Ok Wes...you've convinced me. So, I need to know what is involved in the upgrade.

I am already planning to buy pads/rotors all around. I need to know what would be necessary for me to do the upgrade, replace pads, replace rotors, and replace/add parts necessary to make the upgrade fit with my stock 15's. So, assuming I need to do this upgrade in the least expensive way possible, what else do I need to finish the project.

A list of parts, part numbers, and cheapest source for those parts would be super handy. If you have already made such a list in another thread, please point me in that direction.

Thank you!

Ross... call me anytime..... When I start thinking about this stuff and I start posting, ill end up rambling for a long time and you dont want to read everything...

BTW, I *will* help you tackle this as there is not as much to screw up as the guides... as we've found out..

I probably wont have you using SS lines, if I had to go back and do it again, i wouldnt do it.....

Basic list:- Z32 calipers, you want the 30mm or ones from the turbo (they are the same)- I have 300ZX rotors you can have for free... may need ot be turned but they are free.. Otherwise get new rotors, makes no difference to me.. my rotors are a litlte rusty but i can clean em up- Spacers- H/R spacers that I got ill have to find the Part numbers and stuff later when I get home, i dont have that info here at school.

Holy hell Wes! I just looked on everythinginfiniti.com and the calipers were going to run me $1000! Thats just calipers... get some rotors from you, but I would still need pads and spacers. Sweet fancy moses, this car costs more than my kids!

I am hoping you have a cheaper source for the parts?!?

Or check your NAPA store. Now, let me ask another question. Anybody converted Y33 brakes to Z32 ?

Is the Z32 a 300ZX from 1990-1996?

If so, then what year is the best for the calipers? I don't know if the part numbers are the same either. What is the difference between the twin turbo calipers and non-turbo?

Here are the prices from everythingnissan:

caliper ASSY, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Right 95-96 $260.95 caliper ASSY, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Left 95-96 $0.00

caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Right 1994 $260.95 caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Left 1994 $260.95

caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Right 92-93 $378.45 caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Left 92-93 $378.45

caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Right 1991 $378.45 caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Left 1991 $378.45 caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Right 1990 $378.45 caliper, 300ZX, w/Turbo, Left 1990 $0.00

Dont buy the calipers new... Get them from someone on here or off EBAY.

The turbo calipers were 30mm thick and the NA were 26mm thick.

Never pay more than $300 for a set of 4, IMO.

Quote » The following is a comparison of some different Z32 300ZX brake calipers.

The "26mm Aluminum" calipers were used ONLY on 1990 non-turbos. They used a 280mm x 26mm rotor.

The "30mm Aluminum" calipers were used on 1990 Twin-turbos and ALL 1991-1992.5 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They used a 280mm x 30mm rotor.

The "30mm Iron" calipers were used on ALL 1992.5-1996 300ZX's (both turbo and non-turbo alike). They also used the 280mm x 30mm rotor. [/quote] http://importnut.net/300zxbrakeswap.htm

Spacers-

HR3065662- http://www.optionsauto.com/

You can just go with OEM pads those will be decent enough... Best for the money by far...

you cna get brembo blank rotors too.. if you dont want to make use of my free rotors... Seriously, my mom is going to throw them away if i dont get them out of the garage... few mins on the wire wheel in the shop and theyll be rust free.....

I will gladly accept freebies... with my budget, a wire wheel may be my very best friend!

And... since I will need to get the rotors from you anyway... I guess now would be a good time for me to enlist your help with the labor. Since you just did this job on your Q, I suspect you will make quick time of this job.

yes and i wont destroy anything this time...

My rotors may need ot be trued, im not sure if theyre warped or not..

Also bring some brake fluid.. Valvoline synpower is the stuff that I use...

yes only 2 spacers are needed.. The front wheels WILL stick out a little more, but not much.. hardly noticeable on my car, IMO. Even less noticeable when your running at stock ride height.

Ok... spacers on the way.

Brake fluid... how much am I going to need? Do you drain the whole system for this job?

Lugs.... do I need extended lugs or were those included with the spacers?

And, finally, pads. Get 'em from Joe?

the calipers come with pads, so in theory we could just use those if you wanted.. dont order the pads until you get the calipers, because you may have missing pins/clips... NOt a big deal but it would be best for you to do it that way, since joe's shipping only takes 2-3 days......

Yeah get the pads from Joe..... Not sure what different compounds there are for the Z32, but tell him you want the best one.... Tell him to give you whatever he would give me.......

Your stock lugs will be fine... Thats what im using on my Q..... the studs are included in the package.

Get 2 of the big bottles, we're gonna flush this baby out real good, including your abs thingy.....

Ok... sounds like I just need to wait. So, I will update you when product arrives at the door.

If need be, I will order new pads. And, I will take some nice high res pics of the brakes when they arrive. That way you can help me figure out if I am going to need any additional parts. How much would it be to get the rotors trued and resurfaced?

So Wes, why the spacers? i mean I understand the clearance issue but is only a problem for stock wheels or will everybody need them?

I believe spacers were strictly an issue for running 15's. With larger wheels the spacer is not necessary.

I might be wrong on this... but, I believe Wes posted a whole walk-through of why/how he installed the spacers. Do a search... it was fairly recent.

hes right... I dont need the spacers for my 18s... its not about the size of the wheel, but how far away the spokes are from the hub of the wheel. There are probably some 15s that will clear Z32s... And there are some 17s that wont clear em...

bottom line is most 16s+ meant for RWD nissans will clear..

Someone recommended putting DOT4 or DOT5 in the brake system.... something about firming up the feel of the brakes. Would it be worth the investment? What size bottles do they come in... I see std. 1 qt, and also 1 gallon bottles. I can get two 1 gallon bottles... but, holy crap thats a lot of fluid!
