Post Title: 1990 Redo Transformation
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 8:45 PM 5/28/2008

My first post here.
I bought a friends 90 2wd 2.4 manual almost a year ago.
It needed some attention.
I got it running properly (almost) and to date have done some upgrades.
I'll keep posting updates here as they happen.
I've grown to love this little truck and wonder how I ever did with out it.
Bear with me as I learn this site.

Here's my first upgrade.
That bench seat had to go.

What a difference!

A proper rear bumper.
Old.

New.

Posted by: mrecoolgar at 9:21 PM 5/28/2008

A proper front bumper.
Aluminum wheels.
A less rust bed and a fiberglass cap.

Posted by: Reverend D at 4:26 PM 5/29/2008

Where'd the seats come from? I am trying to ditch my bench. I dislike caps. Nice truck though. The lil' Hustlers are great!

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 5:20 PM 5/29/2008

The seats are from a Pathfinder.
I'm not much for caps either but it's been indespensible for my hauling needs.

Posted by: nismopu at 12:48 AM 5/30/2008

look for some 88 starion seats, they're made by Recaro and hug you just as good as any of those expensive sparco or recaro premium seats. Prolly the best factory bucket seat, puts all others to shame. peace.

Post Title: Re: (nismopu)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:55 PM 5/30/2008

I do remember the Starion.
Wasn't the Conquest the same?

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 9:14 PM 6/3/2008

Here's the donor for my body panels.
I got the hood, cowl, both fenders, both doors and all 4 wheel flares.
The paint is great and no rust.
I also got the dash, wiring and misc.
I plan to utilize the PW - PL - PM that came with the doors.
I also plan to add PS - AC - cruise - int wipers, tilt.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:35 PM 7/17/2008

It took awhile, but I have added armrests.
I also added seatback pockets.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 5:25 AM 7/18/2008

I just grabbed a set of Pathy seats and you are right...what a huge difference!! I am now on the hunt for a king cab center console. I might try to make something out of using that and the arm rest piece out of a pathy. If only I could find gray.

Nice work BTW!

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:56 PM 7/18/2008

I have an interior out of a 1993 Pathfinder in gray.
I'm using those seats until I get mine modified.
I don't want a full length center console.
I have a briefcase bag I take with me most times and it fits perfect between the seats and under the armrests.

I have SeaLab 2021 recorded on Dvd's.
Made them myself, but am missing the first 8 shows.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:02 PM 8/18/2008

I decided to install the Pathfinder body panels over the weekend.
I also installed driving lights using the factory wiring, relay and switch.
Then I installed the AC condensor along with the low and high lines.
And gave it a wash - I forgot I had white lettter tires.
I wired the power windows today and will get to the power locks, power mirrors and remote entry soon.
Before.

After.

Looking good! Sealab is amazing and if you ask me the first season was the funniest. I am thinking about swapping in a Pathy grille and H/Ls.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:11 PM 8/30/2008

I added Pathfinder fender flares with splash guards.
And Smitty Built nerf bars.
But I'm unsure if I'll keep them on.

And I added the Pathfinder door panels.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:19 PM 8/30/2008

And here's what I did today.
I'll see if anyone can spot it.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 9:08 AM 8/31/2008

I have one of those hood insulation mats too. Haven't installed it yet. I really want P-finder door panels. Hood struts huh?

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 2:38 PM 8/31/2008

I knew you'd get it.
The hood mat came with the hood.
I have the gray door panels that came with the doors, I won't be needed them.
I'm using the taupe door panels that match the seats.
My design for the hood struts, we'll see how they fair with time.
I also have all the underhood ac components installed, except for the compressor.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 7:10 AM 9/1/2008

The flares look cool, are those off the pathfinder too?

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 3:52 PM 9/1/2008

Yes they are.
After installation I did notice the Pathfinder has a wider track.
At least in the front.
The rear flares hang low in the back.
But not too noticable.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 5:25 PM 9/1/2008

I didn't think the rears would line up at all.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 8:28 AM 9/7/2008

Rev D.
Do you have any experience in std bed vs ext cab std bed?
I'm still researching but it looks like an ext cab std bed may fit a std cab.
And if you know anyone that could use a 7' bed, I know where a rust free one sits.

