Post Title: My 1991 240sx updated pix! (56K is a no-no)
Posted by: pflicht at 4:10 PM 3/17/2008

OK so if you read my thread from about a week ago, I stated I bought a S13 base. Its all stock with 165,000 miles on it and has a rebuilt transmission. I said I would post pix but never did, so here you are.

BTW, I don't know much about the transmission (im a lot more knowledged about the motor), so I don't know how this happened. It doesn't have a rev limiter. The tach still works perfectly but I accidently pushed it to 8,000 rpms the other day. In my old S13, the revs automatically cut out at 6,300 i think it was. Why would it not have a limiter but still be able to accurately read the rpms?

And now for the pictures :

Damage:

Some more:

Sleepy eye:

Lemme know any ideas you guys have. I think im gonna fix the fender/turn signal first, then windsheild. I also think im gonna smoke the tails.

Actually, upon further inspection (and clear pictures) you could notice the whole front end is a little off. Its been in more than one accident. The driver door, driver fender, and hood have been replaced. The front end where the headlights are mounted is bent and twisted a bit. Yeah, i venture to say 2-3 accidents. But straight!

Yea, smoked. Im a sucker for blacked lights. Not completely black but you get the point. I want to eventually paint it this http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/322342 color. Teal, smoked tails, and gold or gunmetal rims = teh sechs for me!

I did that a little while ago. Car went above 7k when I did a small burn-out. It puzzles me still to this day. My car too reads RPS acuratly and it still has the speed limiter. I'm thinking that if the RPMs go up fast enough, the computer doesn't have time to catch it. Just like my friend and his Saturn SL2. He would shift into neutral (Auto) and back into Drive (flooring the gas every shift) and on the 3rd shift into neutral the car would rev all the way to 9k RPMs.

Thanks everyone for the positive and negative responses. All input is appreciated. For those of you who want to know how to do this, I will be making a write-up soon. Im also going to apply 1-2 more coats of tint on and then clear coat and wet sand.

This saturday I'm taking her into my buddy's work and we are gonna put her on the lifts and fix the e-brake. Finally. I hate having to put the car in gear when its not running, let alone to use the tranny as a parking brake.

As of right now, Im painting the carpet black. There were a bunch of stains in the carpet that I didn't want to deal with. And I also think black > grey. I'm still going to reupholster the seats with microsuede, although IM not going to do it. I've never done it before and I don't want to screw up. So I will just have it done professionally.

After the e-brake gets fixed, I've got a hook-up on a brand new windshield and installation so probably gonna get that done as well as pull off the passenger fender and hammer out most of the dent. Anything is better than the condition it is in now.

Next paycheck Im going to get a universal cat cause my exhaust doesnt have one. The guy I bought it from said it fell off while he was driving. I figured he just had it put back on. Nope. I looked under the car yesterday and found my car to have the exhaust welded from the exhaust manifold all the way back to the muffler. Cause right now my exhaust is stock, except for the missing cat, but sounds loud and ricey as hell.

If I put the 3" catalytic converter on and buy a 3" cat-back exhaust, would it be quiet? My Exhaust is starting to rust and when I buy the cat I just want to go ahead and buy the cat-back. But in no way shape or form can it be loud. So what do you think? 3 inch cat, 3 inch cat-back exhaust with resonator and silencer, will it be real quiet?

Anyways, today (Friday) Im going to try and finish painting the carpet and maybe headliner. I'll take pix and what not and upload them (resized though)

Until later today

Update: OK got the carpet painted black. There were Uber stains all over the thing. So I decided to give the carpet a new life. After all, its not worn very much at all just a bunch o' rust and whatever stains. So for your amusement are some before and after photos. Hope you enjoy!

BEFORE:

AFTER:

OK now the question. In "ILikeMy240sx" write-up on timing chain for the DOHC found here, http://forums.nicoclub.com/zer...age=1, maybe I didn't see it but the timing chain guides, should I remove them or replace them. I've got that rattle-can/marble in the can sound coming from the front of the head/valve cover, so I just want to be sure I can safely remove them or replace them.

