What did you drive before your versa and why'ld you switch?

Before I got my V I was driving a 1997 Suzuki Swift HB. I just sold it yesterday. I'm a little sad to see it go but I needed a reliable car to get me to work and as great as the swift was (especially on gas) it had some issues.

I was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma 4x4. It was nice to have $0 car payment for a few years but after putting $2,000 into engine work then less than a year later needing to put another $1,000 just to have it pass inspection, I decided to let it go with 136,000 miles on it.

I went for the Versa for it's MPG as I drive 80 miles a day to/from work and all the techy features. So far so good with 1,800 miles on it other than sliding off the road on some ice which I am still waiting for a replacement bumper for...

I just traded in a 2006 Tacoma double cab (owned 1 1/2 years) on a Versa SL. WIth gas prices heading north and a baby on the way it just made sense. I was able to cut my monthly payment by $175.00 plus the savings on gas. The Tacoma held its value really well and after the payoff provided $2700 in equity towards the Versa. I will miss the truck, but I enjoy driving the Versa. The Bluetooth, Intelligent Key, aux input, CVT, and seats all make it feel less like driving an economy car.

I drove a 2001 Acura CL-S, Sports Coupe. When I moved to Panama I looked at (used) Audi's and BMW's as a replacement since they don't sell Acuras here. But the reliability and economy of a new vehicle tipped the scales in favor of the Tiida. The only thing I really miss is the nav system.

I had a '96 Ford Probe - base model SE with no frills. It had 240,000 miles but it ran well and averaged 35mpg. But I need reliability to drive 3,000 miles per month, and enough little things about the Probe made me nervous about upcoming expenses that I sold it to a neighbor for $500 and bought me a luxury car - a Versa SL with CVT! I got it in September and right now it's got about 21,500 miles on it. I'm quite happy with it, even though it gets 2-3mpg less than the Probe. It's so much quieter, smoother and luxurious that it's worth it to me.

A 99 Chevy Cavalier. It had more issues than a nut house. From the front bumper to the muffler. It seemed every other I had to fix something. I miss it sometimes, but im glad I know longer have to repair things for a while.

Oldest car so far in this little survey... I had a 1995 Ford Escort. It had relatively low miles - only about 115K -- but like some other folks here I was concerned about upcoming big repair expenses. It had a slow oil leak that my mechanic said would be nearly impossible to track down. In the almost 12 years of ownership there had been enough other expenses... including a few head-slappers that made me wonder if engineers or a bunch of Shakespeare-writing monkeys designed that car. I could not be happier with the Versa SL hatch... well, I guess I could be. The only thing the Versa doesn't do quite as well is gas mileage. It's running 3-4 miles less than the Escort, but seems to get slightly better with every tank.

'02 Cavalier... Bought it when I was in school. I will never buy a North American vehicle again. It was affordable not what I wanted. Traded it for what I could on the V.

I had a 1994 Taurus stationwagon with a 3.0 Liter V6 that should have put out greater amounts of horsepower, but was geared for torque and only produced 130 HP.

It was a piece, and died 17 times on me before I could convince my family to cosign for me, which I ended up not needing after all... go figure...

The transmission had been fixed 6 times under warranty from Mr. Transmission. Only take your car to the dealership for transmission or serious engine problems...

I currently have an 88 Pontiac Sunbird that I'm looking to replace with the Versa. It's only got about 76K miles on it, but I just want something newer and more reliable and I feel in love with the Versa at first sight...

2004 Honda Accord Coupe (4cyl auto) - Great car, but rode a little stiff, had no trunkspace or rear seat room, I missed driving a manual and it only got 18-20mpg around town ... but got 33-35 on the freeway. I wanted a more mature car.

Ironically, I got engaged and grew-up and got a more practical car. The Versa isn't perfect but is easier to drive around town, has a useable rear seat and more functional trunk space, gets 24-26 around town (although only 30-33 on the freeway), and is more fun to drive. I also reduced my payments by almost $100.

Before that I had a '03 Corolla 5 speed, and prior ot that a 1991 Tercel with 4 speed manual.

2004 Kia Optima LX V6. Pretty powerful car, and a lot of features for the price. Didn't get great gas mileage (21 mpg around town, 27 on cruises), so I bought the Versa because I started driving for a living.