Modified by mrecoolgar at 7:22 PM 9/10/2008

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 2:10 PM 9/8/2008

I don't think so. I think the length of the bed from the front to the fender well is longer on a king cab thn on a reg bed. You'd have to extend the frame to get it to fit right.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:19 PM 9/10/2008

Per the shop manual, all the bed to frame mounts are in the same position.
As far as the reg cab - reg bed vs ext cab - reg bed.
I may have to try it to see first hand.
I'll take actual measurements first.
Here's another mod, an adjustable shoulder belt heigth.
The factory position was too high for me and uncomfortable.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:15 PM 9/12/2008

Got around to painting some bare metal interior pieces.
I used a color to blend with the interior color.
I also started to clean the climate ducting and will be adding the ac evap core soon.
I stripped an 1989 for the dash braces and climate ducting for a faster turn around.

Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:21 PM 9/12/2008

Here's a photo shop of the grill mod I've been considering.
I'd be removing the inner, thinner bars.

Here's the stock grill.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:39 AM 9/18/2008

Went to a U Pull the other day and found a bunch of odds and ends.
Found a leather wheel from an 1988 Maxima.

And a rear carpet panel and speaker covers in my color.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 1:37 PM 9/18/2008

I am picking up a rear carpet on Saturday. How did you mount those speakers?

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:51 PM 9/18/2008

Nissan uses a metal speaker mount that attaches to the back wall with 3) hex bolts.
I drilled 4) holes in them to mount my speakers.
I was using the Pioneer speaker covers until yesterday.
But there's fabricating needed to use the original covers.
I had to cut 3) reliefs in the speaker frame to allow a through way for the Nissan cover bolts.
The 3) fake cover bolts had to be removed for clearance.
I'll probably shorten their length then reinstall.
Then I used a plastic 'cap' at each speaker cover bolt to act as a riser and a stop so the speaker cover does not dish down and posibly crack at the bolt hole.
Got all that?
In other words - it wasn't easy.
A picture is worth a thousand words.

I'm going to give it a try.

Right and wrong. It's actually the regular cab bed that's longer from the fender well forward. You could put a king cab bed on a reg cab truck, but you'd have a huge gap between the bed and the cab.

Post Title: Re: (Desert Rat)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 7:48 AM 9/19/2008

Thanks for verifying what I was thinking.
How big is a huge gap?
I was guessing around 3".

It might look even better if you lose the Nissan hamburger. My new grille is almost the same as yours except it's slotted for Pathy headlights. I'm think I am going to ditch the hamburger.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 3:43 PM 9/19/2008

I may just do that.
I had been considering removing the tailgate 'Nissan' or moving it centered.
I picked up an aluminum grill guard / push bar at the U Pull.
Twas $19 but the steel attachment hardware gave me a workout.
I'll be painting it black.
I had no idea aluminum was available.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 5:53 PM 9/19/2008

I was able to find and recondition a SE tailgate trim on mine. It really sets the rear of the truck off.

I installed it with 3M tape, didn't use the brackets because those require oval holes be punched in the sheet metal. It's been on for 3 months now with no problems.

I also changed the front valance/apron from the color matched metal to one off an 87 Pathfinder. Truck-Lite sells a 3 bulb amber ICC light panel for big trucks that fits on the lower apron perfectly, as if it was meant to be there. Nissan even provided the mounting holes!

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:05 PM 9/21/2008

Does your tailgate have the indent for that panel?
I considered getting one but noticed the tailgate was indented.
Instead, I got a set of 4) bed pop up tie downs.
And do you have a vertical power rear window?
I was considering adding the Pathfinder front apron.
The same piece you removed.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 5:54 AM 9/22/2008

The indent is exactly where the SE trim sits. No power windows on this ride.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 2:08 PM 9/24/2008

I knabbed the speaker mounts and rear carpet for $16 today, also grabbed some nuts and bolts to put it all together.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:23 PM 9/24/2008

My tailgate has no indent.
Post picks after you install.
Here's mine.
Note the spare rod placement since I have cubbies on the floor.
I also relocated the jack and tools under the drivers seat.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:35 PM 9/24/2008

And I added mirrored and lighted visors, front map light and a second rear light over the weekend.

I had also installed a solid grab handle on either side.

But decided to change to a softer, flexible unit.

And grab bars on the A pillars.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 8:38 PM 9/24/2008

Do you have a pic of your tailgate? Also, I don't think my truck is drilled for the rear speaker mounts. The brackets don't fit not matter which way I fit them. Also there are no upper screw holes the hold the brackets in place.