Got the e-brake fixed as well. I spent 10minutes the other day wrenching on the handles' bolt connected to the cable to tighten it up. It still didn't work. So my buddy grabbed his air wratchet and went away with it. FINALLY it worked. LOL it was REALLY loose, IDK why but I do know that I need new rear pads. I hear metal grinding. FTL.

Looking good man, can you give a run down on how you did the carpet? Was it a rattle can? What brand/color, etc. It looks really good, I have a similar problem with those coke stain type spots, not down for stripping out all the carpet and replacing it.

thx

I did the same thing as my carpet also had the case of wtf stains, only thing is that from use the gray starts to come back, maybe its just my carpet.

Nope not your carpet. It normal. The paint "rubs" off once you use it. I just have a spare can set aside and once a month or so I repaint the heavily used areas back to black. Did the same thing with my "Sorolla".

Its been in more than 1 accident. At one point, the Driver Fender and Door as well as hood were replaced with red counterparts. So yes it has been repainted but back to the original black!

As for the drifting thing... probably. The previous owner was 17. He said he ran into a "fence" He also has a hella clean Supra. I'll take a picture of it sometime and post it.

Thanks Asmar!

So yeah. Changed my brakes today. One of my pads were so used it was down to the bare metal. Put some grooves in the rotors, but nothing major. I'll replace the rotors next week maybe.

Ordered my catalytic converter today as well. Should be here within a week. Then Im gonna order a cat-back exhaust. I also spotted a Japanese climate control that I might buy. I also am thinking of getting clear turn signals.

I also ordered a valve cover gasket and spark plug gasket from o'reilys so today (Wed) I'm picking them up and pulling the valve cover off. Then I'm gonna sand, primer, and paint the cover. I'm also going to check the timing chain guides. They seem to be a bit too noisy lately.

OK, well thats all the update for now. I will be on later today to give an update.

Post Title: Re: Re: (wahrheitoderpflicht)
Posted by: pflicht at 9:41 PM 3/26/2008

OK! So update as of 3/26/08:

Changed my brakes 2 days ago... The pads were bad so I had to take pictures of them. If you look the first picture shows the passanger rear and how little material is left on the pad. The second picture shows both pads from the passenger rear and the lower pad has actually been worn down to the metal! Ouch! Time for some new rotors!

Yesterday I decided to go ahead and replace the valve cover gaskets cause the seals were leaking oil. I pulled the cover off and removed the old, hard, worn out gaskets and installed brand new, stretchy, flexable ones! No more leaks! While the cover was off, I decided to sand, prime, and paint the cover. The color I used it the color I think I will eventually do the whole car in! Hope you enjoy!

Well thats it. My catalytic converter has been ordered and should be here within a week. And I also recovered the radio mounting brackets from the guy I bought the 240 from, so that saved me $10-30.

Im now on the look out for some shocks/struts and lowering springs...(+1.75 inch drop) If you got some and want to let them go, shoot me a price!

If I do anymore work on the car until I get the cat, I'll post. Otherwise later!

I removed two timing chain guides on my KA24DE and it seems to run fine. I removed the one at the top and the one at the top right, both had really deep etch marks in them from the chain hitting them. That's how I knew they had to go, I just did a visual inspection. Also, don't forget to lube up the tensioners while your in there and break them free if they're stuck.

I lowered my last car 2.2 with some sportlines and it just wasnt enough for me, after about a week i wanted it lower. If you have the cash id recomend some coils just because they can go alot lower if desired. just my .02

Post Title: Re: Re: (wahrheitoderpflicht)
Posted by: pflicht at 1:24 AM 3/28/2008

Yesterday I replaced my fuel filter.

The story behind this is... I went back to the dude I bought the 240 from cause he left his spare keys to his supra in my car and he kept the radio mounting brackets when he pulled his deck. So I go over to his house and give him his key and he gives me the brackets with the little tray that goes underneath. He ALSO gives me brake pads, mind you the day AFTER I change my brakes. They are the same as the ones I used so Im going to grab my receipt and take them back to AutoZone for a refund.

