im not feelin it

then again i think alot of new cars look the same

it looks like a mazda 3 and a genesis coupe got together

meh im just overly critical and dont like change

too bad it will probably never be produced.

I totally agree. Based soely on first impressions... I like it. In fact, better than the Genesis, too. They should put the 2GR-FE in it.

Toyota has become like the Japanese Buick, IMO, makers of boring cars for old folks. I'd be surprised if they still remember how to make a fun/good, entry-level, RWD sports car. Or maybe that fact that they didn't remember is why they partnered with Subaru in the first place....

You forget the original 86 is from the frikkin 80s.......the original 86s' sex appeal comes from its classic design, a brand new car can never have a classic design, when the 86 came out, no one was nerdgasming over its classic/sexy looks.

Down the road in 20 some years, people will (hopefully) look back and say damn that FT86 is sexy cuz of its classic 2010 design. But at launch a car can never have that sort of sex appeal.

Expecting a 2010 car to resemble a 1980s car beyond both having 4 wheels is just silly. Abandon that idea forever.(dont bring up the Miura concept please)

The 86 had flip up lights for godsake....what were you honestly expecting? If you even try doing a design study on the classic 86 re-imagined, you can never end up with something even close to the original.

At the end of the day, i doubt the name 86 was meant to capture the substandard looks of the AE, but to capture the spirit.A light car with decent performance, thats really fun to drive.

i'm not expecting the new car to have flip up lights wtf, i'm just saying that it has no nostalgic roots to the hachi roku especially with the boxer engine. The car is cool but s*** it really has no connection with it being the new hachi roku..it just doesn't fit the character...it honestly looks like it could be a new IS coupe or something

Look at the new challenger, camaro, and mustang...when you see those cars you know that it is an evolved version of the first challenger/camaro/mustang that came out in the 60's and 70's. Are those cars identical to the original? no way. But do they have some sort of nostalgic touches to them other than a mere emblem? yes

Not enough going on for me, but then again I don't expect much in the styling department from Toyota. Hopefully, the production version will look nicer.

No motorswaps in E-Prep. Mine is a 4ag, but a totally different type of 4ag. The differences between my 4ag and the bluetops that come in 86's are night and day. Instead of 16 valves, I have 20, I have VVT, etc. My motor came from an AE111 Levin.

Yea, I had no direction with this car, so it wound up built out of any competitive category in SCCA. The car is headed to HPDE's next year and we'll see how this works out.

damn 20v motors.

friend had a white car swapped with a 20v. Fun car, made great noises.

the megasquirt wasn't tuned past 7200 rpm so it'd totally fall on it's face there.

^hm that looks a little better lol

is the 20V motor worth the swap or is it more cost effective to build the 16V?

Redtop 16V is your best bet. You can get high comp 11:5 pistons relatively cheap. Toss some cams on there, get the ITB from a silvertop 20v and the adapter plate for it from T3. Throw a heavy tune on that and you'd have one badass little monster. The power band on this will be much better than a 20v, which is ALL top end and a flat boring torque band.

I've had bluetops and redtops a plenty. I wanted a 20v because I never had one before.

What Mr1der said too.

this is basically what the guy that races locally has done... except he shaved the head down a little and such to get 12:1 comp

I had a 101 20V 4A. Only built 16Vs had any chance of catching my Levin. They always looked for a hood scoop at the next light thinking I had the supercharger.

4As are sweet little motors.

The car from 198x?Haha you must be joking, if they made this thing look anymore like the original Hachi it would be considered way too old fashioned even by 90s car design standards....its the year 2009 looking back at 198x and expecting a car to look similar is wishful thinking at best. The AE86s square design died out 100 years ago, and is never coming back.
Not entirely true, if you look at alot of cars manufactured lately the "square" designs are making their way back to the drawing table.

Look at all of Nissan's new cars, they have mutilple faceted (sp?) edges.

Boxy might be dead but something not so wind tunnel designed would be visually enticing.

This was posted in the first page of the thread but did you hear the car shift in the video...

Sounded a little to quick to be a manual shift. Also what is with the C-45?4.5L? It definitely looks like a 4 cyls though.
