i could. i have to space it out because i am trying not to have a negative mindset towards those in authority over me. i have a tendancy towards authority problem but am working hard against it. the good Lord knew where to put me to work out that condition;)

Chris there is a saying at my dealer one of my techs said one time and it has always stuck in my head. It is a very accurate description of how most of us feel on our jobs. It goes like this" I do not have an attitude problem, I have adapted to my enviroment"

Some how I bet you can relate!

When you guys mention your pay also mention how your payed ie,flat rate or hourly. I am flat rate out here so what I get payed an hour can very I can stand around with my thump up my a$$ and make 24 an hour or I can bust my a$$ and make 30+ an hour. I average about 28 to 29 on a typical non warrenty explosion pay period.

ok$15/hour-flat rate(known by some as flat-rape)avg about 45-50 hours turned a week(assuming we have any work)30 hour guaranteebest week 82 hoursmon-fri 7:30-5:30 with one hour lunchtwo sat off, one oni am the B man on my team(if you look at the team leader as A man)when he goes to nascar i get to be him and get his pay(sort of)i have almost made it to team leader on another team a few times but my own foul attitude(or adaptation to my environment) got in the way.by that i mean i used to refuse to work for free. when i would refuse work that they would not pay for, they sent me home for the day. if they cant convince you, they are not above starving your family. after taxes(a lot) i end up with like $400-$500 avg, about $350 guarantee, and maybe in the $7xx range if i am lucky. that will pay the bills, but i have a first child on the way(son) and im just trusting God that everything will work out.

for the last 3 weeks i have sat on my guarantee and watched tv. it has not been this slow in a long time. still we have an ad in the newspaper for techs and a new guy starting next week. we are almost to one tech per bay. that will be interesting as a waiter state inspection will have a long wait if my bay is full.

Chris how attached are ya to virginia?? We dont have guarantee here. But we never do under 100% [40 a week] our average lately has been around 121% meaning we work 40 and get payed 121% of that. I suspect your team system is a bit different then ours. We are not individual flat rate we are team flat rate, meaning what the guy doing next to you effects your pay. It really works for the guys having to always do warrenty diag. since it dont pay sh**. I am the crew leader/shop foreman[depends on what they reffer to me as that day..lol] at my dealer and I think the guys find I treat them fairly but I will refuse to do free work unless its like wiper blades or poping in an airfilter or something. We are almost never asked to do free work on things that are complicated like involved diagnostics or tear down work. The dealer pretty much works it out with us unless someone on the crew pulled a major boner on a job.

i do free work all the time, weld up the doors on the owner old camaro, put license plate brackets on the dx cars, wiper blades(they add up!), 99 point inspections, mop my bay, "come check this car real quick" then the cust leaves and i never even see a ticket on it, (my favorite) check out a car and the service writer feels sorry for them and lets them go for free(car still broke). sucks.

Chris is pretty much at my level too. I know he has the same nissan cert I do and I can see his knowlege is right there its not just paper in his hand or patches on his shoulder. Thats what you need to strive for.

I have said this before , You can go to all the schooling you want ,get all the certs you possibly can,all the degrees to go alone with them, but real world, If you cant apply that knowlege or put it to use at your finger tips it dont mean shi*. If you do get to school and learn something play with it. go to a perfectly good running car and mess it up so you know the difference between good and bad. A lot of techs dont take the time to see how a godd runing car works therefore they dont know whats failing when they try to diagnose it cause they dont recognize theres a problem.

Oh by the way chris do a dial update monday. you guys in the north east are bout to get hit and get hit hard. 2 BIG recalls and they are aimed at the northeast first. 1 involves the sending unit on the frontier and xterra 590k+ vehicles affected. the other is for the 04 quest (suprise suprise) for 9 upgrades depending on vin number some will only get 1 repair and others could get all 9. :(

yeah, we got the frontier/xterra one. reminds me of when we did all those frontier/xterra fuel tank shutter valves. i actually made a deal with another guy in the shop that i would do all the sentra heater case foam repairs if he would do all the frontier shutter valves. i havnt heard about the quest yet. is this to include the pass front seat recall about the airbag deployment. we had a bunch that failed the test.

Yeah it sucks we need to go into the tanks again. The xterra's are gravy the frontiers utterly suck.

Yeah the occupant seat bag is one of the 9 upgrades. We had a guy come out about 2 months ago from nissan who did like 6 or 7 units we had from our 2 stores. All he did was calibrate them.

Its not labeled as a recall on the quest its listed as a quality upgrade TSB. It covers everything from the shifter knob poping off to rattles from the rear quarters to the sliding door opening repair,I cant remember all of them but the biggest repair pays 1.6hrs and that is for repairing squeeks and rattles in the rear quarter area. I thought it was strange that both of those campaigns are geared to start heavily in the northeast region of the us. I can see the corrosion campaign on the D22,WD22 but the quest seemed strange they localized it like that.

Isn't the reason the Quest recalls are aimed at the NorthEast is due to the cold weather like the door Accuators, and the Altima fuel pump screen?

yeah, a guy came to our store too. i took the cars apart, he calibrated, and i put them back together. took 20 min but payed(warranty) .5 it think. we had a few that failed the calibration. they are sending out whole seats to have them recalibrated and sent back.

I work at a Nissan dealer in Fl aka Death's Waiting Room so everything that comes in has to be treated like that or the elder people go crazy. Had a fellow tech but a 18' tire on a new Maxima today you can imagine what the cust said all because of a accident

Fortunitly the truck belongs to NNA so it wouldnt be a big issue but if it were a customers I would have to cover it heavly with fender covers..lol

We had our first recall on the D22 come in yesterday, the tech I had do it said it was very easy, didnt even have to drop the tank. now in your case I dont know if you'll get off so easy since your area is more suseptable to corrosion. You would have to drop the tank if it was corroded. The tool nissan sent to release the connectors really works well from what I was told.

thread revivalupdate, I just got a job. I got hired at my interview as a lube tech at a dealership called Hendrick Honda in Woodbridge, VA. I got lucky. I didnt have any auto exp going in but the service director hired me because of my ambition and my goals. Today was my first day and i was already doin PDI, recalls, and other entry level stuff. Im lovin it already (at least for the moment).

if ur place is busy, go to service man. there's so much potential there. there's a guy at my dealership who make more than the service advisors, directors, and managers. he easily takes home more than $100k. its def more physical tho. i dunno man follow your passion.