Anyways, we get to talking about Nissan and Toyota, and talking to him about what I've done to his old car so far. We then proceed to under the hood and I remembered I needed to ask him about the fuel filter. In the 5 years his family owned the car, they didn't bother replacing it. Not that big of a deal... sort of.

Fast forward back to yesterday. I pull the old filter out and see that the gas that is coming out of it is a bit dark. So I cap off the ends and grab a dr pepper 20oz bottle, rinse it out, then let the gas drain into it from the filter. The gas is almost black... WTF!?!? About an hour later, the dirt settles to the bottom and Im left with a liquid sort of resembling gas. All of the dirt separated and fell to the bottom. The amount of dirt in the bottle indicated to me that the filter has not been changed for a VERY long time

Now I already know that the previous owner didn't take the best of care with my baby, but now Im wondering about the previous owners... I think once I get all the fluids and what not changed, Im going to buy a blown motor and rebuild it then swap it in.

Oh, the guy also gave me a carfax report of the car... She is a whore! First sold in NY then went to TX, then PA, then MO, then Kansas... And there have been two owners here in KS, i just wonder exactly how many people have farted in the seat I now sit in It really doesnt matter to me how many people have owned her, I own her NOW and thats what matters... The only thing is it only shows 2 owners Oh, and you can clearly see that the car has been in more than 1 accident, but the report doesnt show it being in any. Makes me question the accuracy of CarFax....

OK, thats it. Thanks for reading!

I found the upper timing chain guide torn off, damage to where it would've been, and grooves on the underside of the valve cover. WTF?? Post Title: Re: (JustinStrife)
Posted by: tramp_drift240 at 7:56 PM 3/29/2008

dude that rattle sounds like your idler gear might be a little loose, and it could also be the timing chain guide on the exhaust side of your head. i had rattling going on with mine, and found out that the bolt for the idler sprocket (19mm bolt, bigass gear for the cams/lower chain/dizzy) was really loose, so it was sliding forward and tapping the upper timing cover.

remember, if there is stuff going on (like the chain rattle, grooves in the guides), that means your chain might be wearing out, and you might wanna consider getting a new timing kit. it comes with the chain, tensionsers, guides.

if the upper guide already got ripped off by the chain, there might be enough slack in it from regular wear to make it tear more stuff up.

as for the missing piece of the upper guide, i have a feeling it dropped down to the oil pan, its its almost a straight shoot down the timing cover, except for all the timing gears along the way.

Post Title: Re: (tramp_drift240)
Posted by: pflicht at 3:48 AM 3/30/2008

Yeah I'll pull the cover off sometime and check the idler gear.

I pulled the passenger fender off yesterday to hammer out a lot of the dent. Turned out a lot better that what I thought it would.

After:

Not the best job but its worth it for me just to not have to look at that rediculous dent.

Post Title: My Steering Wheel Question!
Posted by: pflicht at 2:12 AM 3/31/2008

OK, when I bought my last 240, the guy had a momo steering wheel installed. I loved it, but stupid me, I didn't grab it before it headed off to the salvage yard.

He also let me keep his grant evolution steering wheel. I just figured out what kind it was, I knew it was Grant but i didn't know what model. Well finally, I got off my lazy *** and did some searching. Found out this Is a Grant Evolution GT (Black/Silver). Andysautosport.com has this for sale http://www.andysautosport.com/....html And goes for $207!!! So my question is, should I go ahead and install it in my 240 now, or should I stick with the stock wheel and sell the Grant Wheel???

OK, my catalytic converter came in today... I measured it, came out to 8.5 inches around and my exhaust tubing is only 6.5 inches around... Adapters WILL be needed to weld this thing on...

Now to get it welded on...

OK, got a little more work done yesterday... I removed some of the emissions from my car and plugged the open vacuum lines created cause of this... runs smoother and slightly stronger. I hit +8.5K RPMs several times now, still holding up.