I did hang the carpet tonight though. The finisher trim is metal to my surprise and needs to be primed and painted due to surface rust on it.

I didn't install it because of that.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:44 PM 9/25/2008

Goes to show on what end I've been paying the most attention to.
I do have the indent.

Here's a pic showing where the speaker mounts go.

And how they look in place.

I believe all the metal trim panels need repainted.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 8:13 PM 9/25/2008

I just checked and my rear wall looks different. No upper mounting holes even though it has both lower holes. Odd.

I painted the upper carpet trim piece flat black. Came out nice. Just waiting for the paint to dry.

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 3:04 PM 10/3/2008

Looks good Rev.
I picked up SEM interior dye to start color matching items like the rear trim panel.

Been busy yesterday and today at the Kruse Auction at the Giant Center.
Held every fall Hershey Car Show.
Here's pic of my truck and my friend Matt pointing to George Formans Lincoln.
He came in with two body guards.

Post Title:

Did he autograph a grill for you?

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 5:10 PM 10/16/2008

No, but he did buy 4 cars.
On another note, I may be getting another Hardbody.
Not that I don't like mine, but I have a chance to get a King Cab.
It's a 1986 SE with 3.0 and AT.

Post Title:
Posted by: Reverend D at 6:49 PM 10/16/2008

Feeling it, except for the AT. SE's are really nice.

Going to take a second look at a 90 Ford Ranger.
Bad motor and trans but appears rust free.
I have 6 Taurus SHO's and plenty o parts.
So I'll be installing the motor and a T5 trans for rear wheel drive.
Ford made one back in 1990 that I'll be using as a guide.
I'll need this truck for my detailing business I'm hoping to start soon.
I don't know if I'll be keeping my Nissan if I go that route.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 2:55 PM 10/23/2008

Here she is in all her glory.
The important part is it has 95k miles and is rust free.
And my friend is buying back the Nissan when it's finished.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: MinisterofDOOM at 1:39 AM 10/24/2008

SHO motor in a Ranger should be a LOT of fun. I'm definitely not a fan of the lower plastic trim on the white truck, though.

Post Title: Re: (MinisterofDOOM)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 8:04 AM 11/2/2008

After removing the Pathfinder flairs, I installed ones from a truck.

Also installed new exhaust.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:26 PM 11/7/2008

Installed a gage cluster with tach.
Went from this

To this.

I wired the passenger side door switch that was originally not there.
Installed a better rear lamp and wired the lited visors and map lites.
I added a brace in the rear of the roof for the light mount.
I'll probablly add the king cab hinged light that drops down to illuminate the bed.
And I installed sound deadening to the roof.
I also got the power locks working.

Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:29 PM 11/7/2008

Now my friend says he doesn't want to buy the truck back.
Says he needs somrthing bigger.
I brought the Ranger home last Tuesday.
I'll be replacing the timing chain.
And adding power steering, a larger radiator and AC hopefully next week.

Post Title: Re: (JC87HB)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 3:08 PM 11/12/2008

Well... it's in place and wired but it doesn't work.
The wiring / connectors where in my dash harness.
All I had to do was plug it in.
Everything works but the tach.
When I figure it out I'll let you know.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: ghostcivic at 7:19 PM 11/14/2008

wow, i was glad to find this thread. lots of good ideas for me. i just bought a 2wd 1995 nissan with a ka24. it has 170k, but the motor runs great!
it needs some attention, paint, body work, new front bumper.
i also snagged some fender flares, window visors from the junk yard. flares ran me $40 and the visors were free.
im gonna get a black bumper/grill to replace the rusted chrome bumper.
i think the black will look tougher with the green paint.
im gonna use a spray-on tint on the brake lights to "smoke" them.
i like alot of what you guys have done on the interior.
i would like to go with bucket seats, but ill have to stick with the bench since my wife and kid will have to go places with me some times.
i would love to do a performance exhaust, but have a feeling i wont find something like that on ebay.
please keep posting pics of your projects, it helps us all.
and its great to see others restoring/improving these great little trucks

Post Title: Re: (ghostcivic)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 5:58 PM 11/15/2008

Glad it helped.
I haven't driven it for a week because it needs a timing belt.
I expect to 'git er dun' next week.
I prefer the black instead of the chrome as well.
Thanks for the encouragement.
I need to finish it so I can sell it.

so pathfinder seats are a bolt in???

and that bed, was it from a 4wd? looks like it flares out more.

whatcha doing with six taurus sho's! give me one

Post Title: Re: (BronkStang)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:04 PM 11/20/2008

Pathfinder seats are a bolt in.
And I have a set of gray ones from a 94 I need to get rid of.
The bed was from a std cab 2wd as far as I know.
I don't believe it protrudes more than normal.
Maybe the flairs make it appear so.
The SHO's are fun, I'll always have several around.

