Yeah, I think this is sort of like the Jeep thing... and because of my 240, yes, I do understand.

The reason I love my 240 is because, I think it's hawter than my best friends mom... and the body panels are cheaper to replace than those on the Z3. Not to mention its better suspension layout.

I must say the most discouraging thing ever is getting all 4 wheels back on the ground, finishing up the battery wiring, cranking it, putting it in gear, and then realize the front rotors are crooked, meaning the brakes are engaged permanantly.

so what you just did then?

id have to say thats a true statement, when its all finally done and youve worked so long both on it, and saving to buy everything and stuff...id certainly agree with that

brilliant!
It just occured to me that you probably won't have to take such drastic measures.

Yeah, the brackets holding the calipers don't have the right size spacer on them so the caliper sit to far in and makes the rotor crooked.

i see, how easy of a fix will that be?

by the way, i saw on your car domain that those are 17x8.5, +32, and youre running a 255/40-17 i see from this picture? how much camber are you running to fit this? did you have to roll/pull, etc.?

Concerning the brakes...I'm going to have to devise some spacers for them unless Chris at Underground Motorsports has a solution. Hopefully he does since I got them from him and I'm not going to rule out an error on my part just yet.

As far as my Mustang territory wheels go...They need the fenders rolled out just a tad to be flush. Otherwise there doesn't appear to be much camber in the front but I haven't gotten an alignment yet. According to Chris at UMS I didn't need anything to make them clear the insides. I just got my steering wheel back on though (had the infamous bad headlight switch) and haven't checked how they do at full lock underload.

good luck with the brakes

and let me know how the tire clearance works, im looking at getting 17x8.5 +22 wheels and im trying to figure out what size tire to run without excessive camber, im willing to pull/roll fenders and run a little camber, but i dont want my tires to wear out too quick

Oh I just saw that you have an '89 as well Nismofly. You appear to have the lip though. Lucky. I may do the S14 lip like what is being discussed in general.

225/50 is what fits my Z3. I just saw that the Tire Rack has some Pirrelis on special in this size for around 95 bucks a pop. It seemed like a good deal to me.Edit: This ^ is concerning the K1's on your car domain site.

What's wrong with the K1's?

I see. If I had to do it over agian I wouldn't go 5 lug. I've seen way to many good deals pop up in the for sale section here on 4 lug JDM wheels to justify the cost of the conversion.

Oh, just in case you missed it I updated my previous post... it's a little easier to figure out now.

Oh my... that one wasn't nearly as bad as this one. Wait... what did this one start with again?

*goes to check*

Ok.... So it is pretty bad but at least the guy knows his proverbial car won't be that fast stock.

On another note, "Modified Rice."Even the French would say "I like it."

Wow, there hasn't been a reply to this thread since 8:23pm yesterday.

By the way, if he did buy a mountain bike I hope he isn't posing on some other forums saying he can do this on his Huffy.

alright back to CVTs. I'v always thought that it would be cool if someone made a manually controled CVT that had a clutch. Shouldn't be too hard I would think. In fact, it may be possible to convert an existing CVT into one that you can control with some sort of lever. Also, I would like to mention that I thought of the idea of a CVT around 2 years before I heard of one. That was probably years after someone else already started making one though.

On another note, when I'm racing, I always put the sunroof in the tilted position to get more downforce. I also double clutch just like Vin Diesel.

When I'm racing I drive my real car. Here it is in my super big and dramatically lit garage.

By the way... I don't know jack about CVT transmissions. Just seems like something else to go wrong. I wouldn't trust them any more than I would trust an automatic when racing.

Any opinions about whether I should take the power steering out of my 240?

Update on my brake issue for anyone interested. I finally got in contact with UMS. I'm awaiting a response... had to send the e-mail to his other account but he knows about my problem now.

I drove my mom's neon without power steering for about a month. I think it was noticably faster, but not by much. However, that car is 400 lbs lighter than the 240sx and I'm pretty sure that you have to turn the steering wheel more for the same amount of turning of the wheels when compared to the 240sx. It was the most fun I've had in that neon though. Parking was the only time I thought that having power steering would have been better. By the way, nice car, you're missing a few hundred stickers though.

I think deleting the system might net me something close to 50 pounds of wieght reduction. The miata guys dial in a ton of caster and get away with it easily... or so I've heard. They use a smaller steering wheel too, which I already have.

A few hundred stickers? Nope, just one politically incorrect sticker for me. Thanks though.

A simple way to see if you are OK without power steering is to just take off the belt that powers the power steering pump. Drive around like that for a week or two and if you don't mind it, take out the whole system. Also, I think I got more feedback in the neon when it had no power steering. And yeh, 50lbs is a good amount of weight.

Hey Nismofly I got the car moving today... though I don't trust the brakes yet. I just put a couple of washers on each bolt so I could move it and turn it around.

I noticed a bit of tire rub on the front. I'll probably order a 10mm hubcentric spacer set and roll the fenders. I figure that should do it. I'll post this in the suspension forum and make sure before I do anything though. I'm just happy to have the car facing a direction where I can work on the front now.