And a shot of my valve cover... I think im going to repaint it metallic blue!

So what do you think????

Heythanks for the suggestion, obvious, but welcome. I already found a local guy with a 240 parts car thats gonna sell me his fender along with a few other things, including a $300 DE motor that runs.

Also found out why I was hitting 8.5K rpms.... Im really not. The tach shows it but I shift from 2nd to 3rd when Im doing 55-60mph, which is right around 6.3-6.5K rpms if im not mistaken. I knew my speedometer was crapping out, but now Im just assuming my whole instrument cluster is f'd. Gives me a reason to buy a digital instrument cluster!

Yesterday I changed my oil. Finally! I knew it needed changed ever since I bought the car (1 month ago) The oil was almost pitch black, but it did have a hint of brown.

I bought some Gunk engine flush...

Followed the directions aka; add to crankcase, lets engine idle for 5 minutes, drain oil, and replace oil filter and add fresh oil. Did that. From previous posts (if you even read them ) you would know that my motor has been making the infamous "rattle can" timing chain sound. Well after running Gunk Motor Flush, I would venture to say that the noise was reduced by 30%. That put a big on my face!

Well, my motor has been burning a bunch of oil as well. So I decided to pick up No-Smoke at wal-mart and added that in when I was changing my oil. This stuff claims to have "sealing" additives to re-seal valve seals and fill in gaps between the pistons and the cylinder walls. Well I must say, this is the first time I had used this product, and I am impressed thus far.

I ended up driving about 15 miles from my old apartment, where I changed my oil, to my new place. By the time I arrived there, I did not notice any oil burn-off! Not bad for $3! I ALSO noticed that there was NO MORE rattle can noise coming from the motor! I think my lifters are making a slight ticking sound, but hardly noticable. Its nice to have a nice, quiet motor finally!

So GUNK, in combination with No-Smoke, helped my motor out tremendously. I read not to long ago, probably a week ago, in a thread about timing chain guides suggesting to remove the front cover and check the tension of the chains. If the tensioner wouldn't compress, someone suggested using break cleaner to break up any carbon and/or gum inside the tensioner. Well, I WAS going to do that until I used GUNK. I would suggest to anyone with the same problem I had to use GUNK before they go tearing into there motor. I mean, if you are going to change your oil anyways, you might as well try this method first.

Did I just do a review on a product? Custom title maybe?

Well that's all for now!

First some pictures then a question for you guys:

Now for the question:

I've got a question as far as my rebuild goes. Should I just fess up the $1700 for the AMSperformance advance rebuild kit, or should I piece together the rebuild? IDK, just a quick glance it might be cheaper to just piece it together. Does anyone have any experience with the gasket sets/timing chain kits listed on ebay? IDK, what do YOU guys recommend?

Post Title:
Posted by: pflicht at 9:43 AM 4/6/2008

2 more pictures....

So what do you guys think about my rebuild question? Should i just buy the kit from AMS?

so we are turboing the KA? is that the plan.

i dont know much about either of those things. but if you are interested in my lowering springs i will give y oua special deal since your my budy.

Post Title: Re: (idahotuner)

Fail. You wouldn't buy Manley Turbo tuff rods from ebay just because they are on ebay? Everytime someone says that I mark them with an autofail. Unless they are no name internals buying things from ebay is perfectly fine.

Exactly

I don't know how people do it, but they can sell the same product for $25-75 (sometimes more) cheaper than anywhere else on ebay. So I mean if I can go through and piece together the rebuild for $1200 and it be just as good if not better than AMS's $1700 kit, then I'm all for it. I just don't want to forget anything, the AMS kit is guaranteed to have everything I could possibly need for my rebuild. But for ~$500 less, I think I should just piece the parts together, weather I get it from ebay or any other place for a good deal!

Thanks man! I used a spray paint called : "Ocean Blue Metallic" its a $10 can. You can get it at an Auto Parts store.

OK, took off the front door panel and found some Infinity speakers installed. I know they are not the best, but its damn better than stockers!

