Just scrolled through your build and noticed you are using a PowerFC. Didnt notice anything about a FC Dataloggit though. Are you tuning yourself or just getting it done at a shop? If you dont know what FC Dataloggit is, but i'm sure you do, heres the link http://rx-7.com/store/rx7/fdecu.html , about halfway down. I've got a PowerFC and will be tuning mine before taking it to the dyno.

I am no longer going to run the PFC. I'm going with the AEM EMS now.

Let me know how you like it :) I'm wanting to eventually go that route considering every gauge I own is AEM.

I never got to use the PFC much honestly. So I don't think I could be much of a help here, lol. I switched mainly because more tuners are familiar with the AEM than the PFC here in the NW.

Makes sense... it doesn't get tuned by itself. I've had a hard time finding a reputable PFC tuner in my area. Sick build by the way.

Same here. The only Apexi cert. place in the whole state is no longer in business, lol. And thanks! :bigthumb:

Well, the shims are basically done! All I need to do now is deburr them and get them into the oven for heat treating!

Update:

Went to the drag strip recently for some shakedown passes. Only got 3 passes before having to park due to smoking too badly. Turned out I was an idiot and didn't keep an eye on my oil catch can. It overfilled back into my intake... lol.

Anyways, fastest pass I had an "ok" launch, but missed 3rd gear badly (took me a sec to get it into 3rd after missing it). So I only ran a 12.1 @ 114 mph. Oh well, next time should be better.

Image

After I finished cleaning the oil out of everything from the air filter to the intake ports on the motor (took way too damn long!), I checked my rocker arm/cam clearances to see if I still needed to modify something to get them within spec (noisy son of a bishez!). Well, they all were either within spec or a tad tight, but that's good in my book! So all I need to do now is install my new AIC valve and drive around like an idiot to finish seating my rings. As soon as those are good, I will be giving PSI a call to set up my tuning appointment!

Bad news, oil seals went out on the Garrett turbo. I won't be going with them anymore. It only has 15k miles on it!!! So the tuning money will have to spent elsewhere now, due to that, so the car will not be ready to go until next spring now... *sigh*...

I have Tomei 260 ProCams (12mm of lift) with Tomei Solid Lifters. I installed everything myself. The best tip I can give is make absolutely sure you measure the gap between the test shims and the cams perfectly. Otherwise, it's a walk in the park. I have not dyno'd the car with the current setup. With a 100% stock OE longblock (stock head gasket, cams, everything) with 200k on the odo, but with the full-race kit I have, I made 342whp/336wtq on a mustang dyno at 4500 ft elevation. I also had a terrible tune. The car is MUCH faster now, but I don't have numbers, lol.

The solid lifters are very noisy, lol. I never got to rev it over 7k (still breaking in the motor), so I couldn't tell you up top.

Well, I took the car over to PSI in portland today to get the engine bore scoped.

Looks like the shop that put together the bottom end didn't know what the hell they were doing... it seems like they only honed the bottom end and did not bore it to fit the 0.5mm over sized pistons in it. It seems that the pistons are damaged beyond repair and I am losing 75% of my compression through cracked rings. So I am going to be pulling the motor soon-ish and am going to just swap in my stock long block with the good cams for now to get it back on the road... I guess I shouldn't have cheaped out with what shop I had do the machine work and assembly on the rotating assembly.

Don't worry, the build will continue, lol. I'm ordering CP pistons soon, and am in the process of looking for another short block.

Hate to hear that the machine shop screwed up. What are your thoughts of approaching them with these findings (in a professional way that is) and asking them to help with the rebuild costs?

Well, I am not going to contact them until I take the motor apart for a more accurate picture of what happened. There is only so much you can tell from a bore scope. The main thing I want to do is measure the bore of the motor. I can't exactly point a finger at them until I have concrete proof. After that, all I can do is just send them pictures and the story of what happened and see how much they stand behind their work. If they do, then I'll ask for parts replacement, but I'll get the work done somewhere else. If they don't, then I'll make sure every enthusiasts who asks me about them will know not to go there. Sucks, but you move on. I don't give up on projects over things like this. Especially since I've been working on this car for 7 years! lol

Well, here's an update, lol. A couple of pics of me pulling out the motor:

Image

Image

Image

Image

I have CP 9:1 86mm pistons coming in the mail, and I picked up a Greddy intake manifold. Using my original long block for the second build (the one that I ran the 11.9 with). It still has great compression and is in awesome shape. Going to just do a finishing hone on the cylinders and use the stock 86mm size pistons to save some money on machine work. Still going to deck it of course (for an MLS HG), and I am going to do some other tweaks to it. Going to also pick up an Ishihara-Johnson crank scraper/baffle setup to help with oil conditions. I also have an AEM EMS sitting on my desk for when it's all back together. No more cheap bs tune...

Selling some of my Silvia front end stuff to help pay for all of this. I want the motor done right this time, lol. I want to drive my car!

Well good and bad news...

Good news is that I got my CP Pistons in today, and they look awesome!
Image

Bad news is that the guy selling them told me that they were 86mm, and they are actually 87mm. At least the CR is correct at 9:1. So now I either have to sell these and buy 86mm ones, or bore out my block to 87mm. If I do that, I might have to buy a tq plate...
