The vinyl comes with adhesive on the back. You kinda have to tug at it to remove it, but it doesn't leave residue behind.IlyaKol wrote:So it's NOT like those tacky EBay kits? lol.
Is it sticky? Or did you wrap it and tape it in the back or something?
I will post some close ups as soon as I get home.sunoco wrote:Hey White wolf - can you post a few pics of your grill. I dont think Ive seen anyone black out the whole thing yet. Usually the top and bottom are still chrome. Anyway, can you post some pics of it?

You's a dedicated mofo White Wolf... and I'm loving the piano black overlay for the trim but I got 4 ?s 1. Does it look as clean in person as it does on the picture? Be honest please cuz I really want to do this (I've posted about this before) as I'm probably going to have another set of trim soon that I'm going to be able to play with... 2. Is your overlay over wood or aluminum trim? I'm asking because the aluminum trim isnt smooth like the wood... 3. If you decide to take it off, is it going to spoil the trim for good with glue residue? Or you cant tell? 4. If you had to do it again would you do it with the overlay or paint them?? Thanks ahead of time.white_wolf wrote:Here's what I did:
- removed grille from front bumper (followed the FSM)
- sanded the grille with 400grit sand paper
- wiped down the grille with isopropyl alcohol
- sprayed on primer; and let dry for about 30min (15min in the sun, 15min in the shade)
- sanded the primer'd grille with 1000grit sandpaper
- wiped down the grille with ispropyl alcohol
- sprayed first coat of gloss black; let dry for about 30min (15min in the sun, 15min in the shade)
- sprayed 2nd coat of gloss black; let dry for about 1hr (30min in the sun, 30min in the shade)
- sprayed first coat of clear; let dry for about 30min (15min in the sun, 15min in the shade)
- sprayed 2nd coat of clear
- let the grille dry for about 2 hours (1hr in the sun, 1hr in the shade)
*same steps and process for the chrome hood lip piece*
I used Duplicolor clear coat, and for the chrome piece I ordered my body color (K32) at automotivetouchup.commexillis wrote:what kind of clear coat did you use and what about the chrome piece, what color did you get?
1) Yes, my trim looks as clean as it does in the picture. It took a lot of patience and a steady hand. I'm lucky; I work as a nurse in the operating room... so I used a scalpel from work to trim off excess vinyl. For best results, you'll have to take the trim out of the dash and doors.a.blanco0905 wrote: You's a dedicated mofo White Wolf... and I'm loving the piano black overlay for the trim but I got 4 ?s 1. Dang, u serious? Sorry to hear that... That's why I tell people to get forged wheels... I know they're more expensive but they wont easily bend. The Bodyguard wrote:...but I saw a couple bends on the wheels.....might get a new set of wheels sooooon!!!
It's the construction in this city....never ending story! My next move is the stock 20" just dont know if I will get silver, gunmetal or chrome! I guess it depends on what I find. I think with my color car any one will look good, especially stock wheels!!...new are too high! Since I have the eibach drop it should look clean and still have good clearance....a.blanco0905 wrote:Dang, u serious? Sorry to hear that... That's why I tell people to get forged wheels... I am considering that as well...(repairing them) I can use the money for my new baby boy expenses or go ahead and do my rear end mods..(exhaust, roof spoiler). Thanks for the advice,.makes more sense when more great minds think alike!!mexillis wrote:if you have bends but it doesnt shake when you drive, why spend money on new rims? Also you can get the wheels straightend for about 100 bucks each at a wheel repair shop.
