I'd rather drive a Buick then a BMW. You can say im stupid or have no taste in cars, but I love me a Buick. Specially regals or old skylarks. Plus the parts are way cheaper then those german cars or even our G35s.

I think you must be a X BMW owner

You always think your car is the best!

Im going to say it for you...

Your INFINITI G is the best car in the world. You can't buy a better, faster, nicer, more expensive, more efficient, more reliable, better looking, or better preforming car than a 2006 G35 Coupe

Get a Grip. Lexus builds cars for a certain class of people or people that are sick of the expense of a German car. More people buy Lexus and never go back to any other make of car like MB, BMW, AUDI, JAGUAR because of that factor alone.

In the US Lexus sells more cars than MB BMW AUDI JAGUAR Put Together and there is a good reason for that, They make great cars... The same goes for TOYOTA vs Honda, KIA, Hyundai, ford, GM, Nissan, DC.

They just make the best car! I would love to see a BMW or Audi with 500k miles on original motor and trans... It won't happen and if it does not very often... You can do that with any Lexus that is taken care of!

Nissan and Infiniti is the only company that comes close to Lexus in Quality and Dependability

Guys- I did not mean to get the SC 430 into a brawl here but I would like to make some comments............

Since I am 63 and still skydive (with aches) this old POP has owned his share of fast cars including Porsche Carrera 2, Old 442 and three Infiniti cars since they came out........that being said, the Porsche, BMW and Benz that I have had all were great cars but spent way too much time in the Dealerships in their time with me..............The J 30T and two FX models spent little time and in 6 years the SC 430 has spent NO TIME other than oil changes.Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I see the SC 430 as one of the classiest cars on the road and always get head turning and comments wherever I go. I never got that from the BMW and Benz...........they all look generic to me.I am sure the G 35S in White will be a head turner as well and a nasty car on the twisties...................Hope the dealership see as little of it as the Lexus does.

haha, actually, no bmw at all. ive had a cadillac, an acura, and this. the rents have had cadillacs, acuras and infinitis as well. having just gotten my car back from 3 weeks at the dealer, im not saying mine is reliable. the G interior is dimestore in comparison to any lexus interior. my point was that lexuses arent sports cars. that being said, my dad couldnt be happier with his car. its perfect in comparison to his previous luxury cars and its never at the dealer. im sure it'll last forever, much to my chagrin.

didn't mean to start a war, just wanted to clarify.

Well I think I understand the difference between Lexus and infiniti

Lexus put luxury first then sports... More people like this

Infiniti puts sport first then luxury.... Infiniti drivers buy infiniti for the sport not the luxury! If we bought an Infiniti for the luxury we could have bought a lexus and been just as happy.

Most Infiniti drivers like the Sport First!... I love the sport first at times and I wish i had more luxury at other times.

When i bought my G That time i wanted Sport... You know what I mean?

No problem, I just want to see all you younger guys be happy with the wheels you have regardless of what they are...............I have the wisdom of picking battles I know I can win, that being said I like to make sure that we all know how lucky we are here in the USA to be driving great cars regardless of brand. In some areas the folks will never know from a Lexus or Infiniti or even a car.............You are correct , when my wife chose to rid us of her Benz knowing the luck I had with the Lexus she took me down to drive the IS 350.............knowing my judgement is tops when it comes to wheels I borrowed the IS as a day loaner and took it to the Infiniti dealer down the road and test drove the G35S with her..............back to back there was no contest in my testosterone laden brain.............now she agrees with me and IF I decided today to leave the SC I would personally get a G-35 or G-37 S for myself.

indeed, although i do loves me some 2002 Q45 action. Man, when that came out, it blew the world away with its headlights and interior. Luxury and sport, too bad they sold like icecubes in winter. Hope the new one will be as revolutionary.
