Hi, all.

I have a small bunch of speeding stories - some Infiniti related, many not, some with me, some I saw. I'll post a few of the more interesting ones over time ... here is the first.

1979 or 1980. I had just graduated from college and could not afford to buy anything really spiffy. So I was toodling around in a Ford Fiesta (one of the best econoboxes made, IMHO). Heading in to work on an early Sunday morning for an emergency. Driving North out of Boston on I-93. No traffic, so I am doing 85mph (speed limit in those days was 55mph).

Just about 15 miles North of Boston, I look in my rear view mirror and see a bright yellow spec in the distance. I look away and back in a very short while - the bright yellow spec is a lot closer. A few seconds later, a bright yellow Lamborghini Countach goes by me like I am standing still. I have no idea what he was actually doing ... but my guesstimate is well over 150mph. "Oh, well. Someday I will be able to do the same" I say to myself ....

Hi, all. Here is the next story ...

1982 or so. I am driving to work in my 1980 Mazda RX-7 (just loved the Wankel engine - redline was a smooth, totally-vibration-free, 7000 rpm!) heading South on I-93 from New Hampshire. Early morning. Very light traffic. I am sorta keeping up with a Porsche 911. Both doing about 100 to 105 mph. At the very last minute, we see a Massachusetts state trooper pulled over by the side of the road at an on-ramp.

His engine is on (smoke is condensing in the cold air). Double   !

We try to slow down and still end up going by him about 85 to 90 mph - speed limit is 55 mph in those days. Trooper watches us go by. As I pass him, he raises his steaming styrofoam coffee cup to his lips and smiles at me. He doesn't come after us! Whew! ;)

Both the Porsche and I jumped off at the next exit anyway!

Fastest long trip (in a Q, of course!) was in 1992 from San Jose, CA to Mobile, AL to attend a wedding. Including all pit stops for gas and food, I averaged 120mph from San Jose to just short of the Arizona border on I-10; next day, averaged 130-135mph from there to Fort Stockton, TX (steady driving at 145mph for most of that section); the rest of the trip was more sedate - relatively speaking. Only one ticket on the way back, in Houston, TX, for doing 67mph in a 55mph zone. I was trying to get to the Infiniti dealer before 5pm for an oil change and not watching out too carefully. Oh, well ... I guess I deserved it.

The scariest moment on that whole trip was driving on a small highway North East from Austin, TX to Starkville, MS at about 90mph and having my radar detector go off in a small TX town (think it was Henderson)! I slammed on my brakes and slowed down to near 60mph just before I got zapped again. When I went by the parked local police car, he did not pull me over. The only thing I can think of was that he thought the initial reading was wrong ("no one could be going that fast down this road") and decided to re-measure. Whew! :p

I belive this is a retell of the old tale

Bout a year and a hlaf ago i took 2 new troops we just got in our shop down the anchorige , a regualr spot for everyone in fairbanks to go. Anyway were traveling down the "3" heading towards anchoridge , about halfway there is a place called "skinny ****s halfway inn" (no joke dudes) we are 37 miles outside there traveling down the mountain running 135 mph (guesstimate as speedo only goes to 125) so as were going down hill i one of the new guys sees a black hood and asks me if they make a special editon crownvictoria wth a blacked out hood , i slam on the brakes as i realized what he was describeing was the alaska state trooper car i was closeing in on , as soon as my brakes hit my radar detector went off , he got me slowing down at 105mph (im thinking the gun itself backs off at 5mph intervals when something changes speed very fast) . anyway at the same time the dector goes off his lights come on and he blows past me as im pulling off the road we sit and wait for him to turn around and pull up behind us for like 5 minutes watching him franticly work that gearshift lever to execute his 3 point u turn .

Went to court , judge asked why i did it , i said we all do some stupid stuff when were kids (room full of offenders too) , to whitch he replys "yup , i had a chevlle once with a 454 and i did that kinda stuff seeing as this is your first ticket just go to the coarse in the pamphlet show us proof you went and do 47 hours comunity service ,we will take it off your record ."