Posted by: mrecoolgar at 5:50 PM 11/21/2008

I honestly don't remember where or how I got it.
It is a hot ticket to upgrade to.

I haven't found the time to research it yet.

very cool thanx. ima try and get pics of my truck up soon. 94 dark green hardbody i have a matching shell with rack. the front bumper and fenders are a lil smashed in right now but the radiator support is still good thats my next mod 4x4 fenders haha. ive been doing lil stuff inside the cab too i machined a dome light cover that fits over what was left of the factory one also rear sliding window latch (witch are imposible to find) and im working on spring loaded visor mounts that are comming out neat but i found a scrap yard the only does nissan so im gonna check that out this weekend

Post Title: Re: (steveOd21)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 2:04 PM 12/4/2008

Get those pics posted.
I spent the last three days at a freinds shop.
I installed a new timing chain and guides.
The chain and sprockets were fine as well as the tensioner.
However, the tensioner guide was a bit worn.
And the other guide was found as broken bits in the oil pan.
Sorry no pics as I was pressed for time and really greasy.
I then installed my PS system but found I need the box to column coupler.
The person I bought the system from failed to include it.
So back on with the manual box.
Then I found I needed a starter when I tried to leave.
All in all though it went well.
And since the radiator needed to come out, I installed the larger one for AC cars.

theres the spring loaded visor mount im working on above. they interlock with spring but the alumi couldnt suporrt the weight of the alumi visor i made so ill have to make that part out of steel. or better find OE visors

this is my domelight cover it fits directly over what was left of the OE i drilled and taped the OE screws for my newer smaller ones and put small piece of plexiglass in the froun and thats a milti-color LED dome light haha (id rather have just white or blue but thats the olny color it comes in.)

thats my window latch (impossible to find)

this is idk? a vent? i want to put infinity 4x6 speekers there. do you know what its for?

over sized rearview for safly cutting people off haha i dont want to but here in california they make me do it

there my *****, with a black eye she looks pretty decent and ill get more and better pics after this weekend i took theres with my fone hopfully i find time to get to that that disman place too i really want a map light.

i went to the disman place on saturday and really scored.

i got the back carpet and bezzle piece and side mirrors switch(not pictured)
even thoe i dont have power mirrors there was a hole there so i bought it to fill the hole. headliner maplight and braket. visores, windshield side moldings with tweeters(clarion) i scored again there cuz they didnt know the stock tweeters where replaced. steering wheel(mine is disentagrating)
emblem they gave me for free that is getting painted everything for $226.00

heres the donor

everything cept the carpet came out of this. they said they never seen anyone thake the headliner from the pathy but it comes out in two pecies. think i will have to cut it?? or make some kind of molding.

fenders and bumper where gonna b next but i had to jump on thoes interior peices they had just got that pathy in and i wanted first dibs haha

you still working on urs? or are you on to a new project?

Post Title: Re: (steveOd21)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 4:34 PM 12/8/2008

Nothing like getting what you need.
The Pathfinder headliner fits but you will need to fab a trim piece at the rear.
I am using a headliner from a 94-95 Hardbody as it's molded for the rear.
I installed the remaining parts for the power steering today.
I had to make a trip to get the intermediate shaft for the steering.
It came from the Pathfinder I stripped.
I also installed the Pathfinder tilt column.
Now I have power steering and tilt.
In order to use my current steering wheel, I'll need to swap more items on the end of the column.
Mainly the round contact unit for the horn.
I'll get pics soon.

Post Title: Re: (mrecoolgar)
Posted by: steveOd21 at 9:01 AM 12/11/2008

nice i like pics. did you have to change the rack out for your steering or is that a pretty easy mod? my truck is the base model too. i was raised in AZ but i live in Ca so the no AC dosent really bother me i like the MPG too all thoe i do miss the PS somtimes but have goten used to it. have you ever had your tuck dynoed? i wounder how much more power you get w/o PS AC? my truck has 192XXX mi and i ve changed the valve cover seal but didnt know of the time chain probs at that time. when you changed yours did your motor sound diffrent?

