Hi guys,

I am 17 and wanted to know as to where i can start my drifting "career". i am in central pa and i need something within 4 hours or so for now. Club loose seems to be a pretty cool event and it's a 17 and over club. It seems like everywhere is 21 and up for liability issues i guess. I went to this years hin/nopi in englishtown and met a couple guys from slide attack and i think some of them if not all go to club loose. They obviously are doing group a where i am going to be just doing the beginner events for now until i get the funds to get a roll cage and what not. Insight anyone?

School parking lot. Preferably one that has a Jeep Liberty in it.

Don't waste your time trying to make drifting a career. Hobby? Sure. Career? Good luck.

I know as a 17 yr old, the temptation to do it on public streets or a private parking lot is great, but you have to recognize it's illegal.

Since you're in central PA, if you turn 18 by early May, you're welcome to drift with us legally at NICOfest Carlisle at the Carlisle Fairgrounds during their Performance and Style show. No experience necessary. There are awlays experienced drifters there willing to give pointers. We do it every year there.

Yeah the Carlisle course is narrow for drifting, but it's legal and free (my favorite 4 letter F word). :dblthumb:

not making fun of you personally, but you are in an age group where many of your peers would not hesitate to explore their cars' limits on public roads.

Tokyo Yo!!!

Jk, but say clubloose or padrift. I dont no very much about pa drift but Im pretty sure its free and its a figure 8.
Now clubloose, you have to be 17 so your good there, I would go to as many wensday nights as you can, they have at the last wensday of every month, and if you want to get tons of seat time you can go on the road course but you need a diff, coilovers, and working ebrake and you have to stay on the back course. When you start out you will be in the c-class and when they see you improved you will get bumped up to b-class which means you can drift the full course. And what car are you going to drift?

Wow, I would have expected this thread to be much worse by now.

My advice (I'm 17 too) is to experience all forms of driving before you get your heart set on drifting. In my opinion it's pretty much just synchronized swimming, lol. It's fun to watch/do but other types of driving can encompass many more aspects.

Before you start your drifting "career" (lol), check out things like:

Autocross
Grip driving
Drag racing
Rally

Even go-karts or something. Just try it all. All the skills you gain in those other disciplines will help with your drifting skills as well, and vice-versa.

Does anyone know that sometimes when quotes are used they can be false titles. just because i am 17 doesn't mean i am stupid. i agree pretty much everyone at my age is stupid, but i didnt present myself in such away that made me seem. i realize there are other forms of driving. i have been to a couple of autox events and i have owned my fair share of go carts. iam not your average moronic 17 year old that goes "yoooooooooooooo i wanna go drifting yo because they did it in tokyo drift yo! if that hot chick can do it i totally can!! iam going to get a rx7 just like that" (okay guys these quotes are used here to show a person saying this, not me but an average moronic 17 year old). I am going to be drifting and racing a 240sx s13 hatch. iam going to end up building the ka and going ka-t. ka>sr. Also ka>rb20 because there is less cylinders and its just more cost effective. I have a '87 300d mercedes that i have converted to run on veggie oil that i get from a local restaurant. Thats my daily driver. Ive owned 2 240's already but i dont have one at the moment. A family friend is selling me his s13 hatch with a brand new ka but the body(quarter panels) is rusty. Also you cant say now "this kid gets his money from my parents" because not one penny has came from them. I am a tech guy in search of a past time lol. I fix electronics right now... so thats my story.

Start by selling all your clothes and jewelry and keep only one pair of ratty jeans and a t-shirt.

Stick your thumb out at your local freeway and ride it till you get to nowhere. Then do random odd-jobs and live in abandoned buildings.

Now you're a professional drifter. yay.

First off, retake 3rd grade grammar. It kind of takes away from your argument of being intelligent.

But really, have you gotten behind the wheel and experienced any kind of high performance driving? Or is all this just "wishful thinking" of what you think is going to happen in the future? Maybe you should acquire the car first.

PS. No one really cares what engine you're going to use. Most of the dudes here have been around the block MANY times and heard your kind of story even more. No one is going to really pay attention until you start DOING, instead of telling.

Dude what the f*** are you talking about. No one was making fun of you because you were 17. Az was just trying to help, he didnt say s*** like "Wow you fanboy your a idiot and want to drift even before you raced." no he was saying try doing diffrent things before drifting because you might like it more and it will improve your driving skills

He sure does have a great 17 year old idea, tho... LOL I was thinking he should buy a 17 year old 240 and complete the trifecta of awesomeness.

Or both in the form of F125. 125cc shifter karts that are faster than any car on course.

and they are NOT the place to learn how to drive

if you want to kart and learn start with a briggs and stratton or at LEAST a slower TAG kart.

jumping in head first into a vehicle that rivals performance of high end open wheel race cars is NOT a game.

lol... I started on a 125. Hardest part about learning to drive it was not bogging the start. After that you pace yourself until you can at least hang with the back-markers.

Hurting yourself on a solo 2 course is rather hard. Mainly you just go off course a ton because you dont have the reaction time yet.

And get kicked off course. We (and just about every association I've been around) boot drifters.

I was in my trackmagic at 15. Not so much age but a respect for the machine.

F125 for SCCA starts at 18 years old (just one year later). Like I said, on a solo 2 course it's nearly impossible to hurt yourself on a kart. You'll be more of a nuisance instead at first instead of a danger, spinning and stalling and causing the cone runners to have to run over to your and push start you and wind up having a 2 minute run on a 50 second course. You run in your class group, and whenever karts are on course they're always given plenty of room before the next kart is sent out. The brakes on the karts are nearly as good as the throttle and since you dont have a ton of weight, your inertia isn't going to be near the point of not being able to stop promptly.

Honestly, a 17-18 year old in a car is a far bigger danger than in a kart, to both himself and to others. I've almost been hit by folks driving cars going off course or losing control, never had a kart come anywhere near me.
