Havent seen a topic on this yet, hopefully not a repost.

But Toyota has unveiled its new Hachi roku concept.Best thing about it, is that its still going to be Rear wheel drive and is going to be light as a feather, i can see tons of aftermarket support for this thing already.

The engine is supposedly a Subaru engineered Boxer 2litre, so this thing should sound awesome

Price +/- $20,000

Enuff borings, time for the pictures.

It's got a nice silhouette and I like the tail light design. Everything in front of the A-pillar is crap, though. And the crease below/behind the door sucks. But other than that, it looks pretty dang good.

The nose needs to not slant down so much. Level it off and the car will look a lot stronger and more aggressive.

The glass A-pillars don't offer any useful visibility and would look better in body color.

Oh, last comment:Center console mounted window switches suck. I speak from experience. Put them on the door where they belong and stop trying to be clever.

Actually, real last comment:I'll believe "light as a feather" when I see it. It'll probably weight at least 3000lb.

Pretty cool how they left the A/C controls and such outside and to the side of the gauge cluster like in the '86.

The front looks TOO funky for me. The rear has the curves an IS250350. The wheels are iffy too.

if that goes thru to actual production. I wouldnt be suprised...actually i kinda would be but if nissan made something similiar. or If they just turned the altima coupe rwd or something because the Z is pushing 28k base i believe . Wonder if nissan will have say in this revival

looks pretty good. Only thing i dont care for is the headlights. They are too pointy. The whole thing resembles the genesis, but in a better way. BUUUUUT ill believe it when i see it. Always talk of bringing back the silvia and hachi but always just rumors.

Am I the only one that thinks we're never going to see this car in production? This Toyota we are talking about... They recalled 3.8M vehicles because the "carpet design was deemed unsafe'. I don't think we are going to be seeing an entry level RWD vehicle out of them anytime soon. Cool concept, yes... but nothing more than that IMO

Better than a Toyota engine these days. You can either have the Honda-wannabe 2zz that has to be wrung to hell and back for the 3hp it actually makes, or you can have the econopurposed 2AZ.

It was the drivers side floor mats. Which are probably only going to get replaced in very few cars.

This car was a joint effort between Subaru and Toyota. It was planned to be sold as an AWD subaru, think mini SVX, and as RWD through Toyota.

Last I had heard, production was stopped at the final design/post prototype stages due to the economy.

Its a cool idea, but automakers seem to have a way of screwing up the execution.

I love everything about it but the headlights, and the back half is the prettiest concept I've see in years.

The 2ZZ is a great engine for track use, which is why it's in the Elise. I like it better than the B18C5, actually. Low end is irrelevant in engines like that, so there's little point in disparaging their high-strung characteristics.

I think it'll be 2800-3000lbs. I'm really excited about it, but that zip-up dash and wacky shift knob have to go.

they need to stick to the roots i don't see any elements that resemble the original hachi

rear light would need to be pushed further down

lol at the vagina comment- it looks like it an enlarged clit-ormous

The car from 198x?Haha you must be joking, if they made this thing look anymore like the original Hachi it would be considered way too old fashioned even by 90s car design standards....its the year 2009 looking back at 198x and expecting a car to look similar is wishful thinking at best. The AE86s square design died out 100 years ago, and is never coming back.If you look at the cars profile, thats more than enough 86 homage

I think it looks pretty good, im not particularly fond of the vents/slits(?) leading into the headlights, but a simple aftermarket bumper will fix that.

True, the boxy design wouldn't appeal to anyone anymore; I do see it in the profile, but i still think the lights need to be lower.

Only new car I am thinking about getting is a nissan 370z then an R32

I think the EJ20-derived powertrain will be a good fit for this car. Those little boxer fours can spin up pretty high, and it will place the CoG lower than an inline.

The only question is will this be better than the Genesis 2.0L. It is a different approach, the Genny is more silvia-esque whereas this is more like (duh) a Hachi in that it's a little smaller and naturally aspirated.

I imagine they'll be very similarly priced.

Let's hope Toyota still remembers how to make a sports car.

Yeah, this thing and the Theta Gen are gonna be neck and neck. Both are about 20k.Both are 2 litresBoth will just be breaking 200HPBut the Theta comes turbo'd from the factoryAnd i believe the Toyobaru is gonna be lighter.

So who knows which one will win in the end.I imagine a turbo'd 86 will reach Lambda levels, but from the factory i give the Gen the advantage.

P.S The production version is gonna be unveiled early next year. My guess is by then Toyobaru will decide to put a turbo on this thing.

P.P.S

Some random very early concept pics

It kinda does cuz of the sharp lights....but Yuck is not the word i would use to describe it.The front end looks aggressive as fuuck.

Then again personal preferences are different

i think the white concept looks a million times better. the back half of it lookes retarded. and the wheels are teh ugliness. mix of genisis/skyline/scitontc to me. they should stick to the new supra and call it a day until another automaker makes another force to be reckened with.

I think it looks menacing, I absolutely love it. Imagine seeing that in your rear view mirror plus hearing the rumble of the boxer engine, that thing's gonna look and sound dangerous. I just hope Toyota doesn't water down the production version, if indeed it comes into production.

I see this thing going the same way as the Nissan GTR. They take the old legendary name and slap it on a supercar....what made the hachi roku and the GT-R's cool was the fact that they were still a passenger car that was somewhat affordable and simple. The GTS corolla was still a COROLLA and the skyline GT-R's were still SKYLINES(like a cobra mustang in the US...still a mustang but fast as hell) and a boxer 4? the inline 4 4AG motor was the heart of the 86, they should at least put another screaming longitudinal 4 banger in the car just to stick to it's roots.

this concept looks cool but does it look like a corolla? hell no, I think they should call it something else
