I've been think about this alot lately. A 1st gen Miata with a SR swap. There are swap kits for this already on the market. These will run circles around any S-Chassis. Google the XXR / Autokonexion Miata so see one extreme example. The 240 is done to death. Go do something else.

Now this really pisses me off. The KA has dynamic tuning potential. Go do your homework before you start spewing crap like this.

Why do most people do the SR OR RB swap?

differ motor swaps is all about what you really want and how it fits your driving style and needs. I don't care if it's domestic into imports or vice versa, as long as it gives the result that YOU wanted. I hate closed minded people that always throw out useless excuse "it's nissan keep it nissan." It's cool if you want to build a classic and restore it to it's original form but not for motorsport purposes. The 2JZ into the camero few months back was pure badass. On the other hand there are lemmings that have no idea what they want so they just followed what people tell them it's good or trendy;sad but so true, especially the 240/drift crowd.

Why do you think.... yes the KA has alot of potential but if you dont know what your doing then it your just going to end up with a blown motor..... also to turbo it is hard to find one that is in good enough condition and most people ill think a rebuild is a waste of money. So they do an SR or RB swap because they are fast stock motors that come turboed. You should really do some researched before you come in here making dumb**** comments if you don't really know anything. PLZ dont buy a 240

Anyway...I hear that nissan makes solid engine blocks that can withstand high horsepower. Is that true with any of the 240 engines? What is the highest horsepower numbers someone has got with a stock or built bottom end?

I have an S14 SR20DET so that's the engine I can speak for. Nissan does make some very solid engines but you have to treat them right. On a stock bottom end, I have been advised that i should not take the SR above 350 wheel horsepower or else I'm starting to sacrifice its reliability. Now that 350 is just with a stock bottom end, it will require a different turbo, a tuned or standalone ECU, and some other engine goodies that don't require you to tear the block apart. The same person that advised me has a mildly tuned, built SR20 with a GT3076 that has just over 470 wheel horsepower and the potential for a whole lot more. I know there are people who have gotten a lot more horsepower out of their cars then that, all I know for sure though is that both of those numbers, 350 stock bottom and 470 built are on cars that are very reliable and below the threshold where things begin to break.

And to the original question of which S-chassis will turn the most heads on the street, well it all depends. Each one can turn heads if done right. If you've seen Broadfield's S13 you would agree that that car will turn heads. An S13.5 will also turn heads and I have seen some that are just drop-dead gorgeous. S14 Zenki's will most likely not turn heads, but done right they can. S14 Kouki's will definitely turn heads. With a nice drop and a good kit they slightly resemble the R34 skyline. What's my point here? There is no right answer to the original question. Each 240sx model can and does turn heads, and each has the ability to turn the most heads if done right.

If you keep it clean and nice wheels I will be sure to look One thing I hate the most is overly lowered a street car. There is no purpose whatsoever in doing so. You won't turn, brake, or accelerate better and not to mention the constant risk of damaging parts and yet people still do it...I don't get it at all. Simply moronic

I more fond of the 91-94 240 convertibles than any other model 240. They always turn my head... especially with a nice black paint job. The 94-95 models are pretty blah. Lots of cars looked like them. One model Mazda in particular looks like a clone. The 97-98's do look more aggressive and demand a look. Face it...all you see is exterior...paint,wheels,body. If those three are tasteful and not overly done ,I'll look. I do hate mufflers you can see for 500 yards. I like the sleeper look..no wings..no flashy paint,no stickers.

Im sry but really...... everyone has told you time and time again SEARCH, don't ask everyone to do it for you. This forum has so much info on it most questions have been answered over and over again. I'm not trying to be hostile but you are being very dense and sry if this isnt what you want to hear but plp come onto this forum asking the same questions time and time again. Research doesn't mean ask us.. it means search, if there is something you cant find then it is understandable if you need to make a post about it.

You got that right. I did all that many years ago and learned the hard way..in my pockets. Cars that are lowered to far just fall apart and cost more money and time to fix. I agree with you. a nice clean car with some nice wheels and a mild kit will look good. Thanks.

Cool. You don't know the attention I get from people when I drive. People go nuts over my car.

You know who likes my car the most? Fellow 240 owners. They love it when I open and close the top in front of them.

I love Miata in any shape and form. A buddy of mine at work owns 1st gen with AGX+Flying Miata springs, and I get to drive it sometimes. He doesn't mind if I floor it or make sharp turns and oh boy, that thing is a monster.

Yeah, me too... I hate when ppl dismiss cars like the MX-5 or MR-S as chick cars (Hell, and the 240sx, too once upon a time!).... These cars have tons of potential. And when I heard about ppl swapping in SR's? OMG... thats dope. I'm no SR bandwagon guy, but that motor has far more ability and a better foundation than any stock Miata motor I know of. And it wouldn't increase the weight like a V8 swap would...

bentandbuzzin wrote:I Know the 240 had a crappy engine. This would be the first thing i would trash and replace with a built jdm engine. As for looks...i don't like all those outragouse body kits that makes cars look like space ships or fighter planes. I like it when the car is clean with its original body maybe some minor added to it just to give it that finishing touch. Some people go way overboard with the exterior.
1.) No S-chassis USDM or JDM has come with a crappy engine. You want to turn heads turn that "coal" into "diamonds", That is one of the most impressive things anyone can do to an automobile when modding and tuning.

2.) I happen to like the space ship look when speaking about the interior of the car. Gauges and different electronics everywhere. There are tasteful ways of doing it. As far as exterior goes no, you are right to think that IMO.

Every single car ever made was/is beautiful to someone. You need to know that and remember that.

Everyone has an OPINION on a lot of the things you are asking questions about."Opinions are like @$$ Holes everyone has them and they all stink"Only take opinions and advice in certain instances. IE: Quality of a product or fitment on different things, SOME times how it performs but everyone has different driving styles and NO one has the EXACT same set up for driving. What may be to sloppy for someone may be just perfect for you. Do some searching the see what YOU like. Then take what you have learned and apply it. Express yourself through YOUR car.

Now when i read your first post i was under the impression that you are going to get something Build it up make it reliable and modified to an extent and just sell it. I thought that was a great idea, only if you were going to be placing a lot of time and money into each one that you do. Maybe even have a signature sticker to slap on the ECU after you finish each project.

But i was wrong it will be for personal gain, Which is also cool but just remember who has to drive it.

I will not bash you for making this thread because there are so many pointless threads, Whats one more. You SEEM sincere about really wanting to make a nice work of art. So do it.Some things you don't need to ask, you can search and no one has told you that there is a big search button at the top that is very helpful, but now you know. Sometimes when you are searching for something you will come across information you were not even looking for that will also be very helpful to you. So have fun don't take anything personal and get out there and save a Nissan.

One Love,

Ghasty