Post Title: Re: (steveOd21)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 3:06 PM 12/11/2008

For the PS you'll need the reservour, pump with mounts, steering box with pitman arm, 3 lines and the fan belt.
The crank pully has 3 sections for alt, PS and AC.
You may also need the steering column and or the intermediate shaft.
Nissan says the 2.4 is good for 134 hp and 154 tq.
Since the timing chain was replaced there is no rattle at start up.
The missing guide allowed slack in the chain, thus the rattle.
I had to replace the contact housing on the wheel side of the column.
This allowed me to retain my early style wheel.

And the column cover needs to be modified for the tilt lever.
I'm using a 94 Pathfinder column and the cover and wheel are a different style.
The tilt cover I thought would fit doesn't.
The ignition switch is in a different location.
My original cover is on the right, the tilt unit on the left.

hey man what model pathy did you get your door panels from, which trim level, I would like to put those in my 93 hb as well. how much trouble was wiring the locks and windows.. I heard if you got the wiring it was a piece of cake.

Post Title: Re: 1990 Redo Transformation (blackd21vg30de)

Mine came from a .... well I don't remember.
My color is taupe and was available from 1986 thru 1992, to the best of my knowledge.
I do have a set of gray door panels I need to sell as well as the seats.
I got parts from many Pathfinders and Hardbodys.
I'm at the point where I'm almost done and will need to get rid of my overstock.

None of the wiring is easy or plug and play.
I had to tap off a hot curcuit on the fuse panel, and add terminals in the fuse panel.
If you attempt this, use a donor of the same year as your truck.
I ran into unusual differences you'd never imagine.
The locks are the same way, you need to tap off the fuse box for an always on circuit.
And be sure you get the module located under the drivers seat (trucks) or in the rear (Pathfinder).

thanks for the info man, if you were closer to TN id ask what for the seats but thats a long way... I thnk I know where a good scrap yard is within 45 minutes of me. Awesome job on the hb by the way. wish I had time and money to go get some of those thinngs but with two kids, wife and full time you know how tht goes!!

Happy new year guys! i made some good progress over vacation

map lights visors and headliner wired them in to my dome light circuit

new trim w tweeters i havent wired the tweeters yet and would like some advise about it idk some people say you need a crossover i thought i could get away with wiring them to my headunit (sony xplod50x4) with just some bass blockers from radio shack. im only running two sony xplod 6 1/2 right now

new steering wheel i kept my grey insert. notice shaved turn signal lever. dont ask. on a side note the lil screw for the center insert IS VERY important. ill be making a new lever out of carbon fiber tube from the hobbie shop cuz i dont feel like droping $200 yet and theres enough left of the switch to still make it work.

new headliner now i just need a few more trim pieces if any one has any let me know.

i took these off to drill a tiny hole in what was left of my lever and found this freakin weight?? why can i take it out? dose it just hold the cover in place or what?

glory shot. daddys shop in AZ

new parts idler center/transvers link

the new center link (moog) came with a steering stabalizer perch but where do i mount the other end to? and then the piec that the lower arm connect to in the pic above ( idk what its called) i was thinking about milling that out of aircraft alumi? what do you think?

old idler arm

old centerlink
all input is appreciated thanks guys

Thanks for sharing, you have been busy.
I wired my visors and center light to the dome circuit as well.
I have the tweeters and trim as well but decided against using them.
I will be adding grab handles instead.
My headliner was the same way in the back, that's why I updated to the 93-95 style.
The tilt wheel I have from a 94 Pathfinder has the same weight.
I figured it was a counter weight to help when tilting it lower.
Next on my list is a center link, Napa $84.
I noticed it was bad when installing my PS system.

If you still have those panels (and the other guy doesn't take them) I might interested in them in a few weeks. Have to save up some $$$, I just bought a 93 4WD King Cab to complete the collection. I would still be interested in the panels though, I have taupe ones from a 92 but the color just doesn't match the way I would like. They are more of a brownish gray. Won't work without paint. How much would you let those go for?

Any one else waiting for warmer weather?
We've had some 50-60 degree days here but I had other things to do.
I'd like to finish the Nissan so I can sell it.
I'll be selling my used parts too.
I have a complete 94-95 style dash, complete with brackets and gages.
I'll be installing a replacement motor and trans in my Ranger soon.
That way I can use it after the Nissan is sold.
Then I can change to the SHO motor and 5 speed at my leisure.

