Good call. I had the Saturn Ion in mind but the Malibu is an even better example of the auto equivalent of cold oatmeal.

Solid example. Forgotten and left to the past. Loved by almost no one.

Any GM, Ford, Dodge product from the 80's to early 90's that isn't a Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, Viper, or continuing truck. They all seemed to be cookie cutter crap.

LTD yes, but no the the Celebrity and Summit Wagon. Both have followings and the Summit wagon is BAD a**.

I think the Mailbu and Corsica are still at the top as well.

But how about this:

Neons are regularly raced, there were a couple of performance variants (SRT4 and ACR), and they've got a big cult community. Totally ineligible.

I also strike down the Renault, as a French car in America is uncommon enough (even at the time) so as to make it at least borderline "interesting"

I agree. They're just not built particularly well.

I also agree. Nicely designed car, badly built, but Renault also made a turbo version of the car car which had real ballz.

Since my vote for the Neon was kicked out, here are 2 prime examples of less than interesting...

Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz
Image

Ford Escort
Image

With the exception to the Escort Cossworth (which we can't get here) the rest of the escort/tracer/contour lineup is less than inspiring, especially when powered by its ball less SOHC 1.9L engine (whopping 94hp from the factory). But the escort is horrible looking, and they aren't unreliable, but they are horrible to work on.

Gotta disagree with you on that one. The Tempo is OBNOXIOUSLY reliable. Mine would always run with a stack of problems. I knew peopel that never changed the oil in them, just added as it burned off etc. It's really hard to kill a tempo.

The 90s Escorts were dependable and with a manual GT, really good fun to drive. They werent quick, but they were tossable. GTs also had 1.8L Miata engines.

As far as looks, it looked distinctly Japanese -- minimalistic and petite.
