She is fully slammed. The act sus is 100% inoperative. I am hopeing it's a fuse. The interior lights arn't working. None of the buttons function TCS act sus light etc etc..

Driving over a speed bump was horrible. The car is 100% undriveable. It's been towed.

based on my conversatiosn with an Infiniti dealer, it sounds as if I may just need the front bumper cover..

Any thoughts???

I have a site which provides 100% factory matched paint.

I am thinking of doing a repaint on the body kit..

I need to get that damn roll cage out.. It's actually a clean install, very limited cutting into the carpet and stuff. The cage is kind of wicked, it looks very very well installed, and safe..

Stellar! Can you forward me some pics of the cage? I take it you can't get in the rear seats?

I know the exact ride you're talking about! The suspension is brutal when it's not working. You're going to have to try and get the active suspension switch working asap. Once you've got that going you can run the self diagnostic of course, and go from there. It seams me and you have the same problem... my Q is hopefully going to Ernesto's right away. There's no way they'll take longer than the dealership! Maybe that will provide you a basis for the active suspension restoration.

Is the front bumper that of a body kit, or factory? It's hard to tell in the picture. If you want to keep the look of that bumper, then maybe repair it. If not, replace it.

If you put the grille on does it cover the part of the hood that's chopped off? I'm not a grille fan, but to restore to as new condition it should go back on.

Oh you're saying to restore it to the condiition stillen built it to?

I must be the only one that loves the ornament..

It's the Infiniti logo, and the background is an ancient japanese plant..

I think that's cool as hell.. I want to put that back on...

I'll get you some pics of the cage corey..

According to the guy I am speaking with I may just need a front bumper cover, and possibly a hood..

Hold it hold it hold it!

I have actually seen some JDM Q's where they lop off the lower half of the hood "snout", and then the emblem is kind of half-on, half-off the hood.

You can't redo the bumper with 'glass, better to just replace the bumper cover.

Ryan, i have a 92 parts car on the way, and could use some help with the expense of getting it here. Maybe we could work something out, seems you might need several parts... It's grey.

Don't EVEN pull the cage! Hell, if you wanted a stock Q, we coulda found you one. Who knows how much chassis stiffness was added by installing that cage? Who knows if they compromised the structure somewhere else, and the cage remedies it? Leave it, dude!!! It'll look great once you clean up the little things.

Hitman.

You may be right. Cause this grill it has I've seen on yahoo jp auctions. So I guess it would make sense the hood is cut. So I need a new hood. Or the grill part that comes up from the bumper as seen in that diagram, and the emblem.. or the emblem and the hood. Unsure. Anyway, anyone want the grill, with the gold infiniti logo plastered on it?

It's a love hate thing with the cage. The cage is very well installed. Very clean. No exposed frame or anything. I can't open or close the visors or anything. One needs to be closed it's like half open, and I can't even do that lol.

The interior is in perfect condition. The leather is so soft and looks like the 2k5 leather. Just need to take off the wood. Thats kind of why I want to take out the roll cage, it detracts from the interior.. Which may be the nicest part of the entire car. They must have spent some good money doing all the seats/door panels/armrests.. I think they did basically everything.. I dunno what to do on this cage

Anyway, I need to get a copy of that automobile magazine. Louie can you check your stash? I am totally unsure of when it was published. The car is a 92, so I'm guessing 92 93 ish.. I'm sure it could be mentioned somewhere on the front, so it may not be hard to find. If you could look through your archives, I would soooo appreciate it. If not, I'll try giving them a call.

Hitman, for sure.. Once I get it running or drop it off at your mechanic you must have a look.

The DMV rocks.. I went online and got a temp 3 day registration which I can do again.

WOW! I like the aggressive look of that body kit. That's exactly what's missing from my '91...the sporty lower air dam and the integrated clear fog lamps. I want that body kit!

I checked out Stillen's site for the body kit, but unfortunately it doesn't have any pics available other than the rear spoiler. So it comes down to your Q as the only "living" Stillen prototype documented. Can't wait to see more awesome pics on what the side and rear end body kits adds to the look of the Q.

What site are you refering to? Will the cost be cheaper than what Joe can offer? I'm looking for OEM paints to touch up chip marks and perhaps repaint the front plus rear bumpers. Any leads?

Someone here recommended this site, don't remember who, but THANKS.

http://www.paintscratch.com/

They offer 16 different colors for the Q. They have almost every car made.. Tons of good reviews from customers with cars such as Ferraris. Looks real good

As for Joe, I was unable to get touch up paint from 94 from the dealer. They said it was no longer available. Plus these guys sell it in bulk if you need more then to just touch up.

What do you guys think of these wheels? I don't know much about AZEV wheels, but upon further research they appear to be high quality German rims... I think I have the center caps. I don't like the minute amount of clearence they leave the skyline brakes.. Needs tires asap, thinking about going with 18s.. not sure..

I THINK the stillen kit offered on their site, is the same one as I have. I can't confirm this, but I am going to call up stillen.

That's sooo cool, Ryan.

Hard to tell how slammed it is until you see the pic of it on the truck.

I'm with AZ.....don't remove the rollcage, or if you must, just dismantle the part of the cage that is obtrusive from a driver standpoint.

Need pics.

Hey, that's the kit! Nice find..

I notice the Impul kits I've seen have like molding instead of striaght fiberglass + paint.. Not sure if this makes sense, I am not good with these sort of terms.. Which do you guys prefer.. The molded look of the impul or the body color matched loko of the stillen kit..

That's exactly the grill I have.. Cept the infiniti logo is golded out..

Hmm dare I say I like the look of that impul with the grill :)

Heavy,

Thanks for your input. I've been waiting for you to respond to this thread, cause you know about this type of stuff, so I was hoping you would chime in. You to 1qck

I need to get some pics of this cage..

