New on the site. Have an 03 350z. Wrecked on back end. Still runs and drives. Looking at a similar amount of money for repair or swap. The addition of a new family member pushes me to lean away from my two seater sports car. ive got a 93 240sx lined out just down the road. I know ill need engine mounts, drive shaft, and the rest of the solid parts to keep everything in place. Question is about the brains of the swap. What would be required for me to use the engine harness out of my 350Z. If there's a standalone ECU that can get the job done I'd like to hear personal reviews. Something that's been road tested so to speak.

look up mega squirt. honestly your looking at more time and effort then its worth sell everything and put it into something worth while. spending an ungodly amount of money to gain 100hp doesnt seem like a good coice to me. but to each is own. if its your first swap i would stay away you can get in way too deep for nothing. youll need to beat the firewall trim the oil pan and crossmember. the wiring is intense on a vq. theres a reason you dont see a whole hell of alot of people swapping them.

in the end its your car and money but even with a parts car your looking at over 2500 to do it.

Headers (900$)
wiring with stand alone(1000+)
exhaust(200-1200)
mounts(400)
drive shaft(500)
plus radiator, hoses, ps ac, gauges ect

@waxednuggs - the same thing could be said about your LSx / LM7 swap idea though. VQ35 makes 287 hp, the LM7 V8 produces 295, and even the L33 only pumps 310hp. And the V8 will still need most of that other stuff too - rewiring, headers to fit into an S, driveshaft, mounts, exhaust, cutting and hammering, etc. Also heavier. And almost 2 more liters of displacement for only 20hp gains, VQ vs L33. Just sayin'.

$2500 give or take is pretty cheap for a VQ swap, or almost any JDM swap for that matter. That usually just buys the engine.

I always figured more ppl didn't do VQ35 swaps is cos VQ35's are tricky to come by for cheap. OP already has one. And a driveshaft he can use to fab one for the swap. And an ECU.

Here's 2 VQ35 into S chassis builds. The 2nd one is into an S12. According to that one, there are easier, and cheaper, ways than megasquirt. Like ways to use the oem ecu.

That being said, it is a pretty intensive swap compared to something like an SR or an RB from what I've seen. Read up on it, and see if it seems like something you'd be willing to tackle, I guess. As has been mentioned, its your car, you get to decide what you do with it.

Also remember the VQ35 can be supercharged :naughty:
