No new customer discounts! Thats final.

Anyways I found a couple of surprises when I changed my valve cover gaskets... Lemme know what you think...

I found the upper timing chain guide torn off, damage to where it would've been, and grooves on the underside of the valve cover. WTF?? Oh and I still havn't found the upper timing chain guide piece thats missing. I do have a weird noise coming from the motor. I'll get a video later on today and upload it.

Reminds me of what I've done with my different 240's over the years, and what the S13 still needs to be finished. Project's coming along man just don't get discouraged. She takes time to come together, but once she's done, she'll love you like no other.

dude that rattle sounds like your idler gear might be a little loose, and it could also be the timing chain guide on the exhaust side of your head. i had rattling going on with mine, and found out that the bolt for the idler sprocket (19mm bolt, bigass gear for the cams/lower chain/dizzy) was really loose, so it was sliding forward and tapping the upper timing cover.

remember, if there is stuff going on (like the chain rattle, grooves in the guides), that means your chain might be wearing out, and you might wanna consider getting a new timing kit. it comes with the chain, tensionsers, guides.

if the upper guide already got ripped off by the chain, there might be enough slack in it from regular wear to make it tear more stuff up.

as for the missing piece of the upper guide, i have a feeling it dropped down to the oil pan, its its almost a straight shoot down the timing cover, except for all the timing gears along the way.

Yeah I'll pull the cover off sometime and check the idler gear.

I pulled the passenger fender off yesterday to hammer out a lot of the dent. Turned out a lot better that what I thought it would.

Before:

After:

Not the best job but its worth it for me just to not have to look at that rediculous dent.

OK, when I bought my last 240, the guy had a momo steering wheel installed. I loved it, but stupid me, I didn't grab it before it headed off to the salvage yard.

He also let me keep his grant evolution steering wheel. I just figured out what kind it was, I knew it was Grant but i didn't know what model. Well finally, I got off my lazy *** and did some searching. Found out this Is a Grant Evolution GT (Black/Silver). Andysautosport.com has this for sale http://www.andysautosport.com/....html And goes for $207!!! So my question is, should I go ahead and install it in my 240 now, or should I stick with the stock wheel and sell the Grant Wheel???

Dattebayo... NO!

OK, my catalytic converter came in today... I measured it, came out to 8.5 inches around and my exhaust tubing is only 6.5 inches around... Adapters WILL be needed to weld this thing on...

Now to get it welded on...

OK, got a little more work done yesterday... I removed some of the emissions from my car and plugged the open vacuum lines created cause of this... runs smoother and slightly stronger. I hit +8.5K RPMs several times now, still holding up.

And a shot of my valve cover... I think im going to repaint it metallic blue!

So what do you think????

Heythanks for the suggestion, obvious, but welcome. I already found a local guy with a 240 parts car thats gonna sell me his fender along with a few other things, including a $300 DE motor that runs.

Also found out why I was hitting 8.5K rpms.... Im really not. The tach shows it but I shift from 2nd to 3rd when Im doing 55-60mph, which is right around 6.3-6.5K rpms if im not mistaken. I knew my speedometer was crapping out, but now Im just assuming my whole instrument cluster is f'd. Gives me a reason to buy a digital instrument cluster!

Yesterday I changed my oil. Finally! I knew it needed changed ever since I bought the car (1 month ago) The oil was almost pitch black, but it did have a hint of brown.

I bought some Gunk engine flush...Followed the directions aka; add to crankcase, lets engine idle for 5 minutes, drain oil, and replace oil filter and add fresh oil. Did that. From previous posts (if you even read them ) you would know that my motor has been making the infamous "rattle can" timing chain sound. Well after running Gunk Motor Flush, I would venture to say that the noise was reduced by 30%. That put a big on my face!

Well, my motor has been burning a bunch of oil as well. So I decided to pick up No-Smoke at wal-mart and added that in when I was changing my oil. This stuff claims to have "sealing" additives to re-seal valve seals and fill in gaps between the pistons and the cylinder walls. Well I must say, this is the first time I had used this product, and I am impressed thus far.

I ended up driving about 15 miles from my old apartment, where I changed my oil, to my new place. By the time I arrived there, I did not notice any oil burn-off! Not bad for $3! I ALSO noticed that there was NO MORE rattle can noise coming from the motor! I think my lifters are making a slight ticking sound, but hardly noticable. Its nice to have a nice, quiet motor finally!

So GUNK, in combination with No-Smoke, helped my motor out tremendously. I read not to long ago, probably a week ago, in a thread about timing chain guides suggesting to remove the front cover and check the tension of the chains. If the tensioner wouldn't compress, someone suggested using break cleaner to break up any carbon and/or gum inside the tensioner. Well, I WAS going to do that until I used GUNK. I would suggest to anyone with the same problem I had to use GUNK before they go tearing into there motor. I mean, if you are going to change your oil anyways, you might as well try this method first.

Did I just do a review on a product? Custom title maybe?

Well that's all for now!

very nice build so far. man. well i dont know ifi car it a build but in depth tune up. props for cleaning it up. the car is in alot better hands now. plus your cool cause are names are really close haha. i like the tinted tail lights man. i am going to do mine with the vinyl tint. and i wont do it over the blinker. some reason i liek the orange on the blinkers look JDM to me i guess.

deff need some wheels and a lower ride though. then it would look sweet.

as far as the dent just tell people that was a sweet drifitng scar

First some pictures then a question for you guys:

Now for the question:

I've got a question as far as my rebuild goes. Should I just fess up the $1700 for the AMSperformance advance rebuild kit, or should I piece together the rebuild? IDK, just a quick glance it might be cheaper to just piece it together. Does anyone have any experience with the gasket sets/timing chain kits listed on ebay? IDK, what do YOU guys recommend?
