separation of church and state.
i believe this is in the constitution because the English monarchy and the Church of England were as one. as to not follow england's bad example, the writers of the constitution deemed that a separation of religion and secular matters would prevent corruption between the two. think about it, what if you go to church and you hear the priest talking some kind of propanganda; i.e. , about how we should all vote for so and so because he was chosen by God, or whathaveyou.
anyhow. i think the 'time for reflection' or 'pauses' after the pledge of allegiance/etc should and can be good enough. besides, i never knew any kids throughout my gradeschool years that prayed in school or even desired to.
