Some people are refusing to be completely honest about how much training / experience / qualifications they have when filling out applications, especially if they are applying for a position beneath what they are used to. It eliminates the "over-qualified factor" and a lot of those references aren't closely checked either.

I've done this plenty of times to get those jobs to just get by or to make a few bucks.
IE: I've ran and worked in more thana few high dollar restaurants and resorts, have had a couple million dollar budgets, and have managed staff of 5-25 depending on the business. However, when I've needed jobs for some extra part time cash to get out of a bind, I left most of my knowledge at home and applied (and got) various line cook, serving, bartending, land scaping, masonry laborer, and hot dog sales kiosk positions.
For some reason- the only job I could never managed to get hired for when I applied and interviewed 2-3x was fast food.

Well, companies like BestBuy and such don't want to hire people who have any form of initiative and self worth. They know a "down on their luck" intelligent person is not going to hang around for years at minimum pay.

Maybe.....

My problem?

I'm a magnet for women with self-esteem issues, so I become the "dad" of a dysfunctional "kid"

I think I invite it because I love 'crazy.'

Well it looks as I might have a job at The Home Depot. I thought it was funny during the interview the guy was like are familiar with power tools and/or machinery and are you capable of doing maintenance on small engines. I kind of thought "hmm, where do I begin". The only problem is the position is part time and I really wants about 3,000 hours a week, oh well at least I can still keep looking and hopefully get another job to fill in the gaps. At this point I'm willing to work around the clock if I have to. When I was working with cranes there were several times I worked 25 or 36 hours straight on emergency jobs. It sucked but the paycheck was nice.

My TV is a rotting, fetid, corpsified, monstrous, aberrant, disgusting piece of horrid s***. No universal remote in the world is compatible with it, the stock remote has to be within a foot of the IR receiver, the onscreen menu items are ugly, and the effing volume and channel popup graphics are huge and stay on the screen for 30 seconds after you stop needing to see them, happily blocking whatever it is you're trying to watch. Oh, and it takes forever to turn on AND off.

Don't buy Dynex. Bad things. For $10 more I could have had a better brand, but I wanted to save some money. Bad things.

I've been wondering about what's up with TVs now anyways. I remember in the mid 90s my mom had a POS RCA tv that had more features than my $1200 (originally $1700) Samsung 52'' 1080p LCD TV, I don't have PiP which I would never use but hell it costs as much as a car it should have it. Also the remote has to be pointed directly at the TV in order to work where as the aforementioned POS RCA could be in another room and you could be pointing the remote in the opposite direction and it would still work perfectly. That's my only real beef with my TV, except for the fact that as soon as I bought it all the TVs in that range went on sale since everything now has internet built in. If I had waited a few months I could've had the same TV for half the price.

Sucks because if I wanted to sell it now I could probably get $300 for it maybe, even though it's only a year old and I have the damn $300 stand for it.

New(er) problem. Went for a group interview tonight at Petland, I have never done one of these before. Being Petland my competition was about 14 high school age girls and one dude who had been working for Petland for the past 8 years in management at several different stores. I'm not gonna lie, I hate Petland, I hate the conditions they keep the dogs in, I hate that they use puppy mills and I hate that they think they can charge $1000 for a poorly bred dog. But, I got a baby due any day and need a job bad. The problem is this wasn't a normal interview, it quickly turned into a match of who can act the dumbest and/or who is willing to degrade themselves the most.

There were people singing, dancing, barking like dogs while crawling around on the floor, all kinds of random crap to prove to the manager that they would do anything for minimum wage. I was fully prepared to provide references of all sorts and state how my previous job of three years I never missed a single day, I was however not prepared to sing twinkle twinkle little star.

Once again, FML

You mean the manager doing the interviews were having people do that kinda crap?

You should have taped it and put it on a website with adsense. Then, linked it to every forum and sat back earning moniez.

FML, indeed

My problem is i'm tired of my car making stupid unexplained noises that I can't find. It makes me want to hit it with a sledgehammer.

I'm also tired of family drama and having to travel all over the East Coast to keep them all happy :squint:

We have a 32" Dynex LED TV in our bedroom and it's been solid so far. I bought it 6 months ago for $260 on clearance at Best Buy and it gets the job done. Now, we only use it to watch stuff on the Google TV and occasionally we flip over to satellite. If it were for our living room, I would avoid one at all costs.

I have a 32" Dynex CCFL LCD in my living room. Works great, looks pretty darn good, and it nicely fills in a space above a small bookshelf. Was $320 in 2010 with a 2-year warranty. The built-in speakers suck but I'll compromise on that for the price.

I don't use my living room enough to justify an expensive TV. I might even sell my xbox because I use it so infrequently now.

Yes, the manager, well three managers actually were having people do this stuff to see who was the most outgoing and who was willing to do the dumbest s***. At one point they were trying to get two guys to slow dance as another person sang until the two guys involved were like "ehhh not so much man".

I'm trying to play the game but I don't see what this has to do with cleaning up dog s*** and scooping fish into a bag so that the uninformed owner can let them hang around in their car in the Florida heat for four hours only to die before they ever reach the miserably small tank they were going to live a short malnourished existence in.

I don't think the pet store competition is so hot that it justifies stuff like this. I don't even see car salesmen going to that length.

Time off is just intermission to the next work (or training) phase. It's nice when you have it but the older you get the shorter and less relaxing they are.

Keep up the work, you will be proud of the outcome :dblthumb:

I'm sure upper management/owners would not understand what they are doing either. Again, you should have taped it and made some bux for being there. Never forget again!