Those look great except the fact that I would be forced to add power windows to my truck. Is the master switch pack for 2 or 4 windows? And how much would you be looking for them anyway?

Post Title: Re: (Reverend D)

Warm weather is here so I got back on the Hardbody.
I found this spare in a Pathfinder.
It will replace my current 14" white wagon wheel.

And I installed the molded headliner and A-pillar grab handles.
Note the rear headliner lamp.

whats up guys? i ve been kinda idleing on my truck proj haha i got a new computer and some shxt but anyway. Since then i got some black racing seats i swooped up at the swap meet for 40 each wow yeah they have damage on the back but i dont care there in a truck and stock seat brackets so they bolt in lyk stock pretty nice. And a K n N . I broke down and ordered a new front hb bumper i was thinking about swaping a 99 pathfinder bumper but i want to keep the sleeper look. I got 4x4 fenders grill and corners from a yard so i will finally be fixing the frontend cosmetics

nice donar i almost got thoe 4x4 rims but they wanted my rims plus $200 what do you think?

KnN! plus seats thats lyk 7hp

Hey Mrecoolgar ever put A/c on a truck w/o a/c ? i wanna do it to my truck i think it would be simple all for the evperator . do you know if the dash has to come out?

Post Title: Re: (steveOd21)
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 5:27 PM 4/21/2009

$200 plus your rims is too much, and odd to ask for.
I have intermintent wipers to add next.
Then a remote entry system.
Then an illumination circuit to add glovebox lamp, ashtray lamp and ect...
Then I'll be finishing adding the ac.
Underhood you need: ac comp with mount, fan belt, hi + low pressure lines, condensor and a relay .
The relay plugs into an existing connector.
Your crank pulley will be a 3 belt, or at least mine was to cover the ac and ps.
In dash you'll need the ac switch and the evap core plenumn.
The dash switch will fit into your existing controls.
The evap core plenum will replace the non ac plenumn.
That's just off the top of my head.
I will be removing my dash to do the ac because the system and ductwork need a good cleaning.
Keep us informed of your doings.

Your low beam problem may be with the headlamp switch.
Mine had the same problem and it was the first thing I fixed.
I took my stalk switch apart to repair.
But later replaced it with a cruise unit.

Post Title:

Mine came with a burned up H/L switch. That was just the easy part to find and fix. Someone had made a rats nest of a wiring job fixing a headlight that didn't work (wired the headlight into the parking lamp when the whole time it was a fusible link that had pulled out). Either way that fried the T/S pretty good. Unrepairable I might add. Got one for $20 at a yard.

That's the way mine was when I first got it.
I fixed the switch then undid the quick fix wiring.
Then I eventually got another head lamp switch.

Did a leak down test and found #2 cylinder was leaking into the coolant.
Bubbles would appear in the radiator.
This was done after finding a cracked insulator in the #2 plug.
I will be trying a gasket sealer system in another week or two.
I'll let you know how it works.

Check your brake pedal. Nissan used plastic plugs on the pedal to depress the switch. Over time they can turn to dust. At that point the switch is no longer being pressed when you release the brake pedal. I had this happen to me 2 months ago. I replaced the missing plug with a small M6 bolt, lock washer and lock nut. Same happened to me with the clutch, Nissan used the same idea and it ended the same way. Truck wouldn't start because the clutch pedal was no longer pressing the clutch switch.

Thanks for the info Rev.
I may have those switches as well, from the 94 Pathfinder I stripped.

Kiba, if I can locate the switch, I'll send it with your order.

The parking lamps are different depending on the year.
I have the drivers side from a 94 Pathfinder.
And the passenger side from a 86 or 89 Hardbody 4x4.

I have the wing nuts and know where to get the studs and intake tube.
I should be able to get those for you after Sep.

If you're serious about the seats, I will have to take them apart to ship.
Then I can box them and take them for a shipping quote.

It's no hassle, if I can help I will.

Looking good, just dusty.
Mine had rust thru, of which I see none on yours.
That's a great starting point.
Recheck all your battery connections and use dielectric grease on the posts.
I'm almost certain there's a loose connection.
Just disassemble and reassemble all connections.

Well I think I might know the problem A few weeks back my fan blade met a wire that came from the distributor tot he ecu...and I spliced it back together... Could I have messed up?