When i went to leave the court , I went to my car to find a parking ticket on the windshield turns out 3 inches of my rear bumper was in a no parking zone , 20 more bucks . now heres the kicker i made money off this deal , i took leave to do my comunity service and the military pays you exatra for food when your on leave if your a airman in the dorms so i came out 120 bucks extra

Dont speed kids

I had already figured out that the number changed on all the previous posts - same with the signature (way cool, by the way) after I started using one (did not "updates" the posts ones prior to my creating a signature).

The problem was that I did three posts (one after another) and the number did not seem to keep increasing after each post. At least, that is how I interpreted it. Then, this morning, it seemed like it went up a lot all of a sudden. I am confused  ... but then, what else is new? According to my wife, I am always confused! :freak

Does hitting 145 in a mildly modified 240Z qualify as a speeding story? On I40 in the mountains of NC in 1978? Chasing your wife in her Pantera with a three minute head start? She beat me to Knoxville, but not by much.

I can't believe the stupid things I did (and sometimes still do) and got away with.

What's this "Driving Mom's Car" stuff. Mom has a Cadillac so big it needs a Condo permit. It's like piloting a boat, a big one.

"Helmsman, Come left to 320"

"Come left to 320, Helmsman Aye!"

"Coming left to 320, sir!"

"Very well, helmsman"

"Passing 350 to the left, sir!"

"Very well, helmsman."

"Passing 340 to the left, sir!"

"Very well, helmsman."

"Passing 330 to the left, sir!"

"Very well, helmsman."

"Sir, my course is 320, answering ahead standard."

"Very well, helmsman."

And thats just a left turn. You should try parking that thing!

My buddy has a Volvo 850 Turbo, 19 lbs of boost, 3 inch downpipe, 3 inch exhaust, PES ECU, Simco hoses, anyway he never would give the Q any respect until 2 weeks ago he called me up and says lets go for a ride ( his way of saying lets run), we gather at the Silver Lane Bowling Alley to plot our course, we start on 91 south then run down Rt 9 to 84 E back out towards MA, all total about a 25 mile course, well he tried from 50 mph, 80 mph, even a little past 110 and it didnt matter the Q would just start to pull n the Volvo, it was a good run but he just didnt have the pull past 115-120, all said though we averaged about 90-135 on our late night run. Nothing like seeing 2 four door cars getting it on. :ylsuper

A couple weeks ago I was at my friends apartment playing video games, Halo for XBox, but anyway, I left at the same time as another person that was there, four in the morning. He drives a 1999 Audi A4 with the turbocharged four and I have a 1994 Q45. I pulled out right after him and floored it, and then at a stoplight I floored it again. He was trying to light a cigarette at the time so I let off the gas so he could catch up. He rocketed past me and I floored it again, catching him around 80 mph and going on to 100. This was on a public road with traffic lights and speed limit of 40. He said my exhaust sounded nice, borla mufflers and two dual tips, and also that he could take me with the car he had the next day, a porsche turbo belonging to his boss with over 600 hp. Unfortunately I was at work and couldn't race him. But, his boss just trader that car in for a new turbo with more horsepower, he's rich by the way.

For long distance speeding I drove my dad's F150 supercrew with 5.4l engine and kayak strapped to roof from Austin to my house averaging 75 mph, with a stop for gas included.

Like I said earlier, not all my stories are Infiniti-related. But still worth recalling! :)

In 1982 or so, a friend and I were heading home from a party at about 1 or 2am. Heading East on Route 128, north of Boston, Massachusetts, towards I-93 North. Friend is in 1982(?) Nissan 280Z, me in my 1980 Mazda RX-7. Speed limit is 55mph - we are both doing about 75mph - I am about half a mile (or so) ahead of him. Hardly any traffic at all.

All of a sudden, my friend comes tearing by me at high speed - with an idiot in a Mustang closely tail-gating him. Before I can really react, they are past the next curve. I get worried and speed up. Now I am doing 120mph trying to catch up. Four or five miles later, I take the 128E to 93N off-ramp at about 75mph - no sign of either car yet. I slow down, go by friend's house and see his car parked outside, so I go on home.

