But take this as a lesson learned and realize that there are some people who really want your business as much as they want your money as opposed to people who want your money, but could care less about good business ethics. Is this guy 'Ronald" like the owner or something. Employees who render poor and attentive customer service usually lose their jobs or get reprimanded for making customers not want to do business with their company again. I hope your motor works out okay and lord forbid if it's knocking or something! That's why if I were you, I would quickly install to see if you don't have a crappy engine as well as busted oil pan.

Well, I guess a lot of people saying good things about a company isn't good enough anymore. I think I'll just buy my parts from enjuku, heavy throttle, phase2, and pdm as much as possible. They actually deserve a lot of business.

Yes, Ronald is the owner. I'm tearing the engine down for basically a full rebuild anyways (bearings, gaskets, seals, maybe rings, etc.). I started on it tonight, got the a/c compressor, p/s pump, exhaust manifold, belts, fan, etc off so far. It appears to be in relatively good shape so far, aside from the lines on the a/c compressor being hacked off and bent over, the clutch gone, the oil pan bent, the starter missing a bolt and bent out, and being completely covered in oil and grime.

My friend keeps telling me I need to take it to a machine shop to have it "rehoned", regardless of how the motor looks inside. Is there any truth in that?

a friend of mine ordered a couple thousand dollars of parts from heavy throttle and an sr motorset and it came with the ignitor smashed and he emailed them about it and they said would send one right out- for 250 bucks!this for someone who just ordered the motorset I could see, but for someone who obviously put a lot of money into their pockets seems like a bit of a bust...

Pulling off the head and stuff only gives the advantage to the person who sold you the more because one you've opened up that motor, you warranty is no more. Clutch missing? You got a crappy deal.Quote »a friend of mine ordered a couple thousand dollars of parts from heavy throttle and an sr motorset and it came with the ignitor smashed and he emailed them about it and they said would send one right out- for 250 bucks![/quote] For some businesses it's not about principle, but that almighty dollar.

well, I can't imagine putting the motor in with the current headgasket, so I have to pull the head to change that anyways. I have all the bearings and such, planning on changing them anyways. How about rings? The same guy that mentioned rehoning the block also says I'll need to replace the rings, no matter what condition they're in. I think I should stop listening to this guy... I'd rather void my warranty by taking the motor apart, than put the motor in and find out it's bad. Then I'll be stuck with a daily driver with a bad motor. Finding problems on the engine stand is a lot cheaper than finding them in the engine bay...that's my logic.

what kinda place says once you take the head off the warranty is null? I think a reputable place with nothing to hide would let you take the headoff before you accept the engine...

I just took off the flywheel and that metal plate that goes between the transmission and the motor. Well, some jackass at venus unbolted the top bolt on the starter, and left the bottom in, then set it on part of the starter while it was hanging down. This twisted and split the metal plate the starter bolts to. There's a split about 1 1/2" long right next to where the starter mounts. I dunno if I should send it back or just weld it up myself.

edit: oops....this is xyster, posted from a friend's house where he was still logged in

I've purchased over 20 different motors and 19 of them were excellent including my 4 CA18DET's, but one Mazda 626 V^ motor was a bugger in the fact that the lifters would not charge. My sister drove on that engine for 11 months before I decided to take it out and got a free replacement. I'd brought him the car after installing the motor to let him listen to it and he told me to take it out and come get another when i'm ready and this is all because I didn't bother to take loose the valve cover bolts which had his sealing marks on it.

I'd think the first thing most people would do after receiving an engine of unknown history would be take the head off and look it over... boost boy, who is this friend anyway? Im looking for a reputable CA seller...