That probably is a shielded wire bundle and should be replaced.
Or maybe someone in the know can repair it.

The corner lamp will fit but may not match up to your grill.

Oh, and your package went out on Tue.
Thanks again.

This is not a good time for my bills right now.. if you can't wait because you have another person interested in them by all means sell them I don't wanna have you lose money over me

Post Title: Now To Add AC
Posted by: mrecoolgar at 6:10 AM 8/22/2009

Wed I finished underhood by adding the compressor.
It sits under the distributor.
I had to remove the cap in order to install the compressor.
I tried from under but it wouldn't go in that way either.

Then I removed the dash.

This is the section that gets replaced when adding AC.

Thu I removed the climate ductwork.

This debris is typical after 20 years.
It was thru out all the ducting as well.
I plan to add a filter at the fresh air intake to solve this problem.

Fri I cleaned all the ductwork and started to reseal it.
This is an example of the thin, sponge-like seals used.
They are sticky and deteriorate over time.

I replaced this type with adhesive backed felt.

This is an example of the thicker foam-like seals used.
They deteriorate over time as well.

Lol I might grab mine form auto zone or O'Rileys my dash is barely visible when I drive at night Oh and the white cluster is way better than that horrid orange cluster.

The white one has a nice blueish color to it which makes it better on my glasses and cuts down on the glare Would you like the old printed circuit board?

Let me know.
I'll be glad to send what you need.

I was getting a wet carpet on the passenger side.
I resealed around the windsheild but that didn't help.
I resealed around the fresh air intake but that didn't help.
It was leaking from the plastic cover that's above the fresh air intake.
It was warped and the water clung to the underside then dripped straight down into the fresh air intake.
I solved this problem by making another cover from tinted poly.
Old.

New.

And I've been painting the dash supports.
They come unpainted from the factory.

And I thought I was the only one who was ever nutty enough to do this! My old HB had a water issue too, and those supports were mighty rusty. I treated them with Loctite Extend (rust neutralizer) and then sprayed them with flat black paint.

What a great idea and lots of work of course. I have a 1990 Nissan PU 4 wheel drive. I have had it for 15 yrs and now has 178,000 miles. I have been thinking of dumping it at some point but it hasn't given me a reason to do it yet. My interior and exterior need some work. Love the bucket seats. I am inspired. Runs great. Have never changed the timing chain.

Post Title: 95 Hardbody Pathfinder swap
Posted by: SGiese at 2:01 PM 9/21/2009

I have a 95 Hardbody with a destroyed front clip. Will the pathfinder front clip with inner fender or without work on this truck? I have found a 94 pathfinder I can get the clip form cheap. The front of my inner fender is pretty torn up but I just may be able to beat it out enough if I have to. Also we may be gifted a diffrent pathfinder of unknown year to get the front clip from as well.

Yeah, the Pathfinder body parts will fit.
The dash is going back in now, slowly.
I finally removed the pedals to paint.

Proper wire harness routing followed by the climate plenums, 3 sections.
All with new seals in and out.

What a difference.

I still need to wire in the ashtray and lighter illimination, the glovebox light and intermintent wipers.
Kiba - I'll be getting to the salvage yards after Oct 5th.
Let me know if you still need the air cleaner hardware.

Post Title: Re: 95 Hardbody Pathfinder swap (JC87HB)

I do.
I have all 4 from a Pathfinder that includes the mud guards - $60 all.
I had these on my Hardbody awhile and looked good.

And the fronts only, no mudguards for a hardbody - $20.
Thanks for asking.

The two photos above show the Pathfinder set when I had them installed on mine.
If I have any attaching hardware I'll send with it
I'm not sure how much to charge for shipping to GA.
But I'm guessing it will be between $30-$40 via UPS.
The box will be light but a bit large.
You can send a USPS money order or may via PayPal to 'mrecoolgar@hotmail.com'.

Been working on the power hook ups for the PW, PL, PM and ect...
I drew the internal routings of the fuse block.
It has many always hot and key on power routings.
And the back has taps to add more circuits via wiring.
One for always hot and one for key on.
The upper fuses will be key on only and I'll be adding the PW there.
The lower fuses will be always hot and I'll be adding the PL and remote entry there.
I also removed the padded section of the dash from the plastic section.
You may not believe all the dirt that was sandwiched between them.