Next morning, I find out that my friend lost the idiot on that same off-ramp by sliding around it at close to 90mph! The Mustang tried but did not make it at that speed - that was enough to let my friend get way ahead, and stay ahead, fortunately!

couple of wks ago on my way back from PA on 287N doing 70mpg i saw a single head light coming fast in left side mirror .it was somekind of bike.Couldn't see what make it was, because of night time so when he came next to me he gunned his engine(all bikers kind of do that) and took off but at few hundered feet ahead of me he slows down and waited for me, there was very little traffic on the road but when i came little bit close he took off again. So he wanted to play Ok i thought ,its time to find out jwt ecu took off that speed limiter and how good those yoko avs are.Drop the Q in 2nd manually and slam the gas.Q like a rocket went to 100mph at 7500rpm change it to 3rd and start closing the gap, he downshifted too and start to pull away but around 150mph i started to pull next to him .I think he could not believe that a four dr car was next to him at 150mph+ now I put the car in overdrive and almost at 160mph he gave up and slowed down and and took exit .i was surprised Q still wanted to go more even at 160mph+ and the car was rock solid at that speed only thing i was hearing that beautiful exhuast note but i slow down to normal speeds. Not bad for a car with 197K and orginal tranny.jwt and yoko they both pass the test those yoko avs are so quite.Note:I just spanked a 2002 maxima for bad mouthing about Q.Don't be surprise by my name i am old member as bobbynyx.

A few months ago I was going to work the back way. I end up driving 10 miles out of my way but the road is all open highway and a great mountains pass that you can take a high speeds. So I was heading up State Route 87 out of Mesa heading towards Fountain hills.

I passed this civic with mods at about 85 and before I knew what was happening this guy had caught up to me and started to yell, scream and started to try and drive me off of the road. At this moment I knew that this guy was in all out road rage. I called 911 and the nearest police officer called my cell phone within about 45 seconds. By this time I was going from 65 - 120 - 65 trying to loose this freek of nature. I hit the bottom of the mountain pass at about 5 mph. I thought that I could loose him up the hill by horsepower alone. I pulled away from him very quickly; however he caught up with me on the downside of the pass. The officer was at the bottom of the pass waiting for us. He told me to just keep on going and that he'd take care of this punk a$$ kid.

The officer called me later that morning and said that the kid was strung out on something and was arrested. When I asked him how fast he clocked me at he just chuckled and said that was the fastest that someone had passed him without being thrown in jail.

Makes you want to get an aftermarket ECU to get rid of that rev limiter, eh?

All those experinces are great folks!!

There are some awesome experiences in here!

I was gonna give honorable mention to a couple but that would make those w/o mention feel like their stories weren't as cool which isn't true:)

Folks don't be intimidated by these hardcore stories, the bar was set pretty hi at the ebginning in the original thread too.

Post away anyway!

I will post and repost a few of mine soon too.

About 7 years ago I was driving a new Honda Civic up 107th st. in Northern Milwaukee. I was a little distracted and failed to notice the MC Cop taking readings with a laser pistol. He clocked me at 58 in a 45.

One thing lead to another, and we got off the subject of my heinous behavior and onto talking about bikes. He was into his Harley, and I had owned several prior to switching to Ducatis. Next thing you know, he is showing me how his laser gun works, and invites me back to his bike to try it out.

It was pretty bizarre to be stopped for speeding, and about 15 minutes later to be standing along side the road taking laser readings, sitting on a very cool cop's Harley. When we parted, he tore up the ticket and wished me a nice day. What a blast.

Cheers,

Dana

Just got back to Phoenix after a weekend in Tucson. Was coming onto I-10 to begin the trip home and sidled up to a clean white late 90's Vette, with aftermarket rims and a Borla exhaust. Right that minute, a new T/A (with the goofy RamAir hood) cuts him off, blows past me, and cuts into the left lane.

I drop to second, run it up to 90, and drop in next to him. Left lane traffic was slow in front of him, so he drops in behind me - TOO CLOSE. Just then, the Vette rips past me and takes up position on my front fender and gives me a friendly salute, so we're running along together blocking the interstate. The T/A guy is freaking out, going from lane to lane trying to get by. As we'd encounter slower traffic, we'd take turns letting each other through, which was really PO'ing the Guido in the Pontiac. Finally, there was an open stretch. Side by side at around 75, the Vette and I punched it - Sweeeeeet sounds from the Borla system, and he's pulling away from me VERY slowly (at first). So the T/A looks like he's gonna join in. At around 105, I notice the Q get a "second wind"(?), almost like when the VTEC on my old Civic would kick in. Anyway, I pulled back even with the Vette and had about a car and a half at 135. The T/A was no match, he was getting left behind.