The V was great on gas (averaged 30), but between the accident and the various problems it had, I couldn't rely on it.

1993 Honda Civic ex 5speed. Gave it to my mechanic with 293,000 miles on it and he's STILL driving it! I LOVE my Versa - but that doesn't mean I don't miss my Honda

2006 Altima V6. Katrina screwed me there. It uses premium fuel. Granted you could use regular but the money saved on cost went away with the horrible gas mileage on regular. The Versa saves me a few hundred a month total, it's safer, and not nearly as friendly with my left foot which is good considering I had a son after buying the Altima.

My last car was, and still is 'cause I haven't sold it, a 99 New Beetle Turbodiesel. It gets great gas (diesel) mileage, and the turbo is a blast on the highway.

But I had to buy a new car 'cause my youngest grew another inch taller, like 6' 7" and he didn't fit in the back seat.

I miss the fuel economy, I miss the heated seats, I miss the outside temperature monitor.

I don't miss dragging the bottom on the paved ruts that pretend to be roads in this city. I don't miss the poorly designed side mirrors that create an enormous blind spot. I nearly killed a couple of pedestrians trying to see past that design flaw.

The V is a nice little econobox that suits my city driving just fine, and the lovely beige seats really do a good job of hiding the beige doggie hair.

My last car was a 2003 Hyundai Elantra. The Elantra was dependable and I never had any problems whatsoever with it.

It was just time for an upgrade.

My last car which I still have, just need to replace my clutch, is a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick JX 5 spd 4x4. Boy I love it! So much fun to drive, it was really reliable even though it only got about 20mpg, but it was expected since we had over 265,000 miles on it with no major engine work done to it thus far, although once time and money permits, I plan to overhaul it, possibly throw in a V6 or V8 turbocharged engine in it. I miss it, I had so many plans for that thing, now most of the plans are being transfered to the Versa! lolz. But there is also the 01 all black Mustang GT which persay isn't mine technically, but will be soon! lol, man I do miss driving her around, but the way I drive, I would waste a gallon of gas just going from my driveway to the stoplight a block away!

Last 4 years, Not going back any further, but you get the point.

91 Si Civic hatch, Swapped and turboed95 Del Sol alot of NA mods300zx NA alot of mods, ran 13s 1/4 mile02 Camaro, Ran 11.1 at 122 C5 Corvette 527whp 544wtorque, still had 100hp shot of nitrous to go06 GoMango Daytona Charger05 Raven R1 motorcycle, 180hp stock. 82 350 Camaro92 Honda Accord, Daily driver while I owned most of those cars.

Now I have the Versa as my Daily driver to work (42 miles one way) and im currently saving to pick up another C5 Corvette this winter when its a buyers market. Instead of a Automatic C5 built strickly for drag, like the last one. I want this one to do about the same power, but still have all the creature comforts, but it will be a 6 speed for more of a fun driving car.

2007 Toyota Camry LE 4CYL (7600 Miles-OUCH)

Messed up and bought it with out all the goodies and got tired of the constant downshifting, even on slight grades on overpasses.

Absolutely love the new Versa, just hope the relibility is as good as the Toyotas.

I used to drive a 1996 Nissan 240sx. Black, 5spd, with some aftermarket goodies. Sadly, it was stolen from the front of my house. Probably some drifting douchebag took it. I used the money I got from my insurance company to buy the Versa. I got the Versa because I just got a new job that requires a daily commute of 40 miles in SoCal traffic. That kind of traffic sucks in a stick. I love the Versa for its comfort, cool tech stuff, and mpg. However, I miss being able to fly around turns, do burnout, and other fun things that the Versa just isn't going to be able to replicate. It's a great commuter car though.

I dunno, remember.. a couple of us have autocrossed our Versas. It was pretty fun. Not fast and gluey like a 240, but it's no Taurus either.

I currently drive a black 1998 Pathfinder Chilkoot with over 220,000 kms. I love my Pathfinder but it's becoming a big rust bucket and just started leaking in heavy rainstorms around the top of the windshield. I am waiting for my new Versa to be delivered to the dealership so I can go pick it up. I'm going to miss my 4 wheel in the winter, and living in Canada our winters can be brutal. Definitely won't miss filling up that gas guzzler though.
