Why so inefficient?

I'm not a Ford or Fox body fan, but I happen to like my neighbors 88 Fox body GT vert. I've been in it many times. It's a very clean unmolested stock garage queen. He regularly wins cruise night trophies. Of course it's got it's share of minor problems, some fit/finish issues and the brakes are awful (after all, it's an 80's Ford). But if you accept it for what it is (cheap sporty cruising convertible), and not a real sports car, it's really not bad.

That is a gorgeous GT Vert! I bought my first one from my brother, to help him out when they needed money for a bigger vehicle. The second one I bought because it was in pristine garage kept condition like the one you posted, I totaled it 2 weeks later though. I had a lot of fun in both of them but once I moved on to other vehicles like my 88 Mazda RX7 Turbo II and my 90 300ZX, my loyalty changed really quick. I respect the Mustangs for what they are and can't say I would absolutely say no to one again, but if I were in the market for something like that, there are plenty of other things I would consider too. I really have been itching for another RX7 lately though

As far as a Jetta TDI being boring, you should have tapped into your modding nature and spent some money on making performance improvements, then it wouldn't have been so boring. There are some TDI's out there that are just as fast and exciting to drive as some of their gas powered alternatives.

And for that $40K, I could buy a C5 and a Corolla.

Very few TDI's are "exciting" to drive. The ones that are, have a TON of $ invested in them.

BTW, I'm far from a "diesel snob" - Remember, I worked extensively on the Desert Fuel project for the early stages of the Automotive X-prize, and our prototype was a turbodiesel / electric hybrid.

I once had the interesting experience of jacking up one end of a Foxbody vert to change a tire, opening up the door to grab the lug-key-thing, and being unable to shut the door!

I don't want another GT, my GT was a nice car but I prefer the LX look. I want an LX hatch 5spd midnight blue w/grey interior if I ever get another one. That or a black 86 SVO

The verts are awesome, I've always been a hard top or targa top kind of guy.

Oh yes pmq i love to dilute my oil with fuel,considering the fact that it literally is just a jet size to big i highly doubt i'm washing out my cylinder walls and causing harm to my engine.I may be building carbon up or fouling plugs but i'm really not worried about it.My foot is into it enough.
