Wait 8 weeks, still NO Versa

I ordered my versa SL+CVT+High Tech+ Magnetic Grey on Sep 27.Iit has been 8 week and all I have is a VIN number that I got a week ago from the dealer.

The salesman showed me the report that they have (suppose to be updated every Monday and Wednesday) and he told me that once the status on the report is "rail", then the car will be in Nissan compound within 2 week, once the status is "COMP", then they can have the car within 2 days.

Since my status is still just a VIN number, I guess I have to wait at least another 3 weeks and it sucks. Anybody in Toronto or Ontario has similar experience? Is this car really that hot?

Something seems to be very wrong with this situation. Here is Edmonton two of three dealers claim that most cars are being delivered to eastern Canada. That would include you? But after 8 weeks, someone is making a few bucks on the interest we paid for our deposits. It probably doesn't go to Nissan, but that is not the point. I was pressured to make the deal so that I could "be the very next in line" rather than sitting on the side lines waiting for the situation to improve. Definitely something fishy going on. If this were a stock purchase on the NASDAQ, the recommendation would be HOLD!! rather than buy!!!

I had to wait 7 weeks in Toronto, for a VIN # and then had it a couple of days later. My car came from a Whitby Nissan Dealership and they sent to to the one I bought it from.

Originally I wanted Black but was told there was a problem from Nissan in the production line with black SLs??? In the end I got my silver SL 7 weeks later.

Car: Nissan Versa 1.8SL Blueberry w CVT,Technology Package

Post

Ah I am so scared. I am new here- well I have been lurking pretty much since I ordered my versa. I am just north of Toronto- ordered my versa the last week of October. My guy at the dealership kept saying that he had no idea how I could be so patient- and to be honest at this point I really want the car. Its interesting though because I could have got the Black SL with the Technology package within November since they had ordered it already. I really wanted the Blueberry with charcoal interior so I decided to wait because they said they had one on order in November, meaning it would arrive sometime in December apparently. Now I don't even have a VIN but after talking to the dealer today they are fairly sure they will get it in in December. So anyways I am really beginning to wonder if it really will be december....I am scared- I need this car for an internship I am starting in January. Anybody else in Ontario have experience in this situation?

The actual truth is that there are no Versa's. The Versa doesn't exist. It's an urban legend.

Really, I feel for you guys. Have you tried going the route of checking the inventory of all the dealers in the area online? I was origially told that the Black SL with Tech package I had placed my deposit on was impossible to get before December. I went online and found one at a dealer about 20 miles away and now it sits in my driveway. Maybe I was just lucky and my timing was good. But the same dealer had a Blueberry one that I had considered before realizing that Black is the best looking one out there. Good luck.

In all seriousness though, if you have a VIN, then the car is built, it's just a matter of how long it takes to get to you, which includes how long it takes for them to fill the train car(s) with vehicles to send north, how long it takes to get the rail depot, the time to process at the rail holding yard, the time it takes to truck the car from the rail yard, and the time it takes your dealer to PDI the car.

Best estimates I've heard for this process is 2-4 weeks.

BUT YOUR CAR EXISTS. That's the good news.

For those that don't have VINs... your car doesn't exist. Is it a case of doesn't exist yet, or won't exist? That's a good question. Your best bet is to scour all dealerships within a radius of your home that you're comfortable going to. My closest dealer is 2 miles from my house. 2nd closest is 13. I bought from the 3rd closest, 23 miles away, because they had the exact car I wanted on the lot.

And for those who have Versas in your grubby hands... I hate you all. Mine won't be back from the body shop before December 1st. Apparently there was some damage to both quarter panels, so they have to be cut off, new ones welded on, and all the appropriate bodywork done to make the repair look invisible. 13 business day estimate as of yesterday. (and for those of you who have forgotten, it was hit and taken out of service on October 5th. So that's almost 2 months.)

Oh yes, and the brainiac in the F150 would have been able to see Black better, because it's such a vibrant color

Maybe they SHOULD make Orange versas...

Or they could just make the rear tail light LEDs and make them blink when coming to a stop like what you see on buses. That would get someone's attention for sure.

Naw.....just get black. Then they're so busy admiring how awesome your car looks that they can't miss it. Nobody says Geez that's a great looking car, then runs into it.

Hey EV. How long til you get yours back?

It's happened. Ever heard of, "Wherever you look, that's the direction you'll drift." Well my friend found that out the hard way when he side swiped a nice mustang parked on the side of the street. He was mystified by the color changing paint job.

Wow, that's crazy. That seems more like a dealership issue than a Nissan issue, but I understand your frustration. What's the configuration you want?