Only in the fronts though... 4x6 Pioneers in the rear...

very nice speakers. i need to figure out my set up that i am going to do. i think i am going to do the 3x6 in the doors and 6x9s behind the seats.. in some custom speaker mounts. that should be more then enough to satisfy my need for a stero in my 240. now my accord is a different story.

I think I'm going to follow the template from the NICO audio section and install some 6 1/2's in the front (idk what brand yet, but they need to handle bass pretty descently) and move the Infinity's to the rear.

Time for an UPDATE!!!

First off, got paid yesterday (Thursday) and immediately bought a CD player. I bought the Pioneer DEH-P3000IB

So far I really enjoy this player. I have come to realize that the 4x6 speakers just wont do for what I need, unless I buy a sub and amp, etc. But I can't biitch too much, at least I can listen to music while I drive now!

Secondly, I bought a 2.5" exhaust flange and a catback exhaust. I will stop by the auto parts store tomorrow after I get off work to pick up a 3" ID to 3" OD adapter. I will cut into one side of the adapter/reducer so that I can bent it to accomidate my 2.5" universal catalytic converter I posted about previously. I have to "make" my own 2.5" reducer because I'm not going to pay +$10 for one 4" long piece of metal, sorry just not going to happen.

As far as the catback goes, well I went the ebay route. I bought the setup from EBstores. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW
Wow that's quite long... so here is just a picture of what it SHOULD look like:

White90esex also bought this and has actual pictures on his thread: http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/330580

So now I just wait for everything to arrive, which will hopefully be before next saturday.

Third update is I removed the cloth from the doors. The cloth was old, nasty, and ugly. So I removed it and I think it looks loads better.

Fourth and final thing on the list is my headliner is getting a makeover. By tonight (Friday), it will be black and beautiful!

I will post pictures of the Deck, side panels, and headliner later on this evening after everything is done and the car is cleaned out. So until this evening, have fun reading and PEACE!

Edit: BTW, the ebay listing for the catback was asking around $98 OBO, I submitted $70 and it took right away... So if someone is looking to get this exhaust, find the OBO listing and offer even lower! Just a heads up

IDK idaho, we will have to see how the bills play out in all of this... Otherwise I think I can!

On the other matter, some pictures of the aformentioned cloth removal from the doors and the new cd player.

OK, now DISCUSS!

Post Title:
Posted by: pflicht at 8:04 PM 4/21/2008

Since i don't feel like editing my last post, and I feel like whoring im just going to double post.

Anyways, I had and issue with my cat and my soon to be catback connecting. My cat is only 2.5" and the catback is 3" so I needed a 3" reducer. Couldn't find one at the local part stores, so I turned to the interwebz... The cheapest one I found was $18... F that! Any other reducer at AutoZone or O'Reily's is only $2.99 so I decided to buy a 3" to 3" reducer. Im going to make a few slits in one end and bend it to match the 2.5" cat. Problem solved

Post Title: Re: (idahotuner)

For the roof liner, hell any interior pieces, I just use "Dupli-Color Vinyl Spray: Flat Black" Thats the only thing that touches my interior from now on. I've tried Krylon Fusion with little success. Sh*t just chips and cracks. Havn't run into any problems with the Dupli-Color stuff.

My catback is on its way. EBStores sent me the tracking number yesterday and it is expected to be at my doorstep FRIDAY! YES! I can't wait. Well if anything else happens before Friday, I shall let you guys know!

If you're buying timing chain parts I'll sell you my ka de timing chain. It had 75k miles on it before I tore the motor down to part it out.

I have quite a few other parts still here. Namely 2 dohc heads.

Good lookin build man. I have 2 things to say:
1. Take the second timing chain guide off when you can, because it can cause that noise, and find the top half to the other guide because it could be floating around hitting the crank. So pop off the oil pan someday and look around.

