yea man, go for the CA. everyone allways say " o yea go for the ka. parts are hard to find. blah blah blah this." The Ca is known as the mini Rb. those little motors are bad as and can handle alot of power. alot of people say rebuild the ka do this do that but thats not cheap at all, it might run you like 2-2500 including parts and labor, thats not even including turbo stuff. A ca is allready turbo just bolt it in and splice a few wires and there you go. Im not trying to start anything or a war on motors, i just hate when people just say or do one thing just because everyone else is saying it. be real look at how many people said do ka, now see how many of those people actually built or actually ownes a ka-t.

BY the way you can get a KA with motor, transmission, ecu, and everything for mayb 600.00 and the way the economy is right now ive been seeing full Ca swap including everything for 800.00... What ever you do just dont regret it.

I'm really surprised this thread hasn't been locked yet. Between these two, there is no "better" engine. It just depends on your preferences towards each motors strengths & weakness.

Me? I like the little extras displacement you'll enjoy from a KA-T. But the weight that the CA will shave from your engine bay is tempting too...

But I'd put my money on rebuilding the KA you already have to stock specs instead of buying a questionable used one. A stock KA can handle 300+hp just fine you turbo it properly.

I do like the CA better.....however, previously mentioned issues are valid. VERY limited availability on pretty much anything after market. Good cheap motors though. Heck I've even got a CA trunk latch for a coupe.

I've never been partial to the KA......

Good luck with your decision!

honestly, this isnt a motor vs. motor thread, really. It's a "which one should I buy given the circumstances?" thread. and honestly, KAs are cheap and come stock in the USDM 240. plain and simple. they're cheap and easy to find parts for or to replace, can make good numbers when mildly turbo'd on even stock internals. dont get me wrong, making power requires money any way you cut it, but its going to be so much easier on you to go KA. Forget that $1k "JDM" KA, thats . You can find one worthy of a rebuild for CHEAP. Heck I just bought a complete running single slammer for $100, i **** you not. Know what i have to do to it? Put it in my car!!!!! Guy I bought it off of was swapping an RB20 of questionable quality. Didnt even know if it would run...

find out what's wrong with your motor first. do a compression test, then go from there.

It's a pain to find CA parts as compared to the other engines that go into 240's.

Not to mention finding someone who wants to sell a complete engine harness along with ECU?

UGH. No thanks!

ka for 1k is pretty high.

You could pay a shop money and have your ka rebuilt.

0 miles on your motor > 40k unknown condition KA.

Keep your engine and rebuild it.

Dude, don't call him out.

He's right.

Nissan also put it into forklifts as well as the awd R`Nessa and the Presage.

Do you think Nissan really made an engine JUST for America?

The ca is a good engine with surprising power. The Ka24de is also a great platform and its aftermarket support has been on the rise lately. 300hp is very do-able on a ka24de. You will need forged pistons, a turbo (with all the other stuff, intercooler, catch can, oil lines, etc) , larger injectors, and either a retune or full stand alone system and a cometic head gasket. I you do your research and are diy oriented and willing to learn, this can be accomplished for under 3k. You will have built a reliable, tuneable, and well powered machine. Plus, you will learn alot, especially if you go with an affordable stand alone system like megasquirt. My 2 cents

I dont have problems finding parts for my CA. Just open your eyes. Research though. I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, trust me I've been lurking hard for a while.

I would just roll KA. I don't see the advantage of the JDM motors and all the BS that can go with owning them when the KA is dirt cheap, well supported, uh legal to be in the car; hello, and proven to make power. And that is coming from someone who owns and loves his CA18.

dude... I took my first drive in a ka-t (t28@7psi) not too long ago... and man, I'm sold. And to tell you the truth, I actually liked a ka-t (t28@7psi) better than any sr (t28@7psi).

CA's are bleh to me.

more displacement, bigger stoke, got to pull harder on the bottom which is where most street cars live.I enjoy watching SR guys talk bad about the CA saying it's small and then turn around and try to use a different argument when speaking to the KA. Selective emphasis, nice.

Ugh, I'm so sick of Sr > ka/ visa vera.

It's so annoying.

Not to mention it has NOTHING to do with what the OP asked about.

the CA is a 195 hp motor from hell... that thing can take more abuse than any other nissan motor.. i do not lie about that.. http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com

they got CA's for 800 bucks with 25k miles on them, and an extra 300 and you can get the ecu and wireing harness from them too.. ive seen their motors run before, they are simply amazing..