The Vette guy and I ran along together all the way into Phoenix - Even got off on the same off ramp. At the light, he waved and said "That was fun - I had it buried and couldn't believe I didn't have more top end - But I'd have taken you if we'd gone past 140!" I told him I had had enough at 135, but not to be TOO sure! We both laughed and went our seperate ways... Made the trip go by REAL fast (in more ways than one).

Recycled, but...

Speaking of speeding stories and sneaking up on cops....I kind of surprised one.

On my old commute home, there is a section of half-mile straightaways, with slight turns, leading to a very tight, squiggly up-hill climb. The straights are full shoulder, passing zones, then the squiggly section has no shoulders, just a drainage ditch, dirt banks and barbed wire with fenceposts.

Well, I'm charging home, 110-120 on the straights, 90 for the curves. Hit the uphill, but the sun is real low. I see a car coming down the hill, but can't see any colors and I just ease off the accel.

Damn if it isn't a CA Highway patrol. (He has two cars behind him.)

And I'm doing 90- the little yellow sign with the curvey line says 40.

As we pass, I watch the rear view. and watch...and watch...and just a MICROsecond before I loose sight, I see his brakes come on and he pulls to the shoulder.

OH MAN, I am DEAD MEAT I think. What to do? OH $HIT..

I think, you've got seconds- he has to let those two cars pass- THINK!

So, as soon as I crest the hill I slow to 20, and I pull way over to the dirt, and actually climb the dirt bank. Hang a HARD U turn, scraping the belly on the other shoulder's ditch.

So, now I am driving back TOWARDS him.

As I now re-crest the hill, (doing 35 don't cha know) who comes CHARGING up the other side? Mr. CHP. REAL fast.

He is so focussed on trying to go fast he doesn't recognize me (or doesn't think I could turn it around- or maybe never ID'd the color?)

I just skedaddle out the way I came, and took a bit of a detour home (like 20 miles worth).

With my heart just hammering... Kind of like a cardiac stress test without the treadmill.

That was 3 years ago, I don't drive like that anymore.

Right.

This is an old post from the old website.

First, I'd like to thank Fred and SD for showing me how to get the most performance of a stock 1991 Q45a.After reading Fred's post about leaving it in 3rd gear, I decided to start changing the gears manually. Big difference in performance.

This morning at 7:50 AM, I was driving down 91 south in CT. I saw a car tailing me for about a mile and half. At first I thought it was a Hyundai but upon closer inspection, it was a Lexus IS 300.

Let me say this, I was not intending to race him. I wanted to get out of his way. But when I switched lanes, he also switched lanes. I said to myself, OK, here we go.

I dropped it into 3rd and hammered the gas. At 120 he was still attempting to follow me. So I shifted into 4th and mashed the gas. To my pleasant surprise, the Q downshifted back to third until I hit 140! Of course the Lex was toast.

However, I soon realized the brakes are not adequate for those high speeds. Nothing was damaged except the other guy's ego.

Only the time I spent on the simulator (PlayStation Gran Tourismo) prepared me for the north bound Kennedy in the wee hours one night/morning. I was not racing but the feeling of driving the Kennedy 90-125mph was exillerating.

Instead of an eight lane expressway my oft traveled route turned into a back county road. At those speeds you find out that I90 along that downtown stretch has alot of elevation changes. I was passing the few cabs that were out there doing 60 to 70mph on their earliest fares to O'Hare Field like they were parked.

The Jt was incredibly intuitive. For 10 minutes I drove the car to the max. I didn't go too fast on the longer straights (because the cops do appear there) but the sweepers (and they we're sweepers at that speed and keeping in my left lanes) were SOLID. The J30t was a cat. It's called it the "Leopard" in Japan with reason.

The J30t is a great car. One of the cool things about owning a J30 is that you can really drive the engine hard with the AC on not cause the 3.0 l to chug gas.

However, the coolest thing about owning V6 compared to a 4.5 l V8 is that I will probably keep my licence longer with 2 less cylinders.

To Infiniti and beyond. :ylsuper
