Yes! Motorcycle saftey and riding classes are the best to take. I had some riding experience before I got my endorsement but I took the classes both beginners then advace. It helped out alot. Doesn't cost much at all either.

the ducati and agusta sports are nice, but THE bike to have this year is - THE BODYGUARD

Moto Guzzi GRISO

part cruiser, part super sport, part naked, part muscle, all BAD.

Also, if you like the looks of the Agust and Ducati sports, peep the neo-supersport look of the

Moto Guzzi Serie- talk about beautiful lines

Ooooh - I LOVE that first one... Reminds me a little of one of my previous bikes: 1986 V-Max (fastest production vehicle in the world for that year).

Had a 1989 Yamaha Radian, a 1985 Honda Interceptor and a 1981 Suzuki GS - All beautiful in their own way.

So, have we beat a dead horse to death on this thread yet? I say the sv650 is an awesome first bike! Plenty of low end torque to get it moving from stops (less likely to kill it), naked bike (no fairings really to mess up) and u can find used ones cheap. Plus has pretty descent power so u wont get bored of it after 3 months. U can learn on bigger bikes. It just has a harder learning curve. No one starts out driving a F1 car, however u could learn on one, it would just be harder than Ford ranger.

hey AZ,

I was looking mad max when I saw the griso. I wanted a belligerent bike and I was going to get the v-max till I saw the GRISO.

Anyhow, I wont get either now. I am a beginner and when I asked about owning a v-max (10.5 quarter mile) as a first bike, I got about 80 replies telling me that I would kill myself in no time at all.

According to owners, Mad max is a mad beast and should be treated as such. It is a great looking muscle bike though

J-Z,I am glad to hear your pop's is making you take the rider safety course. I wish someone had made me. Also, glad to hear you are gonna get gear. Buy top dollar, trust me on that one. You do get what you pay for.

And remember no matter how good you are or get, watch your back. Those cage drivers are out to kill you, even if they don't know it. Smack a Cadilac at 50 mph and that becomes all too clear. Hurts too. :D

J-Spec, I hear ya. "Don't bend, Don't break, and Don't back down," Jon Bon Jovi.

I would have like to have that web site a few years ago.

Man I love this site. We have better motorcycle debates than on the motorcycle sites. Ain't NICO great. We can discuss anything, wheter we agree or disagree.

j-spec, i know you stand behind what you say and i stand behind what i say. we both have different opinions. comparing a motorcycle to an airplane is way out of proportion. all motorcycles have two wheels, both front and rear disc, most of em have 6 gears and a kick stand. some are just faster and handle more precise over other bikes. jester, im taking the class on my own. although my dad did say i have to take but i was gonna take it in the first place anyways. already have gear here, i just need a really nice leather jacket. and like i said earlier im not worried about me riding, im worried about all the other non driven assses out there. guess what? im probably taking the class with my mom cause she wants to ride too lol. she wants a crotch rocket, can you ****ing believe that? shes a 40 year old martha stewart for christ sake. itll be fun though. i asked my dad earlier how long hes been riding for and he said since 14. so thats roughly 42 years. i also asked him if he thought i would have any problems at all starting out on his fizzy. he said after i take that class i will have no problem. ive been asking him questions lately because of this thread. ive been saying everything on my own from my perspective, till now cause im sharing what my 56 year old veteran riding father has to say. first i asked him if he thought one bike was safer over another, his reply was no. and the next words that came out of his mouth were "theyre all equally dangerous". im not saying these things to prove anybody wrong here but just to give a perspective of what a pro whos been riding for 42 years thinks. do you really think that my dad would even think about me riding his bike if i wasnt capable of doing so? my dad is as wise as i am if not wiser (if thats a word?). i just done see how one can think one motorcycle that has two wheels is safer over another bike that has two wheels. anything can happen no matter what bike youre riding. the risk is there on every bike. but hey everyone has their own opinion and thats fine with me. i do have a question that just pondered upon me. j-spec have you ever ridin before?

http://www.beginnerbikes.com

The longer they've been riding the more they have lost sight on what it is to be a beginner. I was talking to the owner of kissell motorsports (http://www.kissellmotorsports.com/) in state college PA on wednesday and friday and he flat out refuses to sell a 600cc bike to anyone who hasnt ridden before. I asked his opinion of the ducati monster 620 (618cc, 60hp) and he said it is way too much bike for a beginner. Sixty horsepower. You want a bike that makes over 100 horsepower. This is coming from a guy who sells, buys, rides, lives and breaths bikes. This guy has ridden more bikes than your dad could ever hope to own.

