Dumb question....when upgrading to HIDs, why does everyone get the H11 low beam instead of the D2R? The D2R is what we are supposed to use (according to the guide) if we have HID's (which is what we will have once the install is complete)....so why use a "halogen" sized bulb?

I believe in the context of lighting, balasts are either electronic (digital) or magnetic.

theyre not "halogen" sized bulbs....theyre genuine HID bulbs....H11 is just the way the bulb fits into the stock wiring harness

well then whats the difference between the slim and regular sized ballasts?

As far as I can tell the "regular" one is a magnetic ballast. Digital ballats extend the life of the bulb, put off less heat, and keep a more consistent color.

so there you go....the digital ballasts ARE better than the "regular" (magnetic) ones

are you not concerned with getting max light output?

5000k is putting out roughly 3200 lumens6000k is outputting about 2800 lumens

6000K is only 400 lumens less than 5000K, but 6000k HID bulbs are still 3x times brighter than stock halogen. I live in the city so little less light doesn't affect me much.I just do it for the look.

5000k are the bulbs with the most lumens right?

4300K-4500K hid bulbs produce the most light output. So 5000k hid is pretty close to OEM hid

Did you purchase the slim ballasts from the seller supervtec on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...ZWDVW

If so I was wondering how they are working out. The price seems kind of low for an HID kit, so I am afraid they may be some sort of knock off, worried it may screw up my car.

I've found a bunch of different HID kits that seem ok but they aren't digital/slim. I saw an expensive one and I was wondering if anyone has used these from v-led:

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Some of the negative feedback is pretty sketchy.... Sucks, because I want some HID's for my fogs without paying alot.

I ordered a set of HIDs with slim ballasts from Supervtec last Sunday. Got it on Thursday and installed it today. Having used them for a total of about 25 minutes so far I can't really say anything about reliability but the do work just fine. On a side note I know these ballasts are supposed to be thin but they are even smaller than I imagined them to be.

Xentec's have been installed by a lot of people on this forum and very few complaints have been made. They seem to be the most reliable "cheap" brand of them all. If you want to spend more than twice the price for a bigger name than be my guest, but you wont be getting anything that you dont get with the "cheap" brands.

yes the super slim ballasts are really small......just look at the comparison pictures of them on the ebay page......theyre barely bigger than a credit card!!!!!

if you guys are skeptical about the new xentec slim ballasts or xentec brand in general, then go with some other expensive brands, but many of us here are currently running Xentec conversion kits for our altimas and it seems to work pretty darn good. Now i cannot compare to high end brands and I don't know how much difference between light output of Xentec vs McCulloch.

For the price of $75 - Xentec works pretty good!

Xentec and X-light conversion kits FTW!!!

No...No... Not Skeptical about the brand, more about the seller and it seems to be the only one selling that brand on EBAY. Some of the Negative Feedback.

avoid buying !! Sent wrong item and won't respond back. must be illiterate.

BUYERS BEWARE OF SELLER PAID ALMOST 2 WEEKS AGO STILL NO PRODUCT RECIEVED

lightes did not work bad bulbs and ballest wouldn't return emails or calls SUCKS

Tried to contact, but no response, and the thing sent doesn't fit low quality

Lousy product, lousy seller, no communication. His positive rating is beyond me

1st time 1 ballast bad, 2nd 1 ballast bad. Doesn't even respond to emails!

Seller did not send item or refund money. Beware of this seller.

This may be a silly question, but if I've got factory HID and I just want to step up from the OEM 4300K to either 5000K or 6000K, I just swap out the bulbs right? The same seller has just the bulbs for sale ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...wItem ), but not having looked at the stock bulbs, I'm not sure of the connectors. Anyone know if these will work for factory HID upgrade? Are HID connectors fairly universal?

The bulbs that you linked to look like the ones that came with my Xentec kit. If you have HIDs from the factory you should be looking for bulb size D2R as per http://www.sylvania.com/Consum...s.htm

I did notice on some of the feedback that there wasn't even a Xentec sticker on the ballasts which is another reason why I thought the seller is sketchy. Nothing against Xentec since I was almost going to purchase them from amazon after seeing the HID votes, but they were not the slim ones. How long have you had those in?
