About a month ago I got rattle similar to what was described over here but it was nothing more than heat shield. It was loose back in 2009 and dealership tighten the screws up and the problem is gone for some time. This winter same problem appeared again so I got rid of this heat shield completely while installing new alternator belt and no more rattling :chuckle:

Leo, this is exactly what I want to do, I have absolutely had it with that flimsy noisy heat shield. Did you remove it yourself or did you have a shop do the work for you? If so, was it a simple job, ex. 0.5 hour shop time? I think there are some welds that would have to be broken otherwise I would try to remove it myself - other than annoying me I really don't think it has much of a function but I could be wrong. I'm sure this heat shield has led to many owners experiencing unnessary stress and worry and wasted dealer time investigating the problem.

You're right about online forums. As you may recall, I had myself all worked up over what I was reading on the forums. It's true, you can read and find certain trends that may be an issue with certain cars, but I've decided it's so confusing, who would really know what to do if they went on consumer postings only. For instance, on Edmunds, everyone is positive about the 2011 Rogue..all the posts are positive and it sounds like a great car. Go to KBB and it's as if they're talking about a different car. Same with the Sorento (which I test drove and love the look of)..go to the edmunds board and you'd think all the engines were blowing up at 70 miles per hour when reading through the consumer discussions, but the reviews seem positive when reading on Kelly Blue Book. You'd think it was the best car on earth or something. The sorento has numerous complaints with the fed. saftey organization for transmission failures since changing over to 6 speed, but like I said, it depends where you read, what sort of interpretation you may leave with. I wanted, at one time, the Ford Edge and have only seen glowing reports for the most part on Edmunds. But I was reading somewhere else recently that totally trashed the car. Also, the crv is taking a beating, which surprises me, but everyone holds Honda to such a high standard, I guess. Anyway, all this to say, you're right Kerrton, if you read the blogs and forums, it can totally drive you crazy trying to decide what car is actually reliable. I've had a while with my rogue, and I have to say, after initially wanting to get rid of it as soon as I got it, I am really enjoying this car right now...especially the gas milage. If the car develops a squeak or a harmless rattle, I wouldn't be pleased, but I think I would do whatever I could to eliminate the small issues and focus on what I like about the car...which is great gas milage, enough room, and comfort. I'm glad I found this forum though, because level heads prevailed and helped me calm down about what I was reading on the other forum and it kept me from taking a huge loss and getting an Edge...which may or may not be one of the best cars on the road, depending on which forum you read. :gapteeth:

Well put PlatinumGraphite.

It is very difficult to wade through all the information and there are just so many different vehicles to consider and so much information it can be overwhelming. I'm glad you didn't take a big loss getting rid of the Rogue too, the Edge may have been a great vehicle, or it may have been a lemon, most likely it would've been similar to the Rogue in terms of quality with slightly more cargo and passenger room and significantly worse fuel efficiency, at a very high cost over sticking with your Rogue. The fact is, every time you purchase a vehicle there is always an element of risk involved, albeit very low considering high standards of modern vehicles relative to a few decades ago.