2. KA's do not have 'lifters.' I noticed you said that a few posts back. Just clearing the air for you. They are cam on bucket design I'm sure you saw. Just springs, hats and cams, no lifters.

u should quit smoking. More money for the car? Sorry I shouldn't b telling u what to do I'm not ur mom .

git under yer car and bolt the bish up

your exhaust will bolt up. i dont understand why you think it wont. no welding needed, just get under the car, unbolt old exhaust, bolt new on... i have a stock KADE with stock exhaust manifold, a 3" test pipe, and a 3" catback. all bolts(ed) up fine.

git under yer car and bolt the bish up

I know you are NOT telling me HOW my car is setup.... When the person before me WELDED straight pipe all the way through and then you tell me that it "will bolt right up" damn peepz! I dont want to sound like a dick but damn man, I know what a welded exhaust looks like....

If you want I'll take pikshurz and post them for you!

How the hell does a 3" exhaust "directly" bolt up???

Besides... I am going from 2" to 2.5" cat to 3" catback....

NO mention of welded anything man. you asked how A (singular) 3" exhaust bolt up. i answered. oem downpipe is roughly 2", oem cat is roughly 2.5", so do you see in any way how your statement about exhaust could lead someone to think that you had an oem exhaust system... the rest of the car looks stock, figured the exhaust might be too.

Yeah, not much of an "exhaust" huh? I should have taken a picture of the whole damn thing at the muffler shop just laying there in one piece... It was crap. Yeah. Im bought Ben's rear seatbelts so they are on their way and Im getting a Digital Speedo and Passenger fender here soon so that will be fun!

Yeah, I like it, especially at WOT. My auction had a $75 shipping charge (BOGUS!) and a $99 OBO bid. I submitted $70 and it took, so you might try $50???

^ Thanks, Ben. I love the smoked look. Black on black on clear on polished stainless = teh sechs for me, but those damn steelies have got to go. I got a local buddy that is gonna sell me some alloys for a good price so out with the old and in with the old???

I've got two projects I'm going to start up, and I am going to need 6 Blue LED's with pigtails to complete them, and a bunch of epoxy. Maybe even a write up once they are done... cause i know for sure one of them has never been discussed before, but the second I think was mentioned, but IDK if it was ever done...

In the mean time, whilst trying to aquire the alloys, I am thinking about tinting the windows and saving up a little here and there to invest into some coils. IDK, the tenzo R springs are rated @ a 2-2.5" drop, and at first that would be fine. But I think im looking more for a 2.5-3" drop, and I like the fact that with coils, you can go back and adjust ride hight.

Several people on here say stay away from K Sport, others swear by them, but IDK. I mean, I'm not looking to track or drift the car, maybe take it to the drag once or twice a year AT MOST. The only need for the coils is to lower the beesh... So basically something that isn't 1.5K bucks but not a set of $350 coils either...

All in good time man. Doing your car up properly should be job number one. Get the right parts the first time; ie coils. Unless you're really set on not tracking it then springs/shocks are fine.

adjustability=racing.

Post Title: Re: (Didderson)
Posted by: pflicht at 8:07 PM 5/5/2008

Yeah, rite now, no tracking... And probably never. It's cool to watch, but I don't partake... So I'm just going springs/shocks. Later on down the road, if my interests and needs change, I can always buy some good coils.

Post Title: Re: (idahotuner)
Posted by: pflicht at 10:28 AM 5/11/2008

Hobby Lobby. Michaels might also have it. The company is "Testors" the spraypaint is "Model Window Tint" or something like that. I'm gonna go to break in like 30 minutes. I have a couple of cans out in my car. I'll get all the info you want. And some pictures of the paint. I would HIGHLY recommend using a clear auto paint over this. The first time I tinted, the tint stayed for a while, then peeled right off. Now that I've re-sprayed and clear coated it, it hasn't given me anyproblems, and we've have MASSIVE amounts of HEAVY @SS rain and really hot days and cold nights. So pretty much all weather except for ice/snow and its lasted.