Yea, the combo of the active suspension being inactive and a spare transmission/actuators/other parts I can't identifty were really weighing the trunk down... I was fiending to drive it, I backed it out, and immediately reparked it. Nothing like the brake pedal going straigh tto the floor, and the back end bouncing.. Very unsporty.

I was already scheeming to sell it, prior to getting it, but after seeing it, sitting in it.. I just couldn't bare to do it, unless i had a financial emergency.I always thought reupholesting all the leather would be cool, but just way to cost prohibitive.

I'm such a leather fiend, I think this is my favorite part of the whole car..

I need you cage experts to tell me what you think after I post up some pics.

What do you guys think of the IMPUL grill? and also the differences in the kit between the impul/stillen ver... Interested to hear your comments..

Guys, I need your opinions on the wheels.

The car needs tires ASAP, and I am debating on upgrading the wheels at the same time.

1. What do you think of the wheels on the car currently? Try to imagine the center caps included

2. What do you think would be some choice wheels for the car?

3. Do you think going bigger would be more of a disadvantage? I say this because Stillen seemed to take good time on this car, and also somehow lowered it.. He didn't seem to spare any expense on this car, which makes me think he could of gone with 17 or 18 inch wheels, but didn't. I am wondering if he found the 16 inch combo to be the best combo for the active suspension. Perhaps with the lowering the 16 offered the best handling combination.

Looking for as much input as possible, I'm really unsure how to proceed at this point.

Muey bueno input from you guys, and I really appreciate it. Keep it coming!

Is that a Momo wheel?

Dennis has pointed out that the best combination (assuming that a soft enough tread tire with precision robust construction is available), that a 16x255/50-16 tire has the highest load carrying capacity and thus the most performance capability. I know from reading the sidewalls on my wife's 245/50-16 SZ 50EP (no longer made) that the load index is 97. I assume the 255 would be higher. Dennis is collecting rear 300ZX TT 16x8.5 rims for such a deployment. Who knows how much longer high performance tires will be offered in 16" sizes.

If you are considering bigger brakes, then you will probably be forced to go at least 17" (for 335mm front rotors) or 18" (for 355mm front rotors) and have beaucoup bucks. Tires that fit will be declining in load carrying capacity as the wheel diameter increases, however. Probably due in part to declining air volume capacity of the tire.

If the roll cage is welded, it would probably be best to leave it, or modify it if necessary. The added stiffness will help your handling. Even if it is bolted, repairing the bolt holes would be daunting.

I'm going to keep with the skyline brakes that the car has now.

16s really barely clear the calipers. The calipers have scratches on them, which I'm sure were caused by rubbing.. Seem to be on the fronts only

I tink I'm going to repaint the calipers black, and have nissan painted in red. Can't stand the grey calipers all scratched up and nissan barely visable.

Since the brakes arn't going to be upgraded, perhaps 16s are the way to go. Stillen seemed to think so. Since he somehow lowered the suspension, I think he found the 16s to be the best combo.

What's your guys opinion of the grill. I'm trying to decide on grill vs emblem..

Chime in on wheel choices as well

Seriously I'm so confliced, I need nico to put my car together for me.

I remember the Brabham car had a grill grafted on, much like the later G50, or JDM kits. I think it was functional.

Nice ride! Great to have another Q45a owner around. My opinion is that you should restore the car back to the way Stillen built it. I've got a stock Q45a, same color, and would love to have a roll cage! Even the grill is acceptable in my opinion, if only because this car is a well-documented piece of Q45 history. It would be a shame to change it back... (Wanna trade?)

The active suspension can easily be lowered by adjusting the sensor linkage at each wheel. No need to reprogram anything. There's a small turnbuckle between the sensor and the lower control arm that can be adjusted to set ride height. I've considered doing it, but with flat accumulators the ride is already low enough. It would be cool to adjust the height so that "N" is the low-profile look, and "H" is normal height.

Chances are that your active system is very low on fluid, and you're riding on the bump stops. In 10 years, I've had quite a few experiences with my active suspension. I've repaired the ACTSUS controller, replaced multiple sensors, o-rings, etc. The system may come back to life if you can get the fluid level back up. Start the car, set the ride switch to "H", and fill it up until the suspension raises up. Then shut it off, remove and reinsert the key, then restart it. The ACTSUS light should go out. Top off the fluid, then check for leaks. Drive it around and hit some good bumps to get the air out of the system, then check the fluid level again. Once you get this far, you can run the ACTSUS test with the height switch. Good luck!

^ Good info from Mike...

Brian, my 255/50/16's were Z-rated and a 99 load rating.

Ryan, I think that kit is made by Erebuni and is 'glass. I think Stillen sold it for a time with their wing (which I love (and covet).

Anyone know if Stillen has any leftover wings?

Also, Ryan - I think it'd be a SIN to put heavy rims on that car. If it were mine, and I were putting rims on it, I'd go with the FC's that Rex has on his Skyline in 17x9 with 245/50/17's all the way around. They're light, classy, strong, and relatively inexpensive, with MAJOR "street cred".

17's are a nice compromise.

p.s. Remove the rollcage and we will never forgive you. Might change your screen name to "Nancy". :D

I must admit that I like the grill:)If you still want to sell it let me know, although I think it should stay on your car without the gold emblem:), I think the color matching of your kit makes it really look factory, its not overdone at all. it just blends in nicely, I have seen a few of them on Yahoo.jp, like Heavy and AZ stated you should leave the cage in the car, granted it added a little wieght but with a high quality shop having installed it its probably welded in, and even if its not the rigidity it added would still be worth keeping it, do you want to remove it becuase its hard to get in the front or rear doors? if so you can maybe have the bars made to swing out
