Who in their right mind would ruin perfectly new factory blue paint by spraypainting it flat black?? I was amazed by the stupidity in their articles. They try to be funny and stuff, but they just sound like jackasses. It makes me rethink whether I want to renew my subscription(I probably will... but still)......

The STi makeover was pimp you know it...

In addition to leaving out porsche's altogether, no corvairs either (good catch Mr1der) it's interesting that a list that has a miata and Elise in it, had no MG's, Triumphs, Jag's, TVR's, Austin Healys, plus two of the 3 italian cars were never offered for sale in the US. I suppose the list needed more freakin' Omni's and Corrolla's.

The unstated, unofficial price cap probably kept out the Jags and TVRs (though it didn't keep out the Skyline, but HEY, if they didn't put all 3 fking generations of the ALL-MIGHTY GT-R in there, all the riceboys would probably quit reading the magazine...), but that doesn't excuse the absence of the MGs and Triumphs.

At any rate, they'll certainly have a lot of letters to read about that article in the coming month or so.

Not to mention the 3000GT/Dodge Stealth which weigh more than 10 of the Mazda Cosmo Sports combined. ;)

Anyway, I enjoyed the list. Like any other "top whatever" list, it's completely subjective. Besides, I kind of have a soft spot for the ugly, but fast little "Omni that could".

BTW, I did shed a tear for the beatiful World Rally Blue paint of that STI. Must say that I'm not a big fan of the flat black thing unless Mel Gibson's behind the wheel.

If you read the actual issue, the reference to the Celica is no joke. They're talking specifically about the ST165 ALL-Trac/GT4, which is one helluva ride.

My question is, where the hell do they get off calling the Toyota 2000GT the only real classic Japanese car? Where's the 1970's PGC-10 "Hakosuka" Skyline GT-R? The ORIGINAL GT-R! That thing dominated back in the day, and now clean examples of the 2-door can go for well in excess of $80k, which is 2000GT territory.

Hakosukas are just hands-down the coolest cars ever.

I have the issue, I just had some false pride for a second or two upon seeing "88-89 Celica" as #24 :D

I've been wanting an ST165 for years. It's a very strong possibility for my next project ('88 ST165, engine and trans from an ST185 or maybe even an ST205...)

I dunno, Checkers, I think the M3 would fall into Compact, sure, it's full on sport, but it's a little guy too, around the same size as civics...

can't argue the list is stupid though....it's like the had an initial d forum make it up...except the Omnis...I have no idea how they got in there...funny little **** wagons though, I'd drive one.

i dont think the list is that bad. i think they shouldve explained on what the basis for the list was made and who was allowed to vote, but other than that i thought it was kinda cool. i think it was based on a combination of price, availability, aftermarket support, and popularity. i realize there are millions of 240 drivers all over, but that number is probably dwarfed by the number of civic drivers/tuners. i was a little disappointed to see the dsm's rank in where they did, and the fact that some cars were the same thing (the talon TSi and eclipse GSX) but yet they are ranked on opposite ends of the list.

I dont see how the new Evo beat out the GT-R, RX-7, and Supra. Those three own the Evo.

someone said that the civic beat out the 240 since the 240 only gained popularity in the last few years---the friggin evo that got number one was a 2003!The NSX catn be more popular in numbers--its a freaking 30+ thousand dollar car even for the 92's. This list bites, and so does SCC. Not to mention--the evo ISNT more popular than the 240 in terms of the sport compact aftermarket---the onyl way ill understand how they camt o the conclusio is if i know what criteria they used to base this crappy list from.SCC is bandwagon, and bull****. they write articles for sales only--which is fine, buz they are in bussiness to do exactly that. But they try to pretend they are the authority on enthusiast rides. What a crock of ****---

t prove how dumb they are---PRoject silvia--12k and only 277 freaking rwhp--I rest my case.Morons.

You were doing ok up until there. Yes, SCC is a bandwagoning wonder, and that's exactly why Project Silvia "only" makes 277rwhp--it's a freaking drift car, and a very well setup one at that. You don't need eleventy billion hp to drift, but what helps is a whole lot of suspension work and an early delivering engine. Hmm...what did the majority of their mods consist of? Oh yeah, that's right--an amazing suspension setup and a quick-spooling Ball Bearing turbo that can still produce decent hp.

Maybe it was due to the EVO shootout? Those Evos are badass! Even though it just came out in 2003, you gotta remember that the 240 was once called a girl's car. That and it didnt sell too well. The 240s just got recognition a few years ago, but its in no way as popular as the Evo is. At least IMO.

LOL! :owned

Project Silvia is worth all that $$$ You gotta remember that quality parts arent cheap. 12K? Sounds good to me. Would I go the same route as them if I was building a 240? Probably not, but then again I dont have their budget.

They stated outright that their goal with Project Silvia wasn't to build a drag monster. It wasn't even to build a drift car (although it can be easily set up that way with some simple adjustments). In one of the earlier installments (the one where they installed the JIC coilovers) they stated, in so many words, that their goal was to be able to outrun Porsches and other such cars on the track.

Considering they've only spent what they've spent, I think they're doing pretty damn well.

And about the mag in general?? Come on, guys, what do you expect? Really. Think business here. Who reads SCC? True import enthusiasts like most of us on this forum, who put performance above everything else?? Well, yes, such people do read it. I had a subscription, and I still buy it, and there's not a sticker or neon to be found on my car ;) But who really reads SCC?? RICEBOYS. Sure, the magazine would be better to us enthusiasts if that top 100 list were a little different, or if there weren't an APC ad every other page, but for real: why would they completely ignore, like, 1/2 of their reader demographic?

For a magazine like that, a little bit of bandwagoning (like having a drift feature every issue) can make a whole lotta money. Quit trashin' the mag and focus on the good stuff :p

I just got it. It's my last issue and I think I'll resubscribe.

The S13 just does not have the popularity that the EG Civic does. I'm glad that it does not. Otherwise, I'd be thinking to myself, "Oh, look... it's another S13." when I see 25+ of them EVERY FREAKING DAY!!

After having gone back and read the replies in this thread, I need to post again. A few guys seem to be pretty down on the SCC crew. I can tell you from what I've seen hanging out with a few of them, and having some sense of what they are up to... those guys live and breath cars and motorsports. They get more high speed track time than I can guarantee every "I don't like SCC." poster in this thread has put together. They go to car shows to see what people are doing, they go to drift competitions to check it out and, like a lot of people on this board, ENJOY. They go on canyon cruises, and attend car meets.

The magazine is kind of a sellout, with regards to the structure of the articles and the content. Many of the articles are all about selling cars and products. Have you noticed that at the end of every article, they have an index of where they purchased all of the parts from?

I think anyone who begrudges the SCC guys because of their magazine is just a hater. The SCC guys happen to have found a way to make money off of doing what they like to do, and writing about it, and marketting it. They're automotive journalists, and they're better acquianted with the kind of driving that I like doing, than just about any other magazine out there.

the only comment i made is why there are so many "not" compact cars on that list. Evo and skyline aren't exactly "compact"

It's a pretty good mag based out of Austrailia. It's all about imported japanese vehicles, the hot ones. Plus they give you a cool poster of the cover car each issue. This month's issue is another black R33. The writers aren't retarded, the project cars are cool, they cover some events, and they almost always have articles where they go to Japan and check out Signals' latest project or visit another tuning shop or lots with tons of cool cars.