so how WERE your springs at carlisle yesterday nub? lol. somebody wants coils... but i wont mention TOM's name... OOOPS

but yeah, just a small auto-x course on a paved area... toms car did grip pretty darn well, and i guess we wont find out how the PBM coils do out there, cus i woke up with a killer migraine and my back feels like death. figured a 3hr round trip of driving, a day of tracking, etc wouldnt really help my head or back much. there are plenty of parking lots

but pflicht, seriously, buy GOOD coils. you will not regret it. ive put my PBM's thru their paces already, even on the softest setting, they are nice and firm. i havent had the balls to stiffen them anymore cus i like how they are now. i cheaped out before and bought KSport. ill say it til the day i die, their products and customer service are GARBAGE. driving this car with pbm's is night and day compared to a Ksported car... i was shocked at how big a difference it was.

cars looking good man, but ya may wanna save up your cash and instead of doing cosmetic things to your car, you should probably patch those non-existent frame rails and floorboards. i say this cus i had to on this current coupe. the guy gave me a good deal at $300 for the whole patch job. came out about 90% to my satisfaction, some of the welds werent crazy penetrated (kinda like a cold solder joint) but overall, its such a great feeling to not have to worry about more rust.

/novel

keep at it man

Have you decided what springs/struts you're gonna go with? I ended up getting the Tein S techs with AGX's. IMO the Teins are a bit soft but installing the AGX's is probably the best thing I've done to my S13.

Post Title: Re: (mrgreeneyes)

mrgreeneyes: NO no and NO to coils... I don't need them. They are a very nice luxury. I can hold off for a long time, being Im not gonna be doing any tracking. Spending +$900 just to lower your car is F*CKING REDICULOUS and I am not going to do it.

if your goal is JUST to lower it, then buy ebay springs. but its not. you want a nicer ride while being lower.

tom has kyb's with eibach springs and my car can destroy his in the twisties... i dont have em just for ride height, i got beautiful performance out of them. thats all im saying man. i just dont want to see ya have spent money on a spring/strut combo then ride in someones car with nice coils and regret not putting that money into coils as well. i did something worse than that lol... i wasted $800 on ksports only to find out that for a meager $200 more i could have had PBMs. I felt robbed/stupid for not doing it right the first time.

but this is your car, your call. i just wanted to share my experience.

if struts and springs are your thing, do it. i wont "look down" on it or anything. i respect being on a budget. i blew my budget outta the water and im in debt because of this stupid car. lol but i heart her, even if shes ugly and spraypainted

I've had Tein HR's before... I know what coils feel like, I love them. But they came WITH my old hatch. I need to go to the salvage yard and see if they are still on the car... Now to find the guy that took my car... lol No srsly. I love coils, but Im not dropping a grand for em.

$400 is about my limit, so yeah. Spring/struts right here. Later on though, Imma get some coils. When my budget allows. But I have 1 blown strut as it is, and I can't be saving up for a couple months just to get coils... Maybe I should get a second PT job... hmmm

Post Title:
Posted by: mrgreeneyes at 1:20 PM 5/11/2008

second PT job ftw. lol. i guess i misread where you said "i can hold off for a long time" where it now appears that you meant you can hold off on coils, not on time.

makes a LOT more sense now lol. i first read that and took it to mean that you could wait a while to change the suspension...

OK, I picked up the latest issue of Project Car, and Tein has an ad in there that suggests an MSRP of $750 for the Basic Damper Coilovers. Is this what they are going for???

Adrian? Anyone? It just seems unreal that a complete coilover setup by TEIN would go for that kind of price.

Like I said, there were no problems before now. It made a rattling before the car stopped running. I think my timing chain broke.

Any thoughts?

So yeah, my car keeps acting funny so I pulled the spark plugs out and am checking gap clearance and also cleaning the plug wires... I pulled the dizzy cap off and noticed something... The little metal circle in the middle of the underside of the cap is gone, causing the rotor to have a very hard time with getting juice to send through the wires... At least that is my theory. I AM missing the little metal circle, so my question is, would this missing piece be the cause of all my problems??? Its seems reasonable. The rotor has a connector piece that touches the cap. The connector touches the little metal circle, which i am missing, and thats where the juice comes from. Without this metal circle, the electricity is arching from the little amount of metal to the rotor. Am I right? I do need to buy a new cap now, i assume

IDK?

