Trying to feel out the versa community here to see what the number are like if you guys would be interested in a Short throw shift kit? Post away and let me know.

Also in any MT versa's in the lower mainland BC area want to stop in and let me have a look under the hood. Test cars always get free parts

I'm sure there is some interest. Would it keep the stock ability of the reverse unlock and an estimated cost?

reverse lockout would not be effected. est cost is $120. but like I said I still need a car to look at to confirm. I'm hoping our soon to be released Spec v STS will either fit or only require mild modification

We know the MR20 engine has the same clutch so would assume that shifter is the same/close, but the QR25 may be entirely different. For availability sake I hope they are close.

This was my first question on the board back when I got my car (and when NICO versa was just starting). I would love to add a short throw onto the V. It would add to the "fun" factor of driving the car.

Me personally? No. I don't really see a point to it either. Is it really necessary to reduce shift time on an economy car? It's not like it's a transmission set up to be some crazy, fast shifting high speed ratio gearbox. It's setup to be economical to a point, while still being able to achieve decent acceleration for merging. It's not a very strong transmission either. Most non sports car 6 speeds aren't.

Until some more serious wear and tear testing is done on the V transmission, I wouldn't go jumping in on buying something for an integral part like the transmission. Plus, why would you want to void your cars warranty just so you can shift faster in an economy car?

FYI, just expressing my opinion/view. Don't act like I punched your sister in her face.

To take some bitterness away from Mr. Devil's post, a joke.

A man walked up to a pirate who had a steering wheel as a belt buckle. The man asked, "Why do you have a steering wheel as a belt buckle?", to which the pirate replied, "Arrgh, it's drivin' me nuts."

8 interested and 1 not.

Have you ever heard of a short shifter voiding a car's warranty? That's a serious question, for a serious topic, on a serious forum.

And now for a clever smiley to really "drive" my point through.

I can answer a couple:

The company is linked in his signature.Group buy is probably the $120 or so, but no price can be set until they make it or atleast see what it'll take.I've never installed a STS on FWD, so I'll leave that alone, but can't be too hard.

If it's anything like the TWM one for the sentra spec v, you can expect this http://www.twmperformance.com/...l.pdf

The company is Racingline Performance. we primarily focus on the Altima's but are starting to venture out slowly. So if you guys have anything in particular that your looking for let me know. don't ask for turbos, headers and stuff of that nature as it's a little out of our scope at the moment.

Price at retail would likely be 115-130. GB would be a little less.

install is straight forward and can be done in under an hour. I can do our altima STS in about 20 min

I'm a little confused. It appears there are 2 different kits for a short shifter? The one that I linked for the spec v where you take the battery and stuff off and put some plates down and an actual shaft that you replace with the stock one? What's the difference?

every car is different. But more cars with a reverse lock out will use the adapter style kit similar to TWM and ours. To make an actual shifter assembly that retains the lockout would be quite expensive and would offer no real advantage over the adapter style. it takes longer to install typically as well.

Another question, would you have any idea (if the short shifter fits for versa hatch), that it would fit a 1.6 5 speed?

Im interested.

See how much easier it was to get almost 15 members for this when the price is right and it took the people buying the intake manifold like a year. Its crazy what happens when the price is right.

OK........I am DEFINITELY not doing this to ruin others peoples feelings about this shifter, but here goes.....

Why would someone pay $120 for a piece of machined metal?

wait...wait...wait...wait...

Before anyone wants to tell me off, just hear me out....

When I had my 95 Civic Hatchback a year ago, I installed a short throw shifter on her, and not for 1 cent over $50. I know there are not alot of items out for our V's yet, and yes, im glad that there is an abundance of people wanting the short throw shifter (although I got an automatic cause my woman cant drive standard and doesnt want to learn ) but I think for the price of $120 as a group buy is rediculous!!

I would rather buy rocks from the frog in my front lawn than to buy a piece of machined metal for $120! And not only that, I reallly didnt feel a big difference in shifting between stock and short throw. When I first took a Versa SL 6 speed out for a test drive, I found the gearbox and the whole shifting experience a pain in the arse, my previous Civic shifted cleaner and more precise stock!!

The only thing you gain out of buying a STS is looks and feel of a true race car.

BUT....I AM NOT DEMEANING THE IDEA!!

I think its great to have a STS for the V, but for $120, thats way overpriced!!

And in regards to Skim302 comment:

"See how much easier it was to get almost 15 members for this when the price is right and it took the people buying the intake manifold like a year. Its crazy what happens when the price is right."

Man, seriously, your willing to pay $120 for a piece of machined metal. Something that robotics create. It doesnt involve sweat, blood and tears. And it doesnt even give you a gain in anything!!! You dont need to tune it. You dont need to do the math. You dont need to run the dyno's to see if your hard work is paying off. The reason people dont want to spend $700 on an Intake Manifold is basically because they cant justify spending a heck of alot of money! I seriously make $250 a day from February to November each year, and I am not afraid to spend nearly $1000 to up my HP to 141 not counting Header and Intake gains, but to say that a piece of metal is worth $120, I think is idiocricy. Should be hovering around $60 - $75 for group buy.

All in all, I hope you guys can get a lower price for your STS's, the idea is cool and I am hoping to see alot more mods in the near future but would you like to pay $4 for a SNICKERS? I would rather pay my $1 and $1.57 for the biggy sized ones. Out

without going into a rant or anything like that, one thing you need to keep in mind is that your old civic shared drivetrains with with every civic from 92-2001, plus every integra ever produced. The world wide numbers alone mean you can make 1000's if not 10,000 of those shifters, which will save alot of money, and you'd likely make them in taiwan or china. Do you really think any company can sell more than 100-200 versa shifters within 1-2 years? plus I doubt your $50 dollar shifter was a brand name or domestically made. I mean look up the cost of a B&M shifter. I don't think they make anything from under $150.

P.s I never said the GB price was $120. I'm retailing the altima and sentra STS's for 130. to only knock off $10 in a GB is redundant.

Take your civic shifter to a machine shop and ask them to duplicate it and make just 10 of them. see how much it costs then.
