Thinking about buying one today. I dont know why it requires thought -- I assume theyre no more than 50 bucks.

Also, this happened to me on the internet just now:

Like all kind of meats can be cooked in them, ham chicken roast, whatever. it always tastes really good too, can just do some rice or something quick with it after it's been cooking all day or put veggies and things in with the meat.

I like them and think they are worth getting one

LOL at youtube

The wife makes some pretty awesome recipes in the crock pot. I never usually mess with it unless she specifically leaves a recipe out that involves it, but I've made some amazing chili in it.

You usually can pick them up for $30-40, they're well worth the money. A good deep fryer is a great investment too, not so healthy, but you can make some awesome stuff in it.

Damn near anything, including deserts.

The Crock-Pot website has some amazing recipes http://www.crock-pot.com/Recipes.aspx and there are several cookbooks out there devoted just to crockpot recipes.

I set my new Rival slow cooker to low. I'll report back at 3am. The cooker was $17something at Wal-Mart. So cheap it boggles the mind.

I honestly expected to spend $50. Didn't realize appliances had gotten so cheap. I must be stuck in the 90s:

For future reference, try switching out one of the cans of beef broth with a can of coke.

The acids help break down the fat in the meat, and the sugar will slowly carmelize on everything.

Some times with pot roast I just do 1 can of coke, a box of dry onion soup mix, and a bunch of chopped green onions. Makes the roast fall apart, its awesome. Plus if you do it the night before, then eat the next day, so good. Best thing ever, is do the above, then drain the roast early afternoon, and add all the stuff to make a nice spicy chili and let it simmer a while. Its epic.

3 hours to go. Too late to add coca cola?

Friends asked me to come out and drink, and I'm at home cooking beef. I've become an old married person without the married.

^This. I have a recipe somewhere for Cola chicken, it is AMAZING. Im a fan of doing out of the ordinary stuff in the crock, not so much the stew style recipes. You can really do some great things in them.

Did your crock pot come with a smaller one as well? We have one they call the little dipper. I take 2/3 velveeta pepperjack cheese and 1/3 salsa, cube the cheese small and let it heat up. the dip turns out awesome for very little effort and 1000x better than the canned queso cheese.

I saw the one with the mini-pot but the box didnt really explain what it was for. I thought, "is this Xzibit's idea of a joke?"

Haha :) I have yet to perfect buffalo chicken dip in the crockpot. Last time it looked as nothing more than chicken floating in cheezy grease, I blame it on the cheap generic shredded cheese I used.

You can actually cook a whole chicken in the crock pot too. Get creative with your spices and let it soak all day in there.

Also, I once did corned beef and cabbage in it too. That's good eats for when it gets really cold out...

   I haven't had that in years. I need to make some of that soon...

I used to crunch some regular Lay's potato chips up on it, before eating it. That makes it even more awesome ;)

"St. Louis, MO man found unconsious"

A barking dog alerted neighbors when his owner apparently fell unconsious after a crock-pot dinner at 3 am. Mr. Jesda Gulati, of 13354 Stuyvessant Parkway, had, according to paramedics, consumed two pounds of pot roast, a pound of carrots and an entire box of instant mashed potatoes before succumbing to a food coma. He was found alive but unresponsive by medical staff.

Mr. Gulati is considered somewhat of a shut-in by his neighbors and repeatedly ignores pleas from friends to socialize in favor of sitting at home eating crock-pot meals and blogging on his Apple iPad. Police questioned Newton, Mr. Gulati's room mate, but were unable to discern any additional information. Gulati was admitted to West County General Hospital and was immediately given Maalox via intravenous delivery and is now resting comfortably.

Yesterday for lunch we had sauerkraut and sausage cooked in the crock and for supper we had bbq featherbones also from the crock. Soups, stews, roasts, casseroles, desserts. The only things I personally haven't tried to cook on a crock pot is burgers and steaks... The small crock pots work great for cocktail wienies, swedish (or bbq) meatballs or, as said already, dips.

I've picked up a few small crock pots at estate sales and auctions and even used them with potpurri, candles (after the kids broke that jar) or warming oils.

I thought Jesda had cornered the market on win.

I was mistaken.

Nicely done, Chad. :rotfl :dblthumb:

BTW, I'd never heard of the Coke thing...but searing the meat before it goes in the crock is solid advice.

Crock pots are awesome, you can start them when you leave for work and dinner is ready when you get back. Another great thing I'd a pressure cooker, stuff that takes hours done in like 20 mins