So yeah. Come to find out, the "rod knock" is actually not rod knock, but a sound that only appears when you let off the clutch. Hmm???

And now I just need #3 and #4 plug wires in order to drive again... Hopefully

Yup. Put the knock sensor back on and put some gas in and RAN like a champ... But then, the ish started boggin and wouldn't run. So "pimpgixxer04" gave me a ride to the auto store to get some MAF cleaner and some gas... and BAM! Runs like a champ.

I am so happy to have my car back, it feels great... As for the pix... I promise they are coming, just been busy trying to get my car to run right. Oh and i traded pimpgixxer his seats for mine, so I have black/blue "leather" seats front and back now... Check out his thread for pictures...

hhaha... good call on ILove's car... but he hasnt made a build thread either...

his car is stock as cock... but has q45 brakes... and is mad fresh except for the autotragic and bigass dent in the side... but he maintains it well... we just put all new ignition parts in (sparks, wires, distro, cap, etc), new filters all around, regrounded her... its got some nice potential... and NO rust...

but i see his point about this thread. its more of an intro as to what 90% of newbs to nico do.... along the lines of no performance parts, no real direction/goalset totally defined, just picking up lil cosmetic parts here and there... its just a "hey, i got this gadget/painted this part" thread... and a "hey, one day im gonna turbo... " mindset... but the underside of the car is literally crumbling.... believe me, that **** doesnt just go away... i spent countless hours under my car with a grinder/wirewheel... you have a long way to go my friend... id start on that asap

start building dude... give us some substantial stuff...

It'll be a couple months before my motor is built (going forged internals) so I'll only be giving periodic updates. I might pick up a second job so I can pay some bills and be able to buy parts.

Then Im gonna replace a bunch o shyt under the hood ie: Brake booster, BMC, Clutch Master, Clutch slave, Motor/Tranny mounts... Then a walbro fuel pump... But before i do that and after I rebuild the motor, Ima get some coils.

omg ok you take the instrument cluster out, remove the plexiglass and plastic trim, its held on with a few screws on the back, you'll see em. once you get those out its self explanitory. it won't move unless you use pliers and lift the axle the numbers sit on out of the assembly by moving a little metal clamp that clamps the 'axle' on. It's easy lol I won't go into it further but yea. I did it to read what my new motor was at.

Post Title: Re: (Didderson)

Bought some 6 1/2" Kenwoods to replace my 4x6 Aplines... Then I went down to ACE Hardware today and had them cut me 2 8x11 sheets of plexiglass so I could make my adapters

I ended up fixing the broken piece at the top left corner, so no worries.. All I can say is wow... Sounds a shyt ton better.

OK thats it for now

Its been a while since I've posted on NICO, but here I am again.

I've been busy... Getting my buddy's camry motor swapped, getting his S13 tranny/diff swapped along with other little things, and making sure my car stays running.

Gonna replace my headgasket this Saturday as well as install electric fans (picked up both fans from a 200sx for $40). I'll try to keep you guys updated as events unravel.

Replaced headgasket but now a couple of relays are fubarred... Damn it... Oh well, time for a trip to the salvage yard. I think I'll grab some "extra" wiring while im out there... Hehe...

Didn't get around to electric fan install, but no biggie. It will get done someday. Also picked up an e-brake handle/cables/calipers for $5... Not too bad... I will have an ebrake once again!

Havn't updated in a while. I put a 10" sub with a 760W amp in the car. Im in the middle of installing power folding mirrors... Let's see, I blew 1 of my 5.25" front speakers, so I'm going to buy some 6.5" and mount them in front instead. I want to put some bigger speakers in the rear, but I might just pull the rear speakers. I don't know yet.

I have some pictures that are still on my digicam, but I don't feel like uploading them right now, so yeah. Other than that there really isn't much going on right now. I'm paying off a bunch of bills that have racked up over the past 3 years, so when all of that is payed off, hopefully I can start doing more to the car.
