Hey so i'm throwing on some new parts to my 240 and i was wondering what you guys think is a better exhaust for it. Both are going to be catbacks and i wanted to know which would be better and sounded better Megan or HKS? Thanks for your help.

Exhaust is exhaust, and long as the design does not restrict flow (clean bends, good baffle edges), and isn't too big or small. Yes too big is bad, and its not "because you need back pressure" back pressure is bad, but exhaust flow velocity is important, you want the exhaust to flow at the same rate as the incoming air. Na good 2.5 can support 250WHP an long as its not restrictive.

The BRM product is very nice, HKS high power ehh I'm not a huge fan, Megan is a fat irish girl

if i had the monek to throw away, id take the HKS over megan...but get a high flow cat conv. as well the only real gains you see in an aftermarket exhaust system is from a catless or highflow catted system. its the main restriction in the system.
jdm fart can for sound and looks, header/manifold and cat for function. in my book that is.

I'm running the HKS high power w/High flow cat and LOVE it! It's deep at idle and low revs and has a smooth but yet quite (not loud) tone to it through out the rest of the revs. Though with my setup I can hear the motor and exhaust due to the fact I have electric fans. But definitely HKS over Megan. But if your looking to support the club there's BRM.

Honestly, even if you got a muffler shop to weld one up for you it would be great and cheaper. Just use a Magnaflow muffler and a resonator if you're going straight pipe. No need in spending crazy money in a cat-back system.

The HKS will be a better product. Sound will probably be close to the same depending on the design. Make sure whatever you get has a resonator though.

Nothing more annoying than a drone whenever you're at cruising rpm's.

Is that catback or axle back with custom piping? I got the catback and it looks like i have to cut the hanger make them shorter and bend the tip for smaller angle to bring it up.

It's a catback system with resonator and high flow cat. I can take some more pics if your interested? Sorry Chondrogtp for the thread jack here.

Mines looks totally different. Then again i have 120mm tip and 95 mm piping or 85mm. What did you do to tuck the exhaust that well.

Don't be jealous of the gratuitous amounts of ear bleeding sex my exhaust puts out, just except the fact that my exhaust will rape you in the ear and take it with a smile. :boink:

Having cut up / disassembled a LOT of aftermarket catbacks, I can tell you this: The ONLY one that I'd recommend other than the one we build (BRM) is the HKS. That system and the RS*R were the two we benchmarked from.

I won't go into a long explanation of why most of the rest SUCK, but suffice it to say there's a lot of cheap Taiwanese work in a lot of those "uber-JDM" systems... If it needs a silencer, it's a turd. If it's got packing in the resonator, it's a turd. If it's excessively loud, it's a turd. If it's got mesh framework in the muffler, it's a turd. If it's advertised as "stainless steel" but some parts are NOT, it's a turd (Apex-i, I'm looking at you). If it's got anything "carbon fiber" on it, it's a turd. If it has LEDs, it's a turd.

:)

Here Ya go, and just to clarify this setup was made by the previous owner -
Downpipe to cat( Not the best welds :ohno:)
Image
Cat to resonator
Image
I don't have a pic of the resonator, apparently I didn't take one :gotme lol Resonator to muffler
Image
Forward hanger
Image
Rear hanger
Image
And here is another pic on how the muffler sits
Image

Judging by the welded cat and modded rear hanger I'm guessing that is what's making this system so close to the chassis, and I have only scraped my exhaust once on the street and it was my fault

Greg, you happen to look into Tanabe? Be interested in your thoughts, the SMR I have is great and think its one of the striaghtest exhausts out there. My only issue is it's high price and I would get BRM if doing it over again.
