Dcaff, I wanted to do a shaker set-up but I think most cars that use that system have engines that sit much lower in the chasis. The top of my carb is even with the hood. Im sure with time and effort I could design and fab the shaker, making it look right is another huge undertaking. Fit, flow, form, and not taking anything away from th natural lines of the Z. Im leaning towards fabricating a cowl scoop but I dont like the way they look when installed. So I cant decide and Im already over my paint sceme also. work work work

I hear ya man, the lower plate would have to actually drop down I'd assume to give room for the scoop to have volume for air flow, but be low profile enough to not stick up too high above the hood.
I've played this through my mind from considering the VK56 swap potential, as it would also stick up similarly high I assume and would require some kind of intricate work to make it look right. Keep playing with it man, I like watching you go!

With the popularity of high rise swaps one would assume a cowl inducion hood would be out there for sale. But for now I guess you have to build one.

Jegs looks to have a bunch. Maybe a smaller air filter or an oval shaped one would help you with the fit.

Nice conversion :dblthumb:

And to answer your question about the sound of the exhaust, it's because of your built-in microphone. You'll need an external mic to get the frequency response and sensitivity you want to capture an exhaust sound.

No blending on this job. I had to rework a flat, outer flanged scoop for the curvature to be tight. I'm going to build an inner flange for a bolt down scoop, paint it(along with repainting the entire car), and bolt it on. Glassing it on, I guarantee cracks in less than two years. I've seen it many times when dissimilar materials with different expansion/contraction rates are molded together and heat is applied. I guess I'm going full roller this time. It only took around $7000 in rebuilds to learn my lesson. Big blocks plus flat tappet cams = nightmares. Here we go again, if it fails this time I'm cutting the block in half with a torch.

Well, that's one way to tell her who's boss. Well, seems like you got it handled, any explanation as to why you keep snappin cams?

I wouldn't say I've ever snapped a cam, but I have wiped 3 cams total. When dealing with flat tappet camshafts, if at any point the lifter stops spinning in its bore, your f***. And there are about a million things that can wipe out a big block cam(bad break in, low oil pressure, burrs in the lifter bore, idling below 1000 rpms even once, and many more!). For every 1 professional engine builder that says it's never happened to them I'll show you 100 builders that have had it happened MULTIPLE times. I actually don't know what happened, this lifter was smoked and two others had stopped spinning and started the lobe wiping process, but it cost me all my bearings I'm sure. Yeah, another rebuild!

Well I found a big block roller core. I'm fully rebuilding this engine with all new parts, stroking to a 496, and plan on having it back on the road by the 1st of the year.

OMMFG...more Chevy fun. My favorite Chevy moment was viewing a 427 a guy had been racing that had blown the whole DS front corner off the block when the usual low-end failure came and touched off a symphony of destruction.
