I was going to stay out of this, but a comment like that elicits a response. You know absolutely NOTHING about high performance driving. NOTHING.

All the games in the world wont make you a good driver. A simulation can help you learn lines, and stratigy, but it does nothing for car control which is more important than anything else. Fast drivers dont consciously try to control the car, its all muscle memory. The only way to do this is, is years of practice.

Take it from me, I have logged a few track hours, a few auto cross hours, lots of rally cross hours, and about 10 times all of those practising on paved and gravel roads on private land, and I have just scratched the surface of my own potential.

You are young and cocky and its going to get you in trouble. Shut your mouth, take a step back, and think before you speak.

You, sir, know nothing about sarcasm. The joke is on you. :mike

yeah right, it would be like drifting a sc. You gotta love 2x more torque than hp. Trying to see how it works out towing my 240 to the track. I was doing some research and they say it tows small rv's fine. Its got like 250 ft/lb. so, i am thinking it could tow a 240 on a trailer with its own brakes.

sorry, i had to edit because i wasn't trying to double post...

You seem like a solid kid, with more growing up to do. Take everyone's advice, and I can't give any because it's already been given. BUT!, you need to lube your a** if the quote below is any kind of sign that you can't take a bit of heckling. You honestly haven't seen ANYTHING on NICO that counts as flaming if you can't take a little crack at your age.
lmarcucci7 wrote:Does anyone know that sometimes when quotes are used they can be false titles. just because i am 17 doesn't mean i am stupid. i agree pretty much everyone at my age is stupid, but i didnt present myself in such away that made me seem. i realize there are other forms of driving. i have been to a couple of autox events and i have owned my fair share of go carts. iam not your average moronic 17 year old that goes "yoooooooooooooo i wanna go drifting yo because they did it in tokyo drift yo! if that hot chick can do it i totally can!! iam going to get a rx7 just like that" (okay guys these quotes are used here to show a person saying this, not me but an average moronic 17 year old). I am going to be drifting and racing a 240sx s13 hatch. iam going to end up building the ka and going ka-t. ka>sr. Also ka>rb20 because there is less cylinders and its just more cost effective. I have a '87 300d mercedes that i have converted to run on veggie oil that i get from a local restaurant. Thats my daily driver. Ive owned 2 240's already but i dont have one at the moment. A family friend is selling me his s13 hatch with a brand new ka but the body(quarter panels) is rusty. Also you cant say now "this kid gets his money from my parents" because not one penny has came from them. I am a tech guy in search of a past time lol. I fix electronics right now... so thats my story.

Why would you tow your car? Is it that unreliable? There is no chance of crashing unless you get bumped up to b-class which I highly doubt you will. And I dont picture the outcome of towing your s13 with a small big car a good idea.

I think he meant using the S13 to tow a small RV like a quad, which is shortsighted. If you're gonna beat the crap out of an 18 yr old car drifting all afternoon, even if there are no barriers to hit, the risk of something breaking can't be ignored. So it would be wiser to tow the vehicle to/from the track. But to make the drift car a tow vehicle as well increases your risk of having two vehicles to tow home instead of one if something happens.

I know as a 17 yr old, the temptation to do it on public streets or a private parking lot is great, but you have to recognize it's illegal.

Since you're in central PA, if you turn 18 by early May, you're welcome to drift with us legally at NICOfest Carlisle at the Carlisle Fairgrounds during their Performance and Style show. No experience necessary. There are awlays experienced drifters there willing to give pointers. We do it every year there.
Best bet by far. Carlisle is a great time. Also, driftpa.com

Ehh I would take my chances. They have tons on spare parts at drift events and its pretty gay towing you car to the track if it stock. But I only live like 20 mins from e-town so it doesnt matter that much, but even if the track was far away I would still drive it.

I would only do that because my mercedes runs on vegetable oil and its a sedan. so, i can go to a track, say, 5 hours away, bring friends(comfortably) for free. Now you could argue that the 240 is good on gas at around 25 mpg stock. But, if iam going to be taking it to the track every other week i wouldn't want to be paying $100 every time just to look cool.

You have to understand though, its not completely beyond the realm of reality for a kid to join the forum and say all of that while being completely serious. :chuckle:

FYI, RV is a general term for recreational vehicle, which include small off road vehicles like a quad in addition to camping trailers.

Regarding trailers pulled by small cars, many people, in cars as small as miata's, tow mini trailers with race tires/tools. It's a very common sight if you run Rcompound tires. If you are a drifter on a budget, hauling in extra tires on a mini trailer is not a bad idea as you eat rear tires so quickly. Yes, an S13 hatchback can hold tires, but you can't haul passengers plus you have to deal wth the smell..

As far as towing a car trailer with a ordinary sedan like an old Mercedes diesel, you better check your owners manual for its towing capacity. I suspect it might not be rated high enough for that kinda use. Remember it's not just the weight of the car you're hauling, you must also add the weight of the trailer plus whatever other stuff you put in/on it. There's more to towing than just torque.

I take my car to the track regularly, and I always tow it to/from, and it's not to look cool, though my tow vehicle does draw more attention than my car. I do it because the cost to tow it home just once from a far away track like VIR is the same as what I paid for the tow vehicle.

Not to steal the thread but after 4 years finally someone has asked!

It was a little project I did back in the Summer of 2006. I'm not actually the person in the watermelon as I was 14 at the time. Heres some pictures we took at the mall and walmart. Myspace was fairly new at the time and we were trying to build up a character. Every so often Ill go into a store and someone will recognize me from back then.
