No its not.All Q's I owned could burnout. There is something else for you to find, to uncork that extra performance.

Fred..:)

Lead me, Guru Fred :D

Its seems pretty bad, since my grandparents cadillac fleetwood can burn out more than my Q (LT1 SOHC low revving torque monster, mmmmmm)...... I am assuming a plenum job is in my future..... How does it rate with spark plugs??? I just hope thigns are a little easier to get to than the plugs.......

I can "feel" that the power is there, but I dont know where to start???!!!!

Wes - Go back and spend some time re-reading these posts... I recall you got a pretty detailed list a while back.

I don't mean to sound pissy - Sorry.

When you say "burnout", are you expecting your Q to light up the rear tires from a dead stop? Because that's not gonna happen. Mine will turn over 2-5 revolutions (butt gauge) and leave 0-3 feet of light tread residue. Most 94-95's aren't well-maintained enough to do so, and the 96 has a few less horsies to work with...

The sole 90-93 I drove would lay 2-5 feet of good tread on normal asphalt and squall like hell.. Unfortunately, it's owner sold it and bought a BIMMER. :(

Golf clubs out of the trunk is not an option :D

I dont expect it to do donuts or anything, but it wont even spin the tires, and sometimes when it does, it just squeaks them once or twice (maybe thrice :) )

I smell a plenum job in my future..... And ill go re-read my other threads.......

Just a quick question--- What do you do for a valve decarb???

I'm also interested in decarbing the engine.

mine will chirp the tires from a standing start. maybe with the thinner and lighter stock wheels and tires i could lay some serious rubber. donuts have never been a problem :D

Decarb simply involves connecting an aerosol decarb to a vacuum line (after engine reaches operating temp) and allowing the engine to run at idle... I like to run the rpm's up a little during this procedure just to help "blow out" the crap. Afterwards, take the car onto the freeway and open her up for a while. Several WOT runs from 0-100 should do it.

BTW, during this procedure, your car will emit enough foul-looking smoke from the pipes to blanket a city block. Best to do it on a windy day so as not to piss off the neighbors or alert the fire department. :D

Any recommended products??? I have heard about Top Engine Cleaner, made by GM..... I dont know the P/N right off hand, but it can be obtained at any GM dealer..... I may give it a try, unless you know of anything better :)

I assume that should clean my plenum to some degree also.... And would that help my burning situation (i would assume it would)

I am starting to think maybe the engine is being retarted due to running too hot, but my temp gauge is right in the middle, or just below the middle.....

I use Seafoam for the decarb diet. Once every 3k miles.

I prefer to do it at night so there won't be so many people on the road to inhale my smoke.

LOL I'm imagining a society of clandestine car enthusiasts, running around at night in the dark, performing maintenance on their cars!

Is that what everyone else uses??? Because I heard this TOP ENGINE CLEANER is really good, and cleans most combustion chamber deposits and valves....

Ok, an update.....Today I was in a parking lot, and wanted to dry and do a burn out.... Turned off the TCS, came to a COMPLETE stop, and punched it as hard as it will go, and it didnt even come close to a squeal..... Something is terribly wrong folks, and I want to fix it :(

Tire squeal is a POOR gauge of performance.

Go to the dealer, drop $100 and ask for a power balance test and a Consult diagnostic work-up. Then post the results here.

Too hard to tell what's up without this.

Most likely. You'll obviously have to call them to confirm.

FrEaK, the only reason your car can light 'em up is because it has bicycle tires. :D

Trot down to Pep Boys and buy the cheapest, hardest tire you can find. A little red wagon can turn those things over.

Don't forget to pump them up to the highest pressure your nerve will allow.

Overinflated, balding tires in wet weather make burnouts easy.

Set rear tires to about 38 psi and that'll improve your chances.

Also, LSD (limitied slip differential) is a limiting factor. If you start to spin one tire, power will be directed to other tire. Gotta burnout both sides at the same time...........

no freakin way, you've measured the width and it's really that wide (with your tire and wheel combo)? i think you've been putting too much gear oil on your waffles, mobil one of course :D

you have to remember that the 240 also has a 4.083 rear end, while we have the 3.538.