http://www.beginnerbikes.com

To anwser your question, NO, i have never ridden a bike before, and I'm not STUPID enough to hop on a fast sportbike as my first. Have you even looked at http://www.beginnerbikes.com? Or are you just too damn cool? Just like your too damn cool for a 250cc bike?

http://www.beginnerbikes.com

Saying all bikes are equally dangerous is the most ignorant statement i have ever heard. Am I going to wipe out at 160mph on a 50cc scooter? Am i going to flip over my handlebars from pressing the brakes too hard on a virago 250? Am i going to flip a CB250 from laying on the throttle in first gear? A sport bike will suck you up and spit you out if you out the instant you do one little thing wrong at speed. Starter bikes are TEN THOUSAND TIME MORE FORGIVING. Starter bikes ARE safer, weather your too blind to see it or not. I have a whole website that backs up my argument:

http://www.beginnerbikes.com

If you want a REALISTIC list of starterbikes:

there ya go making assumptions of my actions, AGAIN. lol how do you know how many bikes my dads ridden? thats stupid to say cause you have no clue man. youre pretty damn ignorant for making assumptions of how i will ride, thinking im too cool to ride a 250, and thinking im to cool to visit the site youve posted 30 times. damn i dont think ive ever seen anyone on this site as ignorant as you. you dont know me so stop making assumptions of how i am or how i act/will act you tool. i think you should go back and read what youve been posting cause you need to calm down. seriously, its uncalled for.

should the new 180 hp, 397 lb Yamaha R1 be made illegal to all riders?

Discuss.

My car has 150hp and weighs 3300 lbs in comparison.

Illegal? No. Only availible to very experienced riders (AKA, profficiency testing/special license)? Yes, Along with all other liter sport bikes. Kind of like how you have to have a class 3 firearms license to use a automatic rifle.

Having ridden what is arguably the baddest bike ever produced for mass consumption, I'd be inclined to agree with Jspec. My starter bike was a 81 Suzuki GS550, and it was perfect to learn on. Laid it down twice while still a n00b, and never had another accident after that (that was my fault).

Either way, there'll be no more arguing on this topic. Buy whatever you want, no one cares. Besides, everyone's invicible at your age.

Back on topic: Is the R6 not the most amazingly perfect package on the road today? I climb on one after not riding for almost seven years, and within 10 minutes I'm pulling 50-yd wheelies and cornering like a madman - what a perfectly balanced and intuitively-designed bike.

The R6 is a kick butt bike. Great power, handling, balance.

Trying to think if I ever rode an R6??? Can't remember...

I owned:92 Katana 7502000 Harley Davidson sporster 1200 sport. P.O.S.99 SV65097 TL1000S

Have riden, that I can remember:

97 ZX9R old CBR1000 (80 something model.)Couple of other Kan-Tuna 600's and ZX9R's.Can't remember if I rode any others....

EDIT:Rode a CBR600F2 and an F3. Not much for Honda's but they were alright.

AZhitman: Yes the R6 is an incredible machine, but have u ever ridden a late model liter bike? They have some kickass suspention and gobs of low end torque, u may have some fun ;)

LongrunQ: Why make it illegal, what law is it breaking? I dont remember there being a law on your hp/weight ratio. But to put your mind at ease the govt. has stepped in. High performance bikes (the hayabusa was first, along with the zx-12r) have a govner on them to limit their speed to 186mph, r u satisfied?

Had a Tuano sitting next to me at a light, very humbling. I like my Hornet 600(599 in the states) she eats corners for breakfast and the detuned CBR600 F3 motor exhaling through the Titanium muffler on mine screams like a banshee in the upper RPMs. I recommend it to beginners or guys who want a good handling all around bike, it's forgiving nature has saved my *** many times.I love that it's so rare around here, the 400-750 riders are always slipping thinking I'm on the 250:D

Anyone see the thing on the V Rod last night? pretty cool stuff. i think the V ROd is one of the better looking harleys out now. I LOVE the older design of bikes, from the 40s and such. but the v rod isnt bad looking.

They are definately a great starter bike, I own a red one that was dirt cheap $1700 in '02 the bike is a '00. It was a lot of fun in the beginning but you realize quickly just how slow that bike really is once you ride something better.

I will probably save up for a Ducati 996 and if I cannot manage to scrape enough cash maybe I'll get a Yamaha YZF-R1

hey scientist,

I love the looks of the 599, and I love the smoothness of Honda engines.

How would it fit a bigger man, say one who is 6-5 , 280lbs?