I agree, this is definitely a dealer issue. It sounds like the dealer didn't submit the order until recently and Nissan rejected it. If the dealer submitted the order back in Aug, it probably still would've been rejected, but at least you wouldn't be waiting all those months. I would blame Nissan for a lot of thing (low production levels, configurations not available) but I wouldn't blame them on this issue. Being a dealer is as easy as starting a dough nut shop. Anyone can do it as long as they have the money. So there are the ones out there that are uneducated along with the educated. The cons and the people who actually want to see you get a good deal. If you feel that your dealer isn't being honest or has done you wrong, by all means leave and work with someone you can trust.

Well I ordered my Black SL with CVT on September 15th, waited a week to see if the dealer could find one locally at another dealer no luck. Put the order in a week later, so I was in line. Got a vin number late October. They called Monday to say it will be in the Concord yard this week. Called today its on its way to the dealer Friday. In for PDI and window tinting, should be ready by Monday or Tuesday next week.If I wanted another colour, could have had it sooner. I ended up checking all the dealers my self through this entire exercise and found cars, but the dealers are unwilling to trade them off.I would go to the Nissan.ca website, build my car, them when it says locate your car and asks for a dealer name, I would put in the letter "a" and it would give me every dealer across Canada on 38 pages.Good Luck to the rest of you waiting, I know its long. I will find out Tuesday if it was worth the wait.

Sounds like a production issue. The sunroof package (Sport Package in my area) is listed in the V brochure as 'Late Availability'. My guess is you they didn't get the word out early enough to all the dealers that the Sport Package wasn't available immediately, so you ordered something that didn't exist!

My sis is looking for a new compact, and I'm trying to sell her on the car (she likes the Suzuki SX4). I'll have to point out this delivery backlog, is there anything else she should know about?

This package SHOULD be available, but it's VERY rare at the moment. There are what, one or two Versa owners in the US on this forum that have the sunroof/audio/convenience package combo?

(Once again, Nissan, stop producing S autos... noone wants them.)

That's the first I've heard of that. Wouldn't that be heading down the road of false advertisement. It still available on Nissan's site as a valid configuration. I wouldn't be surprised if they just temporarily suspended production on them, but as the car becomes more popular, more people are just going to want the base with the auto. Money will be the motivating factor.

Well, I have one of the SLs with this combination and CVT (but I think I've seen a few others pop up more recently). At least in the U.S., the Sunroof is NOT part of the Sports Package for the Versa. What listed on-line for the (U.S.) Versa Sports Package is:

S01 Sport Package (Late Availability)Includes rear roof spoiler, lower-body side sill extensions, unique front and rear fascias, chin spoiler and front fog lights. Available January 2007. REQUIRES F01. NOT AVAILABLE with R10, B10.

For the Canidians the sunroof is only available in the Sport package. For the US, it's an option in its own.

I think he's telling Nissan to stop producing them, not saying that Nissan has stopped producing them.

Precisely.

I'm now seeing a lot of S autos on dealer lots not moving, but no other configurations.

I went through the same thing. I ordered my car in August, got my VIN number 5 weeks ago and just picked up the vehicle this morning. From my understanding Nissan intially thought that the S models would be more popular but were wrong, so they are very backlogged trying to bump of production of the SL's. I searched every dealer within a 6 hour drive from me and there were very few SL's available.

Too bad you're not where I live. 9 S autos in stock within 25 miles. Black, white, red, silver, gray... just about everything but blues.

I did inventory check and find Dixie 401 and Alta Richmond hill has the car that I wanted. But I am going to wait for my car from my current dealer since I really don't want to go through all the hassle. But anybody else is interested, can give them a call and maybe you can get one onsite. I know Dixie401 has one when I called Thursday. (Versa SL+CVT+High Tech+ Magnetic Grey).

It will be exact 2 month for me for waiting after next week; will see what is going to happen.

The thing is that at some point when you stop caring, you get a call from a guy that tells you they got exactly what you wanted...like they know when you can stop be interested in their product.

The problem with that is that it (stop caring) only works with small bling blang. With a 16k car you just can't pretend it doesn't bother you. I ve gone through that when dealer said they didn’t have the color I wanted. Settling up with a different color was what I had to compromise to get what I wanted – all the options.

Sorry to hear you've been waiting so long.... I'm optimistic about picking mine up this week since I want the S Auto (with VOP) which seems to be in much lower demand..

Now I just have to face the crazy Toronto auto insurance rates....

It's confirmed... I get to pick up my Versa on Thursday! I'm so excited it's ridiculous.... I think part of the excitement is that it's been over 5 years since I've had a car (live and work in downtown Toronto so there's been no need). And this is definitely the first time I'll have a brand new car!

What kind of Versa are you getting? Could you tell what is your dealer is or the last four digits for your VIN number so I can guess when I will be getting mine. Thanks.
