i think that this thread is a little pointless, cuz its really just a matter of opinion.. i own a KA and i love it, but when it comes down to it, all it is a truck motor slapped in nissan's "affordable sports car"

KA's require a bit of money to make them a "race engine"

CA's are already meant to get beat on, and can rev higher than hell for a 4 banger, but parts for them are hard to come by and are expensive..

the best thing for you to do is do a little research and figure out for yourself what motor you would rather want, cuz like i said, its all a matter of opinion

yeah a friend of mine got a jdm ka24de for his coupe and it was apparantley out of a frontier..so the KA was not only for the US...the 240's just got that good ole truck motor is all

I don't know a whole lot about CA but I heard that they are just a waste of money because they are old and don't have a whole lotta parts available to have much potential for a high HP engine. Especially since the SR is readily available in JP with sooooo much aftermarket support...gawd you can get anything for that engine.

OP, I wouldn't do anything until you know EXACTLY what is wrong with your KA then go from there. But if you do end up rebuilding the KA, the stock rods are good up to 350HP and since your goal is only 300hp, you could slap some forged low compression pistons in there for now and then start saving up for a nice little turbo kit for the KA. That's my .02.

An SR would be a good choice as well, but a complete turn-key swap wouldn't be 1000

I know that the KA came in other cars and that is wasn't just manufactured for North Amercia, but tell me something..... which if any of the other KA's will fit/bolt into a 240sx without serious modification seeing as how most of them are FWD configuration.

the light trucks with the KA would most likely drop right in a 240 I'm guessing. But the FWD KA is a totally different block IIRC

Be nice to people or get your feelings hurt.

And if you knew what you were talking about you would know BOTH the vehicles I already listed are either RWD or 4WD. Stop trying to be Mr. know it all, it's not working.

I'm not going to spoon feed you because you demand it, seek knowledge.

You had it right on rebuilding the engine.

But then you dropped the ball on the rb20 comment.

Until then.

Best of luck.

Sorry for being mean, all I asked for was pics. I'm not trying to be Mr. Know it all, and I certainly don't need to be spoon fed. I have googled all those cars but I was unable to find any RWD/AWD engine pics. I did find a few FWD ones.

Here is an engine I found on Ebay for a Largo but it's a FWD set-up.

Sorry for asking questions.

I have looked a little into the rb20 swap and there are a few problems like the intake mani design, and the ceramic blade turbo which tends to crack with higher hp. On the up side, I believe it will bolt right in to the 240's crosss-member and connect to the driveshaft with no problems. There are quite a few members on here with rb20 240's they will be your best bet on info and whatnot

I'm gonna tell you right now, goin ka-t is a good right as the ka is a good engine, but it can get expensive really quick and depending on whether you do all the work yourself will also be a determine how much money you are gonna spend. But it can be done for around 1500-2K if you find cheap parts like mafs, safc, injectors, turbo, and custom intercooler and exhaust piping.

Go read the "everyone stop buying CAs" thread in the CA18 forum. I don't think its the right engine for you. You have to have lots of money, time, and a strong desire to be a CA18 owner. They are just old engines, and require a lot of work. You would have to completely rebuild it as soon as you got it, so you would be looking at the price of the engine on top of a 100% mandatory full rebuild.

Stick with the KA. I am a CA owner.

^^^ Hell, I'd say the same for SR's & RB20's too. All the low mileage motors are gone. We are now in the hayday of the KA imo.

yeah that's the gamble with getting 15+ year old jdm engines...kinda scary IMHO

that list sounds about right, I spent about 3K on my setup but I payed too much for some things when I was a noob =/

I've only been boosted for about 2 years and I had to do some custom piping but the aftermarket support has really taken off for the KA in the recent years so going KA-T now is easier

There are some RWD ka24 E's and DE's in japan. Though they came in cargo van's and work trucks.

One being the Nissan E24 Caravan.
http://cars-pickup-truck.blogspot.com/2007/12/nissan-caravan.html wrote:The Nissan Caravan is a van designed by Nissan for use as a fleet vehicle or cargo van. Outside Japan the car was sold as either Nissan Urvan or Homy. Several configurations of this van are available, including the GX (flat roof) and DX (taller roof) models, and several models with multiple engine configurations including the KA24DE, the KA20DE, a 2.7 liter TD27 diesel, and a 3 liter diesel, the ZD30DD, as well as the zd30DDTi. The E25 chassis is also used in connection with the Isuzu Como with same engines offered by Nissan.

From 1986 until 1987, a KD-ARE24 chassis was used. The 1988 to 1997 models used the E24 chassis, models from 1998 onward use the TA-QGE25 chassis and VWE25 chassis. Currently, the caravan outsells the Toyota Hiace since 2004. One main reason is due it having more power and cargo room.

Would a troll waste the time to do this?

haha.
